Heaters will have 'launch without lock' capability removed - though the MICA IR should keep it.
So, if you lock at 20miles with an ET and fire it will still work ... I thought we'd come to the conclusion it didn't have mid-course update? So how does that work?
I thought IRs could be fired without a lock - and if you happended to be in the way, tough ... or is this just a quick fix to get around the ET bug? Surely we need to cripple is FOV - I thought that was why it wasn't used this way in RL.

I will really love a land sim based in Lock On engine
We haven't got enough CPU power to run the level of detail required for a land sim plus LOs A2A and A2G environment.
Have a look at SteelBeast Pro ... a fanastic sim, good AI, great terrain engine (even got grass!) and great support from the devs too!

I've just watched your track ... very interesting. Has anyone else notice the apparent problems with AMRAAM and 9M fuses?
You have at least 3 missiles fly past you, all very close, certainly within the length of a 27, and not go off!!!! I know the US has historical problems making fuses ... but really!
Are all fuses modelled the same? Or are there differences for each missile?
That ET is certainly an uber missile ... launched BVR and starts tracking at over 4Ks ... and boom! Any news if this will be neutered in BS?

Dont be sad, after al the 90's stuff right now is pretty much inferior to the 80's stuff in LOMAC. ;)
True enough - definately a classic decade ... now its all systems!
Most modern stuff is way too complex to model the cockpit systems accurately! As well as being super-secret!

I guess it's not the sparrow I'm questioning. It's the F-15's radar and ability to keep a lock. For example, I'm facing the enemy and have lock, I turn maybe 30-40 degrees, anything beyond I lose lock. In an Su-27, seems like I can turn almost 80 degrees and still maintain lock.
Maybe I'm missing something.
Something just occured to me ... how are you measuring that 30-40degrees? By the scope or by an external view? If its the scope, remember its a B-scan which distorts everything!

That had always been my understanding but I guess I stand corrected. Thanks.

It would seem much more sensible to pick a time point and stick to it ... more unclassified data available and you don't end up with the silly situation of modelling an engagement where one a/c has a an early 1980s missile v an opponenent with a late 1990s missile ...
But, hey ... that discussion was lost ages ago :(

GGT, Thats what I'm saying ... by GW1, Sparrow was a good missile when used within parameters.
-
No, Sparrow in the F-15 is one of the very few things that are actualy better than the real thing.
And what was it's kill ratio in GW1?
Do you think the AA-10 would be better in RL or worse?

All the best Pilot! You'll be back!
-
Use the flight stick ... push forward and the view in the mirror tilts up, pull back and the the view titls down ... ;)

here is mine...
plain and simple...
Class ... pure class :) Although I prefer black myself!

It would be good to have a selection of different burn effects ... different smoke colours/shapes/amounts ... All looks abit samey at the moment ...

I'm not interested in any more Russian aircraft or their variants. I would like to see some focus on western aircraft and improving those already in the sim as well as adding one or two.
I'm with you enigma ... I'd pay for AFM for all the current a/c, 6DOF cockpits + WAFM or perhaps some 80's planes where the info is available and accurate.
-
And one reason in RL for a jammer is to deny range info ... so how would this work?
-
I wonder if they really use windows on these aircraft - I kinda doubt it ... it isn't a real time OS, though I suppose MS wouldn't have any trouble at all fielding an RTOS division.

Too scary!

After a SAM launch ... Turn it on, turn 45degs away from SAM, wait 15secs and turn it off ... repeat as necessary!
-
Give me a better F-15 v Su-27 match anyday - full radar modes, cockpit ergonomics, JTIDS, decent AI, AFM, WAFM, better seeker modelling (ASM) etc... F-16 is jack of all trades, master of none! Been done, no thanks.
-
I'm sure the Russians have come a long way since the first 29s ...
-
Be great to see this modelled ...
"The Fulcrum doesn't have the crisp movements of an F-16," Sparrow continued. "You need to be an octopus in the MiG-29 to work the avionics. Those German pilots have it tough. Just to get a simple lock on and fire a missile may take a half dozen hands-off switches or so. We can do the same with a flick of the thumb while we are looking at the HUD. F-16 pilots also have a significant sight advantage. "
At the moment it's modelled the same!

What about the issue the way a/c go invisible at about 2-4miles as the level of detail changes from a black dot to a render aircraft (LOD). This distance is critical in dogfighting and to loose visibility at this point is just a pain.
Anyway this distance can be changed to say 1mile ... at which point the rendered image would be visible.

SA-3 S-125 Newa
SA-4 2К11 Krug
SA-5 S-200E Wega
Gepard
S-60
And NSW 12,7mm
Agreed ... more early Soviet SAMs.

here's mine.... hmm how do I get the image to show full size?

That is a GREAT picture ... oh to have effects like that in LO ... oh plus all the AFM, WAFM ... etc.
-
Ok ... so you have basic connectivity. Could you ISP have done something? I use BT in the UK and they always screw things up in the name of 'Improvements to customer service'!
-
Maybe a silly question, but can you ping the servers? Using PING on the command line.
Have you tried disabling all firewalls you have control over? WinXP and router?

Hmmm ... theres a great paper over on SimHQ written by a pilot who makes a good argument to the contrary ... Outside views are best for judging angles and rates of turn, positional advantage etc ...
The only problem is its banned on most servers .... so don't get used to it!
