  1. I'm sure your right. It's a bit lacking in immersion though. It seems more like a lot of set piece battles rather than a campaign. Thanks for your comment.
  2. I'm on the second chapter of the Georgian Oil War and I seem to be stuck in a repeating loop. I am tasked to do two missions and these alternate between defending a forward line of friendly troops, that are threatened by a breakthrough of enemy tanks and air defence units, and a recon mission where I have to fly up the coast, go to TP3 and TP4 and knock out 'high value targets of opportunity'. I am puzzled as to what is going on here? I have, as far as I can tell, just completed the first of these by knocking out the breakthrough tanks (If I hit the @ key I have the 100% mission success indicated). I order my wingman back to the FARP, we both land - but nothing seems to change. I appear to be not making progress. Apart from maybe the enemy line on the map is being pushed back. Is this what should happen? Thanks, any advice appreciated. Edit: OK, I have now discovered that I am making progress and I'm sure that the overall campaign is moving forward. I presume you could go in the other direction? By this I mean If you loose too many of the set piece battles you could loose the war?
  3. Thanks miguez. It will take me sometime to digest this!
  4. I know this is a very basic question but how do you do a 'Navigation position fix'? I have looked in the manual to no avail (if it is there I can't find it). Thanks.
  5. OK. Thanks for your comments. If it happens again I will re post.
  6. Mmmm! Difficult to say. It's only happened a couple of times. Both in the middle of a fire fight with lots happening. Eplosions, gunfire, radio chatter etc.
  7. Thanks for the prompt reply. My sound is onboard, RealTek HD Audio, on a Foxconn P35AP-S Mboard.
  8. Help please! I was playing through the second mission in the Georgian Oil war - with no apparent problems - when my PC locked up completely. Sound was still working but the game (and my pc) had frozen. Only way out was a Ctrl-Alt-Delete followed by task manager and 'end program'. From memory this has happened once previously in the Deployment Campaign. 9. Phew! Just finished my first mission in the Georgian Oil War. I discovered that I had succeeded by pressing the @ key to check on my progress. My question is: I did not appear to get the usual message informing me that I had succeeded (as in the previous Deployment Campaign). Is this normal or just a glitch? Thanks again.
  10. Thanks for this. It is probably the answer. I like the idea of setting the pitch slightly forward to get the nose down. I suspect that most of the instability comes from repeated attempts to fire guided missiles when the nose is too high (i.e. I nudge forward to align the target recticule and as a result introduce instability into my hover). Thanks to all for comments.
  11. I have an occasional problem (but too frequent for comfort) where I get myself into what appears to be a stable hover. I go about my business of targeting and knocking out the enemy only to find myself drifting away from the target area or sometimes spinning. I usually have to stop what I am doing and waste precious minutes getting myself back into position and restarting my attack. Usually the lost time/effort works against me and I end up compromised once again. My question please is are there any techniques for stable hover that I maybe overlooking (while targeting). Thanks.
  12. Thanks for the D-link suggestions I will see if it helps. I am glad that someone else thinks that this first Georgian Oil War mission is a 'bitch' Edit: OK, I'm getting into this (what a great game!). Almost there but no real idea of what the 'success' criteria is. Do you have to knock out all of the enemy units to gain a ‘success’ At present I'm flying around without really knowing what I have to do to succeed?
  13. Point taken barra733. Maybe it's time to make my wingman step up to the plate.
  14. Ok, I have recently completed the Deployment campaign (but still feel very much a 'rookie'). After a couple of days off I have now started the Georgian Oil War (version 1.1). A question please - Is this campaign a step level increase in difficulty (or is it my imagination)? I have had 5 attempts at the first mission and have yet to make it last more than a few minutes before I get toasted. I am ingressing at not much more than ground level but it does not seem to help - I get more ordinance/SAMs' fired at me than I can handle. Any advice appreciated.
  15. 'Dusk' campaign mission - success at last! Thanks again for all comments and in particular sweinhart3 (solved it immediately after reading your post). OK, I finally cracked this one as follows: Approached the enemy supply base from the opposite side of the river using the hill for cover. Used one of my guided missiles to take out the SAM launcher between me and the target (initially tried with cannon but to not much effect). Did not attempt to use my wingman at all, yet, just kept him with me. As soon as I was near enough to lock onto the tanks in the target area I started taking out the row of heavy armour using missiles. As posted earlier, when I tried to get my wingman to accept datalink target requests I had no success at all - I tried several times, only to get the reply, 'negative' or 'unable' (I'm still puzzled by this???) When I had finished off the heavy armour I moved on to the light tanks and BMPs. By now I was almost out of missiles and I really needed help from my wingman. In desperation I tried 'locking onto targets, individually (in the target area) and asking him by radio to 'attack my target' This did the trick. Although he would not accept requests to attack target groups in the target area he did seem OK with individual requests? So, each time he actioned my individual requests until he ran out of missiles (I guess). Then he did what he has done before and left me to it and flew away. Using my remaining guided missiles (and the unguided ones) plus cannon I managed to finish off the rest of the targets - Only a few cannon rounds left at the end. Couple of final points: It is very easy to get shot down in this mission, so I had to stay low and keep my distance. Also it is necessary to employ counter measures quickly (launch flares) when SAMs are fired. Thanks again for your help. Edit: Just some clarification on my comments concerning my inability to get my wingman to attack Data-linked targets. I have since found that this was due to my inexperience with the ABRIS. I was not entering the data into memory correctly. All is well now. Thanks again.
  16. Thanks to: bill, Panzertard & sweinhart3, you have given me a few ideas. I will post again when I have had the chance to put them into practice.
  17. I am working my way through the campaigns and learning more about this great game as I go. One perplexing problem, which has stalled me, is how to get my wingman to follow orders. For example, whilst trying to complete the 'Dusk' mission I really do need to get this guy to take out some parked armour. Getting him to attack the required targets is proving very problematic. I have flown this mission a couple of dozen times now (always on full realism) and never quite managed to take out all the armour (I run out of ammo). He does not seem to respond at all to datalink commands and most of the time will simply reply with either 'negative' or 'unable'. I have had some success by asking him to 'attack my target' or 'attack ground targets' and even 'attack my enemy' but only occasionally. What I need him to do is attack the parked tanks and help me out a bit. I assumed that if I locked onto a tank and datalinked to him that he has to attack the same target 'type' in the 'target area' he would do so - but no chance, his response is either 'negative' or 'unable'. Am I missing something? Thanks, any advice appreciated.
  18. I had a similar problem last night with the 'Dusk' mission (a bit later on). To complete this mission you have to take out lots of armour at a enemy supply base. To make this work you appear to have to make full use of your wingman's capability. You do not have enough rockets etc. to complete this mission on your own. It's not easy to get him to folow instructions. The most annoying thing my wingman did (when things were going really well) was to send me a message saying he was 'breaking off contact' and he simply did that, flew away and left me to it. Without his help I was stuffed.
  19. Yep, I remember this one well. It is the car. I missed it too on it's initial escape. What I did was hover arround the town and use targeting system to search for the car. You will find it parked up in a cluster of buildings (it is the only car visible). Destroy it and you get the mission success.
  20. Yep, thanks for that. Manual slewing of the gates does the trick.
  21. Hi, This is a question about targeting in low light situations. I seem to have a problem locking onto (and staying locked onto) targets in this mission. This mission involves eliminating lots of armour stored at a rebel supply base. Everything starts OK with me picking off the targets one by one. As the light fades I loose the ability to lock onto targets, or if I do manage to lock on, often I will loose the lock after my missile is fired (wasted missile). I don't know enough about the targeting system (yet) but my question is, is it effected in low light situations? Any advice appreciated.
  22. Good point, I'm not sure. I suspect you are right. I will try that out next time. Thanks, Quirk!
  23. Hi, I have this problem where the HUD will not return to navigation display after a targeting/combat phase. This usually occurs at the end of a sucessful mission when I want to return to base. I press the designated 'back' key and nothing happens. Or, to be precise, I hear a 'click' and sometimes I see the navigation display only while I am holding the 'back' key down. This then reverts to targeting when the key is released. I'm not sure if this is a bug, or, I am doing something wrong? Any advice/comments appreciated.
  24. Hi again, Solved it. Gave it another try after I made the above request for advice and as you might guess, it worked. I did find this quite a difficult mission. This time the difference maybe was a little more agression. I took ground targets out with my guided missiles as fast as I could and ordered my flight to do the same. When I ran out of guided missiles I switched to cannon (which I find very effective) and that did the trick. I ran out of fuel a few km. out from my return base and had to eject but what the hell, I did it.
