You can set the time of day instead of Random. Once you set it, unless you change it back, it remembers that choice.
I do agree Random tends to put aircraft in positions they shouldn't be in like a Fw 190A in the dead of night attacking 4 infantry units.
That was the point, it makes random too risky to use, especially given the loading times. Hence the desire for more options as suggested above.
-
By default the QAG is set to random time, which adds variety but I think it would be nice to have a day or night option as well. My first mission after taking ages to load I was plunged into darkness for a ground attack in a Mosquito which really didn’t work. So to avoid a night mission you have to specify a time.

This mode has fewer opportunities than the previous one, please restore the possibility of choosing the take-off point for all planes and also the possibility of flying alone without a wingman.
It is also slower to prepare the mission having to reload in several cases.
I believe setting wingman to 1 means you fly alone although not that obvious. The first mission I generated the wingman crashed every time on startup, positioned too close to a hill, so I ended up lane anyway!
I tried it again today and even not changing maps, the regeneration for changing targets took ages, so it isn’t just changing maps that makes it slow.

I have regularly played DCS for years and have dabbled with the ME to the extent I am pretty comfortable making basic missions but largely to fill the gaps of available Instant Action quick missions. For example when a new map doesn't have any instant actions missions for an aircraft or changing the available aircraft in an instant action mission.
Maybe some might see it as a being a bit soft but I also use the ME to lessen the difficulty or to add aircraft I can fly as clients so if I get shot down I can select another slot to continue the mission. Hardly Top Gun stuff but it is how I enjoy DCS.
So the QAG is of interest to me as a means of adding significantly to the instant action kind of stuff. In this respect it is impossible not to compare with the quick mission and advanced quick mission in another well know combat simulator which IMHO works very well for that quick fix, which frankly is mostly what I end up doing.
My initial thoughts are that as mentioned it should have every possible asset available regardless of map or mission type. I also feel it needs to be be snappy and only start a delayed loading when starting the mission. I am sure that is easier said than done but the visual representation of the map in the QAG interface doesn't seem to need to have the level of detail we fly in so I would expect (wish) it to load much faster.
I would also prefer not to have just a Save and Fly button but a Save option so I can make a bunch of missions with different aircraft/mission types with a given map rather than have to load it again each time.
I would also like to have the option of setting the player aircraft and wingmen as clients so I can choose which aircraft and loadouts I wish to fly for my saved mission plus the aforementioned ability to jump into another aircraft to complete the mission should I get shot down or run out of ammo (heresy that it might seem for some DCS veterans!)
Just some thoughts, hopefully this will evolve to add a useful option to supplement the provided instant action missions and the full mission editor.

so i am seeing similar to this in my AMD 9800x3d, what i am not seeing is a massive temperature increase as described by other users
I have not even looked at temps but my 5800x3d is running more cores at 100% whilst anecdotally it feels like it is taking longer (which is why I looked)

While there is some optimizing to be done, you can expect longer load times depending on what you are changing. For example, if you change the map, especially to one of the newer, more demanding maps, the load time can be longer.
I think part of the issue is the QAG loads the last map at startup, so if you don’t want the same map as last time it takes a while to get to the point where you can change it. The old quick mission and mission editor you get to choose the map before it starts loading stuff.
Also in VR the loading bars don’t work so there is no update on progress. The bars work fine in 2D.

It may not be stuck. I just watched the QAG take 14 minutes to load a 10 unit mission on the Marianas Map. You might try it again and just let it sit for 10 - 20 minutes to see if it eventually loads. As for this new feature, it's garbage at this point. Anyone who's ever used the ME or the "create fast mission" generator will find this new feature frustrating and absurdly limited at best...
I agree, the loading times seem incredibly slow. Whilst not the very latest and greatest I have an NVMe drive stuck at 100% for ages whilst it loads. I even benchmarked the drive in case there was something wrong with it and it is at the top end of the benchmarks. I have another NVMe drive for the OS, DCS is the only thing on the one that gets busy.
As a quick action generator unfortunately it seems anything but in its current form.

Have you checked the axis mappings for the CE, I can’t recall if they are have separate controls?

OK, so I have tried the suggestions made above. The problem still remains that often ( not always) no matter which button I press etc, it will take a few seconds at least for teh mouse cursor to appear.
I would like to understand why this is and why the cursor dissappears in the first place. Is the time out editable anywhere? I would be very happy for it to never dissappear.....
Personally I don’t wish to have a mouse pointer visible all the time as it reduces immersion of VR. Then again I find it pops up instantly when I press a mouse button mapped to my HOTAS, or the mouse centre function again mapped to my HOTAS using Joy2Key.
I don’t actually use a mouse at all when flying in VR, it doesn’t feel quite right to me, so I have mapped buttons and move my head to the switch etc. I want to click on. Again using Joy2Key mouse movement can be added to buttons or axis to move the mouse for those difficult to get to items where head movement alone is a bit restricted.

I use JoyToKey software. This can centre the mouse and also apply offsets to the mouse cursor position when it is locked to head movements.
I do the same

I recall an issue with different control behaviour between missions in the Spitfire which was due to one mission being the clipped wing version and the other the normal wing. Both have their own folders for control settings. Could it be the missions use the different models? If so I will try to recall the solution.

Sorry to be a pain. It looks like I don't have quite enough space on the D drive for the terrain folder. If I leave the game engine on the C drive and mklink to the terrain folder on my external E hard drive (which has lots of storage), will that impact performance?
I tried having a couple of terrains on an HDD with mklinks and the performance hit is very noticeable, the disk access is on 100% when loading for ages. Plus it hits 100% and causes stutters in flight.

I use symbolic links infrequently and have to look up the syntax every time!
I found this utility made things much easier

I just thought I would add how I used my TM Warthog stick with the Mosquito & Spitfire.
I used the Paddle switch as a modifier together with the Y axis with a deadzone of over 50% so just the latter half of the stick applied the brakes as you pull it towards you.
This allows you to switch between pitch and wheelbrakes just by pulling the paddle switch and analog control of the wheel brakes.
Easy for taxiing and just needs some timing when landing to enable the brakes once you no longer need pitch.

Do you guys have this error for all guides in Firefox or just some specific ones?
All guides. I have tried it on 2 PCs with the same issue.

Hrm, yeah, same, seems to be something to do with the spaces in the PDF title. If I copy the URL from Edge back to Firefox it works fine again. Love a little URI encoding bug!
I get the following message trying to download in Firefox, even if I paste the URL from Edge:

Hi,
does chucksguides.com have a problem currently? Or is it something on my side? I can only see the tabel of content on the left side but not the actual pages. Downloading the pdf also doesn't work...
Thanks! NobiWan
On my PC it doesn't work with Firefox but does with Edge

I have the mouse left & right clicks and mouse wheel up/down mapped to a hotas 4 way. To get the mouse to immediately appear I just click one of the mouse commands, I normally use a wheel up or down to avoid inadvertently clicking on a switch.

With "use mouse" ticked, the cursor disappears after a short period of mouse inactivity. Any mouse movement or click brings it back. With it unticked it remains on as far as I recall.

A few thoughts:
Jostick Gremlin would work but you would still need to reassign the controls to the 40+ aircraft to the vjoy device.
If the bindings are the same (axis and button numbers) you could create a batch file to rename the existing controller ID to the new one and run this in each aircraft input folder.
Best option (IMHO) is to bite the bullet and install Joystick profiler https://github.com/Holdi601/JoystickProfiler set up all your controls using this and then you can change individual controls for all aircraft in one click. You can also exchange devices using this utility. It will involve some work to set up but then you are future proofed for changing devices or which buttons do common tasks.

While I agree with the OP I took had a control mapping wish. That would be an axis for landing gear levers on as many aircraft as possible. I recently found my old saitek throttle and trim wheel. I thought they'd be great for WWII planes so I added them to my setup. I figured I could at least assign one axis for landing gear levers on all my planes. Yet only the P-47 has such an axis. I know it's a bit of a selfish ask but If love to see it on other aircraft.
Going a bit OT but third party utilities like joy2key & Joystick Gremlin can convert axis movements to keystrokes or button presses so you can use analog levers to operate landing gear, flaps etc. on modules that don't have axis support.
The problem with control mapping is to make it both comprehensive for those building cockpits and simple. In my experience owning a number of modules is that Joystick Profiler is brilliant although it does take a bit of initial setup which could prove daunting. Once comfortable with it then it handles all those issue like having common controls across modules and changing devices superbly. https://github.com/Holdi601/JoystickProfiler

Did you find any confirmation about Ryzen 5000 getting better performance too? Everywhere I looked they said that about 7000 and 9000 only
This article states it applies to Zen3,4&5 architecture https://www.techpowerup.com/326010/amd-ryzen-branch-prediction-optimizations-now-available-to-windows-11-23h2
Plus a number report gains on Reddit with 5000 series testing.

You can find it under optional updates.
Thanks for the info, very valuable

24H2 is out already?
I believe you can opt in to get early updates.
My quandary is I use Windows 10 for my gaming PC with a Reverb G1 but have a Ryzen CPU that 24H2 Win 11 is reporting to improve gaming performance by up to 10%
Let's make DCS more beginner-friendly.

It took me a while of searching for the gun trigger and safety mappings to discover the free Mustang didn't have guns! So I tried the SU25 to discover it was a slug. That is my recollection of DCS for the first time.
Personally I think the free stuff should have guns and a faster jet to give a greater taster.
DCS is many things to many people and trying to push people through any kind of training program or career route could prove detrimental. Flying isn't that hard, doing it properly and by real world procedures is a different matter. DCS offers the possibility for non pilots to fly a range of pretty exotic aircraft in combat scenarios or just for the fun of flying. You can choose whether you wish to fly it as close to how real military pilots do or go a bit rogue. Either way doing it with a flight model and systems that are as realistic as possible is somehow more fun for me than other supposedly more accessible titles.
I would like to see more ED supplied quick (and relatively easy) missions and a bit more resource to keep them updated with radio settings tuned for correct ATC and so on. Once the user has the bug, finding their way around user downloadable files, advanced control settings and even the mission editor really don't seem that onerous.
Unless ED decide they want to become the iRacing of the flight combat sim world with matchmaking and behaviour control then providing the tools for the multiplayer community to manage their own servers and communications seems a prudent choice. It will IMHO always be a small but enthusiast subset of a niche genre.
