  1. Stock atm, and an obvious area to boost for more performance. I havent overclocked because of the stock aio. It was an iBuypower pre-build I have been upgrading. I dont trust the stock aio to sufficiently cool the chip to anything much over 4.2 or so. I have been avoiding a new cooler. I figured if I am lifting the aio and reseating a better cooler, I may as well bump up to a better mobo and cpu. Still, I could get by biting the bullet and tossing on a new cooler to crank closer to 5ghz. Seems most are in the 4.7 to 5ghz range, I believe. Would choose the Deepcool Assassin III, Noctua NH-14S or something similar. I know liquid cools better, but I just dont wanna mess with it. *After a look, seems like the 10,850 would be about a 9 to 10% boost single core and the 10,900 would be around 12%. Pricey chip atm, though.
  2. Thanks for the candid answer. It is my inclination thus far to wait. I really feel like Nvidia is baiting customers with this 3000 series release but I wont go into that. Wil be interesting to see how Big Navi performs. So, wirh the graphics card consideration to the side, would I benefit much jumping up to a 10700k or 10850? Something in that range. I'm wondering if the CPU bump would be worth it.
  3. Hry, guys. I'm a noob when it comes to posting but I have scowered the threads for several years. I wanted to get your input/advice on possible upgrades. Bear in mind, I am sensible and understand graphic settings have a lot to do with how DCS performs, but I am trying to get more oomph and smoothness out of DCS. I use the Reverb, but have the G2 on pre-order. I mainly play only DCS, but now MSFS 2020 a d soon Star Wars Squadrons. I currently have an i8700k, Asrock Pro4 mobo, 32gb patriot viper ram, low end aio cooler, rtx 2080 (non super) and Samsung Pro 970. I have been looking at picking up a 3090 but Im hesitant that the $800 bump from the 3080 will be marginal. I could get a 10700k and Aorus mobo for that $800 spread. Trouble is the vram. Only has 10gb and I was really hoping for 16gb on the 30i0. Rumors say we are poasibly getting a 20gb 3080 but Id be surprised to see it priced under $1000. I wouldnt put it past Nvidia to price it closer to $1200. Anyhoo, Im open to advice. Pilots here have a lot of experience and I respect that. While I can spend the money, I want to make sure Im getting my money's worth and also not wasting it in an area where my pc might already perform fairly well. I should also mention spotting and maintaining visual is a problem for me that I hope the g2 will clear up a bit. VR in DCS can get pretty hazy.
  4. I would check ShopBLT and see if you qualify for an RMA. I cant recall exactly what their policy is, but I think I read that they will replace defective merchandise but you need an RMA to do it. Ah screw it, I just copied from their site. This isnt all of it. "IMPORTANT: You cannot return any item without an RMA number and the manufacturer's packaging. Do NOT return items to the originating warehouse. You MUST obtain an RMA number first. NO EXCEPTIONS. Defective and factory sealed items can be returned for replacement, store credit, or refund within 30 days of the purchase date. "Defective" means an item is non-functioning, incompatible with your operating system, or doesn't function as described or advised by the manufacturer. "Factory Sealed" means an item is in 100% resalable condition, with all manufacturer's seals intact. "Purchase Date" is the day we shipped your order, noted on your receipt. You must obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number from us to process any return or replacement, within 30 days of the purchase date. You MUST obtain an RMA number online at ShopBLT.com, using the Returns / Exchanges link. RMA numbers are NOT issued by telephone. You cannot return, replace, claim a lost shipment, or request an RMA number 31 days or more after the purchase date. RMA requests submitted on or after 5:00 PM eastern time are treated as submitted on the following business day." I would so try to RMA it with a new one. You may qualify, and who knows, ShopBLT might replace it with a newer one made week 31 or more. Cant hurt to find out.
  5. Ok. So I learned I had stuck pixels, not dead pixels. Sorry, I misunderstood what I was looking at. Happy to report they cleared using the RBG videos you can find on You Tube. After a reboot, I confirmed both screens are working with no stuck pixels. Learn something new every day, as they say.
  6. Lucky me. Started up my Reverb and have two dead pixels in the right lcd. Not happy right now.
  7. I am also noticing the "haze." I lifted off with an F-18 and once I got to 20,000' everything looked washed out. First instance of the washed out colors that I've seen. I also played The Forest for a short time, and saw the same. Not sure if there is a settling that could be easily adjusted to increase saturation slightly. In any case, the haze was a let down. I may have to try that mod out to reduce it. It is distracting.
  8. For the record, my ShopBLT Reverb Pro ordered around the 10th of August says it is a Rev A of week 25. I've only used it for maybe an hour, so certainly not long enough to really judge. I hope HP went back through their stock and fixed the older units cause it looks like I got one. I read back through the last 6 pages to catch up. Has Voodoo confirmed at all what the Rev A is? I know a lot of people have a Gen 1 without any issues, but I'm trying to figure out if I need to worry about the $650 purchase I just made. Mine does have a clip, though, so I'm hoping they made sure their remaining Gen 1's were OK.
  9. I appreciate it, but I didnt have any of that going on. I think I had a corrupted file. I tried every trick I know, but ultimately used a media tool to re-install. I'm good to go now. Everything is working perfectly. So my Reverb came from ShopBLT, as I mentioned previously. Mine has the clip, but no idea if it is or is not a v1.2, or whatever some might dub em. I will keep my thoughts short. One stop thought: I'm happy with it. Details: The sharpness isnt as good as I expected. Screen door is not gone, however, it is barely perceived. You literally have to focus on it to see it. In my humble opinion, the sweet spot is about as big as any other HMD, and as others have said, the sharpness drops off quickly. FOV reminds me of CV1, or is roughly comparable. Smoothness is increased over my SO+, and that is instantly noticeable with high settings, 190% SS in Steam and 1.5 PD. The heat output is also comparable with my SO+. It gets warm, not hot. Now, it does get "stuffy." The unit is snug, but comfy, and it makes your face feel the warmth, and stuffy is the best description for sure. Lastly, headphones are garbage. They're on par with CV1, or SO+, but the left ear on mine cuts in and out, and that's even after tightening the screw. Again, I'm happy with it for sure. DCS looks fantastic in it. Some pains to get it up and running, but a little effort goes a long way. If I had to describe it in one sentence, I'd say imagine an upgraded SO+, that is lighter, more comfortable, sharper and runs more smoothly. It isnt gen 2 for sure, but I think it's worth upgrading.
  10. I own a Samsung Odyssey +, and can say the Reverb felt amazing comfort wise. Instantly reminded me of wearing CV1. Light, comfortable and snug to the face without pinching. Very pleased in that regard.
  11. Unfortunately, I'm nowhere near that step yet. Windows wont update to 1903, so I'm trying to repair it now. WMR wouldn't even install. It keeps stopping and says it cannot install. I'm hoping I can get 1903 installed without having to slick my OS ssd. I'm so tempted to order the components I've been putting off because I've been saving for the Reverb, among other things. Im kicking myself for buying an iBuypower instead of building my own like I used to. Ateast with fresh, higher quality components I stand a better chance at success. Looks like the majority of my night will be getting Windows updated and error free. In other news, the Star Tech usb card I ordered wasnt seated fully in the PCIe slot, so at least Windows recognized it once I noticed it. Not sure how I let that get by me. I blame old age. Downside is Windows auto installed drivers, and I'm pretty sure to push 900ma through the card via a SATA power cable is to use the manufacturer's drivers. They wont install because of the Windows drivers and when I uninstall those the manufacturer's .exe driver installation wont detect the card. Guys, grab some popcorn and come on over, cause this shit is so comical I gotta share the laughs.
  12. Well, my Reverb arrived from ShopBLT. It included the clip, but def says V1000, not V1000.2 I've tried running through setup, and the lenses won't power up. I checked and Windows 10 wants to update, but stops halfway through and won't finish. As a result, WMR won't install either. Fun. To top it off, Windows won't recognize the USB PCIe card I bought, so I cannot be sure my mobo is sending enough power to the HMD. I'm going to have to pick it apart piece by piece, and figure out what's the problem. This is steering me toward a direction I've been trying to avoid, which is upgrading my mobo and doing a clean install of Windows. I really don't want to go through all that, cause if I'm getting a new mobo, I'm going to upgrade my case and cooling fan, too. That's pushing $400 - $500 after already sinking close to $650 for the unit. Geesh...
  13. Gah. I'm waiting on an update here, too. Just want to know if they can ID if we are getting the v1.1 or whatever. Hopefully Voodoo can relay info soon. My unit from BLT doesnt arrive until Thursday. I'm installing a dedicated 3.0 USB 10gbs w/ 900ma power a single usb port. I will also be downloading new Nvidia drivers as well. Crossing my fingers BLT's stock has the clip and HP can confirm that those are a v1.1 unit.
  14. Speaking of the Reverb, I just checked and it is available on the HP website, due to ship 08/21/2019, if anyone is looking to buy direct from them.
  15. I've been following the Acer Ojo Conceptd for a while, and it really hasn't had notified news since late April/early May. It was sold commercially, but there has been zero mention (to the best of my knowledge) that it would be sold as a consumer product. Acer has been silent about it for months. There is no guarantee the new Ojo HMD will even be released to us. I wanted it waaaaay more than the Reverb, but at the end of the day, is it better to wait and not enjoy the time you have, or jump on the Reverb and have the same clarity now (barring IPD adjustments)? For me, it was Reverb. It has a 1 year warranty to cover mishaps. Pretty much the same risk as any electronic device. I'm willing to dive in and pay my dues so I can fly now and enjoy DCS at the best quality resolution a VR can provide.
  16. Ive been chasing the dried worm. **Update. ShopBLT got back to me and said they're processing my order. Didnt mention whether it was instock (website listing is sold out and on a pre-order basis), but it was inferred based on the verbiage of their reply. Looking forward to this one! **2nd update. ShopBLT came through. They did, in fact, reserve a Reverb with my purchase order and they're shipping it today. Way to go. Whew. Finally managed to snag one.
  17. Pardon if it has been mentioned previously, but has anyone had success with the Reverb using an external powered usb hub? I've been reading the thread over these past few weeks but I cant recall any mention of it. I know I tried hooking my SO+ to the MB 3.0 using a 6' extender and it did not like it. Plugged it directly and sure enough it worked. Makes sense people mentioning direct power to the HMD fixes the flickering and such. I'm still thinking about getting a PCIe 3.0 USB port + USB C to run the HMD. Sound logic there, guys. It's nice that we have a lot of people working hard to prove the Reverb isnt just functional, but a great hardware addition to DCS to bring it one step closer to the real thing.
  18. Well, now I'm worried I'm not going to get one from ShopBLT. I sent them an email asking if the units they received were v2 (if you please) or not. A few hours later, I decided to jump in and take the chance and purchased one. Yesterday morning, someone from Sales at ShopBLT received my email and advised they reached out to production to confirm if this is new or old stock from HP. He asked if I wanted my order processed or if I wanted to wait on an answer. Unfortunately, I was at work and couldnt reply right away. When I did, I asked how long a reply from production might take, but didnt ask to hold my order. I didnt hear back after a few hours so I emailed again and asked they process the order, just to be on the safe side. Long story short, they put my order on hold without me actually asking it be held. I just wonder whether or not they physically set aside 1 unit in their inventory to fill my order. Reason being is now they only have 4 units left, which most certainly will be gone by Monday. They didnt charge my card, but if they didnt set one aside, I may be shit out of luck for a few more weeks. I tip my hat to ShopBLT for the quick response. I just wish they hadn't held it without me actually asking it be held. All I can do is wait until tomorrow for a reply, and hope they put one aside for me. Many warehouse operations will do that. They keep track of how many units of an item they have in stock, but will only take orders for the same amount, only processing the transaction when the unit ships. Here's hoping that's how it pans out.
  19. Thank you! Just placed my order. Looks like they're stock is in Texas. Hoping it will come Wed or Thurs.
  20. Did it have the clip with it for the connector?? I'm so ready to pull the trigger on this one.
  21. When did you buy yours? I keep wondering if BLTShop is getting v2 or more v1...this is a shot in the dark and it sucks. You shouldn't have to play Russian Roulette with these hmd's.
  22. I just talked to an HP Chat rep, and while they couldn't say specifically when the Reverb would restock, they did say they're confident it will be units without the issues experienced initially. They said those issues have been corrected or fixed. So, guess it is a matter of waiting for HP to restock. BLTShop had a tentative ETA set for their next restock as yesterday. Shows overdue now. I've been hoping HP would restock on or about the same date. HP rep said to keep checking the HP site daily for new stock.
  23. I'm fairly confident that when the next batch comes out at HP it will be the refreshed model. With such a tumultuous launch, its wise if they take their time to fix it and release only when they have a decent number of new units to ship. If they reissue v1, they would only be making it worse.
  24. I keep checking the USA site and, so far, no dice. I don't trust ordering it from anyone else. Kinda weird that the CA site would say in-stock and ship in one to two weeks. Maybe their production isn't readily available yet. What a botched launch.
  25. How can we distinguish what a "newer" headset is / looks like. How do we know if a retailer is selling a new or old version? And only parts? So if it starts crapping out we are stuck with paying shipping and labor for them to fix a defective item? Wow. This is kind of what I meant. Some have good units and some dont. Doesnt give a consumer much confidence to purchase a product when support for it looks like this is starting to. From 3 year warranty to a 1 year that covers "parts."
