Thanks guys, I tweaked the saturation setting, as you suggested. Now throttle full back = power at zero.

Trim is not a precise science in flight sims, you lack the tactile feedback from trimming via a wheel in a real-life a/c. I have it set directionally, i.e. elevator and aileron trim, to the trim hat on my stick, but given the importance of rudder trim for this flight model, maybe I should replace the aileron trim assignment with rudder trim, what do you think? Ans I don't think it's "cheating" to have the virtual flight control panel graphic switched on!

I'm beginning to nail the three-point landings but I'm using too much runway to get the Mustange slowed down; in fact, even with a nice, slow 90mph touchdown, I'm running off the end. I'm sure this is because, even with my HOTAS throttle fully retarded and the RPMs reduced to lowest possible, I'm still showing too high a power setting. Is there some sort of cutoff i should be activating, or do I need to fiddle with my control settings? This is what my throttle setting looks like at full idle; it does not seem that all power input is off. Is a dead zone or other such setting adjustment the solution to this?

Thanks Viper, very helpful.

Can anyone supply, or does anyone know a source for, the following flight management data/settings? I'm filling in the few numbers I've picked up from the tutorials so far: 1. Climbout: Manifold pressure: 46 Hg Engine speed: 27 RPM Airspeed: 170kts 2. Non-combat cruise: Manifold pressure: Engine speed: Airspeed: 3. Descent/final approach: Manifold pressure: Engine speed: Airspeed: Finally, what are the recommended mixture settings per altitude ASL? Thanks, gents.

Loving the stick-and-rudder flying, really wakes your feet up after years of jet sims. A couple of things would be useful to know. Some of them pertain to basic HOTAS management: - Is there a recommended elevator trim setting for takeoff? If so, what is it and is it possible to verify this setting by any means other than the position of the trim wheel? - Is there a key command to neutralise rudder trim only? - This is my first experience in a sim controlling power output with both throttle and RPM input. Do you prop-heads set RPM to a throttle button? I don't think I have a spare axis to map. Given the workload in trimming the airplane and setting mixture etc., on climbout it would be great to have a way to manage power settings without taking one's hands off the throttle and stick, especially as the RPM lever is often invisible behind the virtual throttle. - As above: Do you guys map mixture control to a HOTAS or is that considered unrealsitic and, if you have to take your hands off the controls IRL to throw a lever, that's how you do it in the sim? Thanks!

Thanks! One more quick question: All the key listings have modifiers; why is this? Are they not designed to function as a straight (unmodified) keypress?
-
I'm sorry if this is a crashingly obvious question but in that keyboard command list you kindly posted, Nate, why are the commands listed on the left in blue repeated three times? What is the modifier listing for? Are the quotation marks significant? I just need to know so I can map the simplest flight control functions (such as setting up the trim hat) into a CH profile and I'm not sure which command to input. Thank you!

My time-honored process of breaking in a new sim is to install and adapt a profile for my CH HOTAS first. In DCS sims I then use the native controls interface to add a rudder axis control for my Logitech pedals. Is anyone working on a CH profile? I'd be happy to beta test it! Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place but the "Controller Profiles and Problems" forum is under "Bugs and Problems" and I'm not suffering from either...yet.

Difficulties with refueling practice .miz: help appreciated
Bahger replied to Bahger's topic in User Created Missions General
Hey, great vid, Wildfire, eagerly bookmarked, "tanking for dummies", exactly what I need! It's a terrific reference. You know you could avoid messing things up by going to an exterior view if you record the track rather than the live mission? TIR works during track playback, something that delighted me from the very first days of LOMAC. That barrel roll around the KC-135 with a newly-full tank of gas would not have endeared you to your c/o. -

Heh, well, maybe, but I first heard this theory voiced by F-16 pilots themselves so it has some credibility. -

I gather that exposure to the radar positioned between the F-16 pilot's legs is suspected of being responsible for an unusually high incidence of testicular cancer among Viper drivers. I still assumed you'd pick up a tanker's vector, altitude, aspect and closure via AA radar and that would guide you to it until you were visual, when you'd switch it off, but I stand corrected. I assume there is no way to "hook" a tanker in the TAD in the A-10...? -

Right! That's the picture. Today's the day to stop chasing the boom! I'm surprised there aren't more hero videos of successful tanking on Youtube. I wonder what percentage of people who own the sim master it? -

Ain't that the truth! If you are not doing everything a second or two ahead of time, you are doing it too late. And the absence of radar to give closure rates and relative positions makes this a unique test of flying skill in the Hog. BTW, is there any way to set the tanker's direction of tuen (right or left pattern) in the ME? -

All good points, many thanks. I will experiment with curves in my stick axes (throttle too?) Although I won't customise my settings at the expense of full functionality in any other area of flight. You are quite right Tharos, this is by far the most exacting test of airmanship but it's a legitimate challenge, which is why I want to master it. I have little experience in MP close formation, which makes it tougher still. I know I can get there; it's a matter of forming exacly the right visual image of one a/c's relationship to the other in the sky and holding it there. I think a zoomed-out view will help. -

Thanks, guys. Be warrned AAR missions made pre-1.1.1.0 do not always play nice in the latest version; there are problems with the sim crashing when the tanker crew clears for contact. And the initial radio response from the tanker to rejoin is missing (but present in text if you have radio subtitles on). Wildfire, you might look at your tanker tracks, I found that the tanker flew too fast, as you point out, but also seemed not to fly long enough straight legs. I am slowly, slowly getting it. I am pretty advanced in every area of the sim but this one and I knew it would be a challenge. It's hard enough just being cleared for contact. Haven't caught the boom yet. It might take a week of practicing for half an hour a day. -

Many thanks, Wildfire much appreciated, rep inbound. Are these air-start missions or runway start? Playable only in MP server, right? -

Thanks a lot, Speed, much appreciated. -
I've been trying to put together a simple practice mission in which the player starts far enough away from the tanker that he has to use TACAN to find the tanker and then join to refuel. The fact that I have not yet learned air-to-air refueling makes this more complicated for me. I have had the following difficulties: - I do not get a response from the tanker after I call him on 150 AM, the freq I set him to in the ME. Is there some kind of distance limitation for tanker comms? - What is an appropriate airspeed to command the tanker to maintain at 18,000 ft? - What are the cues for a response from the tanker, i.e. is it required for the player to have performed certain actions, such as weapons SAFE settings, lights, fuel gate open, etc.? I am bafffled by my inability to get the KC to communicate. - Could someone confirm which general and advanced task/waypoint settings the tanker needs in order to perform its function? I might have got this wrong, too. Here is my very imperfect practice mission, with airspeeds that are way too fast. I'm determined to learn tanking by Xmas and would really appreciate assistance. Thanks, Aries. Did it help you?

Yup, this is precisely my problem, too. Tacview worked for me in a SP mission last night but in MP this morning it appeared to have recorded the mission but when I tried to play it back I got the above error message. Thoughts?

Problems with wheelbrakes: the Hog is running away from me
Bahger replied to Bahger's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Playing with my throttle settings/curvature in-game but meanwhile I notice that the W command for wheelbrakes is a toggle. Odd. -
I am fortunate to have built up a very large combat aviation library, too. I have a very enthusiastic recommendation for you: "Feet Wet" By Rear Admiral Paul T. Gillcrist. This is the best account of wartime fighter ops I have ever read. After flying off a carrier in the Gulf of Tonkin and with combat experience in almost every fourth-generation fighter/attack a/c, Adm. Gillcrist became one of the first test pilots for the F-16 at Edwards. I read a lot of military non-fiction and this book rises to the very top of the heap. Adm. Gillcrist lives in my neighborhood and I am honored to own a signed copy.

The Hog runs away from me when I taxi and I cannot get the wheelbrakes to work well enough to stop it properly on the runway on roll-out, even after a full boards-out slow approach. There is definitely something awry with my settings. I have a CH Pro throttle and stick plus G-27 racing pedals that I use as rudder pedals. There are no toe-brakes obviously and I've never been able to bind wheelbrakes to an axis so I simply use the B key. I have it mapped to a button but I don't want to over-stress my HOTAS with constant, hard pressure on a button. Either my throttle is idling too high, in which case can anyone advise re. whether a deadzone or any one of the in-sim Controls or CH Control Manager settings might be adjusted, or there is something I've missed in terms of getting the wheelbrakes to "bite". Or is it my technique: do they need to be constantly pumped? I've never had this issue pre-1.1.1.0 so I'd certainly appreciate guidance, as every landing is now a desperate race against time and distance.

Shootist: Order your #2 to attack armor if he's spotted some or you know it's in the vicinity. If he draws a bead on it, you'll see a blue targeting line connecting his a/c with his SPI in your TAD. With TAD as SOI, put your TAD cursor over that SPI and make it yours own with TMS up/short then long. Rainmaker, point well taken. This is a scramble mission, really. I'll give players a little more leeway next time.
