Does Blackshark even properly take advantage of SLI? SLI has been around since the late 90's.

This is how I would be. I sit 2m from my 50" plasma for movies. Desk-distance for a gaming display would be idea. So now I have the problem of TV's no longer coming with DVI ports. I have DVI, HDMI, or SOL.

Well that's no help at all! :doh: Hmmm... filling loads of my FOV is what I'm after, and I know what you mean by 'at first'. Do you connect via HDMI? How far do you sit? -Doc

Setting both the launcher and the DCS.exe to run as admin cracked it. SysReq now takes screenshots. Want to hear a good Vista story? Before I made the changes, the Screenshot folder appeared as being empty, even though I had tried to take screenshots in the past. After making the changes and taking a few screenshots, the folder now shows those images. When I double-click on one of them to open it with ACDsee, one of the 'missing' screenshots comes up. When I scroll through all the images with ACDsee, it shows all of the screenshots EXCEPT the new ones. When I close ACDsee, the folder still only shows the three new shots. Oooooo.... spooky! If I right-click one of the new ones and open it with a different app, it opens that image and shows ONLY the three new images. Yay, Vista! Amazing magic tricks that make you go "OOOOOOO!" and then kick your monitor in with a boot.

I just gave it a shot by going to DCS.exe and checking the option 'run this as administrator' However, not it won't launch a mission. It tires to, and then just goes to the after action screen. If I uncheck the box and try again, it starts working again. I'll do the same to launcher.exe and see if that helps.

I think I've just answered my own question. I switched to 1920x1080 and fired up the game. Wow. 2560x1600 is really nice compared to that. I think I'll stick with the 30".

I cap it at 60 for smoothness with the TrackIR, but I still get poor framerates around lots of buildings. So dropping from 2560x1600 to 1920x1080 would certainly help, though I have no major complaints. What I'm looking for is just a larger, more immersive experience.

Vista, and I was thinking just that. How portable is the install? Can I just move it, or are there registry entries as well? Or, what if I run the game as Administrator? As in, use the 'Run as administrator' option.

Currently I am playing on a 30" LCD @ 2560x1600. I'm considering switching to a 40" or 46" LED TV @ 1920x1080 for gaming. Cons: Lower resolution, especially when the larger physical pixel size due to the larger screen is taken into consideration. HDMI is the only option. It may not be an issue, I just have no experience running a PC to a gaming display with that. Pros: More game immersion (Primary goal) Higher framerates Still a decent resolution... nothing to shake a stick at. I don't have room on my desk for multiple displays, but a larger single panel would work. Any and all feedback, please! Thanks all, -Doc

I hit the SysRq key, the screen pauses briefly, nothing shows up in the screenshots folder. Thoughts? -Doc

Spot-on, Bek, those are the birds. Are they visible in every iteration of the mission? (I ask because I have an unrelated issue with skins not showing up on some vehicles. In this instance, all I can actually see are the missiles themselves, not the platform.)

Ahhh, now that sounds like something to look at. The next time it happens, I'll check it out!

Ah, I just left the game and didn't try it again. I did some hot comms in another mission and it worked fine. Thanks for checking, I'll give it a go tomorrow and test it. Patched up, yes.

I think I know the one you are referring to. That's the other side of the road from where I'm talking about. There are 4 to 5 missile launching vehicles parked out in a grassy area on the other side of the road.

It's the only non-campaign mission with the word 'pirates' in the title. Toward the bottom. Let me know if I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks for the reply. The mission where I noticed this was the 'pirates' mission where it suggests that you install NVG. The mission starts with you hot on the FARP, so I assume the radios are on. I switch the selector and never get a reply. If I shut down and try again after the door is open, it works fine.

Thank you, I'll give this a try! I use the quickstart now, but have wanted to start doing it manually... this may be just the incentive I needed. EDIT: This is great! It's really satisfying to fire everything up yourself. As a guy, I just love knobs and switches. (Just ask my girlfriend who is forever saying, "damn it, those aren't knobs to adjust!") I sat in my truck before driving home and went through all the motions of the checklist.

Not sure about the timer, but since the target is within weapon launching constaints I'd imagine it's not the issue. Also. firing from the same distance but a different location may result in a hit. BTW, not related but saving the track reminded me to ask this: How do I take screen shots? I hit the SysRq button and I get that momentary pause at it (I assume) does the screen cap, but nothing ever shows up in the screenshot directory.

Hello, From what I can tell, I communicate with the ground crew while hot by turning the radio knob near the targeting controls to the ground crew setting, but I never get a reply. I'm obviously doing something wrong. Help? In the mean time I'm having to do a full shutdown and open the door. :-( -Doc

A couple issues: There are cases where there are undrawn things blocking the shots, yes. I've gotten used to dealing with that. However, there are times when the thing is sitting in the middle of nowhere, well within missile range, and the weapon detonates just before striking the target. If I move laterally to a new position, it may hit and destroy the target. Flying to the target reveals no hidden map elements that may have blocked the original shot. Can someone confirm for me: In the "Clear What's-it" mission, where you have to clear out the town before the convoy passes through it, I see 4 or 5 vehicles with 3 large missiles on top parked off to the side of the road in a big grassy area near some buildings. What are those? I can't kill them, and apparently they aren't targets. Am I seeing things?

Clearly, however for logistical reasons not worth going into, it would be nice if I only have to DL the main two install files. If they are NOT the latest edition, then that is kind of weird.

When I DL the two installation files, are they already current version, or do I need to DL the patch as well? I'd imagine they are the latest version, but it doesn't actually say on the DL page. -Doc

In the 'Clear Whats-it' mission, where you have to clear out the town before the convoy passes through, I see about 5 missile launchers next to the road. I can shoot them all day and they don't die. I'm convinced that this is a problem, and not a game parameter issue. I have also fired at vehicles and found that the missile detonates a few meters before hitting it, no matter how close I am. If I move around laterally, suddenly the missile can get through. So I seem to have an invisible force field issue at times as well.
