  1. Latest version still quite early in design.... https://www.scoobynet.com/g/picture/17614336
  2. Hi guys, So after much soul searching I've decided to get myself a motion platform from DofReality. I'll be customising the top of it, and chief amongst my concerns is weight. I'm unfortunately more of a Troll than a human in build. Doesn't help... So, As i fly many different modules and other sims too, i need something that is flexible and able to adjust. I use VR so it's about positioning stuff rather than looks. However, first things first. Seat. The DofReality comes without one. So. My plan is to build it in aluminium sheet, with base and back ribbed and skinned very much like aero structures. The seat cushions will be swapable and the sides will dress either with covers or large plates to give a proper ejection seat look. There will be fore/aft adjustment, but height and angle is via upper and lower bracket mounting. I'll start with standard DofR frames and eventually construct a ring to house yoke, panel and adjustable rudder base. Firstly your thoughts on stupidity levels. i'm making it from 1.5 mm alloy sheet water jet cut and pop riveted. Zinc Chromatic painted then sprayed in olive or dark grey. Headrest swaps for Parachute box. Ejection handle and straps. It's the H6 I'm getting so 6 axis motion. I've always wanted one, I have the Brunner Yoke and Pedals, and Warthog HOTAS. A selection of Saitek switches and Couger MFDs. Also a TQ6 for civvy sims. If the seat comes out nice, it's completely suitable for a DWG file or flat pack as well as replicating easily. A kind of ACES II homage rather than an accurate replica. I have tools and an air riveter...
  3. Zooming is cheating- unless you do it through the LITENING pod and on a MFD? :-)
  4. Be still my heart! Wow!
  5. Agreed. With F14s and F/A18C/d you really need vintage surroundings.
  6. I'm fixing my Rift problem with a set of prescription lens inserts....
  7. We used to have to taxi over those cables when operating domestic Turkish flights. Often, some of the smaller airports, particularly in the South East were dual Military/Civilian ones. You either had to subract 300m from start end or stop end for performance, which was rarely an issue as most runways there were 3000m. What was fun was taxiing my 737 along and very carefully parking it onto the barrier cable to use as a sort of little chock. You had to be super careful not to run over them at any speed because they'd bounce up and hit the gear doors or fuselage. I believe several Turkish Airlines aircraft had sustained damage in years before. Anyway, normal operation is to raise thrust to 40% N1 to stabilise thrust before allowing the autothrottle to set power with the TO/GA switch. You did this as a rolling take off, but if you were parked against the barrier cable, you just sat there until the thrust came right up and you jumped over it. Closest to fun you could get in a lightly loaded -700 with maybe a touch too much power selected...ahem.
  8. Thanks. Next time I get on I’ll try to see if that sorts anything.
  9. I’m trying the Viper and not using VR at present.
  10. Anyone else had an issue where mouse appears on screen but nothing is clickable? When I come out of game to start task manager, a click in the window and return to game it works properly. Then again when I go to fly a mission, the mouse has stopped working? Same fix works each time. This is on a fully updated system, Logitech wireless mouse on my high spec laptop. At a loss to figure it out.
  11. I’ve been looking at a 6dof motion sim. There’s a good one that is pretty good value, it’s only problem is it uses worm gear drive so can be shaky for slow small movement and needs a damper adding. I’m coming along with my sim rig design so incorporating this means starting over, but it certainly looks worth it. The software is very competent too and allows adjustments. I’ll have to prioritise weight loss ( me as well as the metal bits) to get it to work. I’ll know in about a year at this rate!
  12. SO happy to read this. The Bloody Air Force Brass need a kick up the chuff to realise how vital the Warthog is to Ground troop morale and close in support. It can never be dismissed. Well done Congress for staying with the Hog.
  13. Biggest problem with the really high end laptops is the GPU is often soldered into the heat sink as is the CPU slot. Heat management as we know is the issue. I have a Scan.co.uk made 3XS 17.3 Carbon extreme laptop. 4K screen to output to large 4K monitors, 8700 CPU and 1080 GPU. Love it and outstanding gaming rig, but the power block is the size of a real house brick and the machine weighs 4.5kg!!! Worst bit is to upgrade to 2080 GPU means replacing the chassis as it’s hard wired in. Still considering it as I can swap everything else over and sell it on. I didn’t know this when I bought it soca little annoyed! Amazing with the Rift S though.
