  1. But it’s not giving you range to target, it’s giving you range to a point on ground behind the target. Try pointing at a building, designating, and then flying over the building. You’ll realize the pod is looking through the building to the ground behind it. And if you drop a JDAM that’s where you’ll hit. Watch this video for how it works in the Warthog:
  2. With all of the recent updates to the Hornet targeting pod, and with Wags mentioning laser range in one of his recent videos, I thought I would give this a bump. Anyone know if it’s possible to use the laser to measure range with the Hornet targeting pod yet? Thanks!
  3. Just flew with the changes above and it worked fine. Factories / warehouses that appeared at less than half a mile before are now visible at the extent if my visual range. Haven't tried with a targeting pod, yet. Attaching my version of graphics.lua for reference... graphics.lua
  4. I figured out a fix that seems to work for me. Have only checked this using an external view, but will take a flight later to ensure it works from the cockpit and that it doesn't kill frame rates (Steam, HP Reverb). Changed a couple of lines in ~\<DCS>\Config\graphics.lua: Increased Camera --> Extreme --> lodMult from 1.0 to 100.0. Initially changed it to 10 and it got better, 100 was better still. For good measure, I also made the same change to CameraMirrors --> Extreme --> lodMult. Increased Terrain --> distancFactor --> Extreme from 1.5 to 2.4 based on an earlier post. This was the first change I made and did not seem to improve matters, but I didn't bother to put it back. Note that I have my "Visibility Distance" set to Extreme...if you use a different setting, I think you'll need to change the relevant sections in the graphics.lua (e.g. Camera --> <your_distance_setting> --> lodMult. Good luck, everybody...
  5. Same thing here. Building a mission with factories and warehouses as the primary, and can't see them until I'm right on top of them. When I don't hit the ground I wind up getting tagged by a MANPAD! Steam version, so I don't have the updater. But I've run the "Verify Integrity of Game Files" check a few times to fix issues with VAICOM, and the draw distance has not changed. View distance set to Extreme. Playing in VR, but distances still short when running on the desktop.
  6. Thanks to everyone here for all the comments! Particularly Japo for posting the files. I had the 10% bug, but I was finally able to piece together what seems to work for me. I run the Steam version that updated to 2.5.6 yesterday. Never had to do this before, but on the VAICOM config screen I had to: 1) Check "Use custom DCS path" and point it to my Steam install 2) Check "ob" Doing a little testing I found that unchecking EITHER option resulted in the "bad" version of gameMessages.lua and the 10% hang. But with both options specified, it left gameMessages.lua alone and the game loads fine. :dunno: Now to figure out which VR shaders I can (should?) actually use with the update!
  7. Good to know, thanks. For the moment I'll continue trying to guess how my slant angle will impact location, and estimate where the building intersects the ground...
  8. Is it currently possible to use the laser to measure distance and refine a target position with the targeting pod in the Hornet? You have to do this in the Warthog if you want to drop a JDAM on top of a building. If you don't, the pod will designate the spot on the ground it is pointed at behind the building. I assume it's coming since it is labeled as Target Designator/Ranger, but was wondering if it's possible now, and if so, how? Thanks!
