  1. Mi-8s are busy, we got things to do, places to go. We don't have time to wait around for all the lesser helicopters to mosey their way downtown.
  2. With the new sale kicking off, it looks like the Helicopter Bundle has been marked down twice on the ED E-shop. I don't know if this an error or not, but for now you can pick up all 4 helicopters for just $34.99. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/shop/bundles/helicopters_bundle/ P.S. Do it! We can always use more helo pilots!
  3. It was really back and forth at LZ Charlie at the end. If the mission ended 10 minutes earlier or 10 minutes later, Blue would have won, I think. Which participants streamed the match? 104th Maverick mentioned that some people did, but I didn't catch who exactly.
  4. Alpenwolf, what are your thoughts on re-establishing the weapon restrictions?
  5. Just checked the Tacview and turns out I logged off within 10 minutes of the messages that they were shot down, so nothing unusual is in the file. I'll keep an eye out if happens again, thanks! Update: Just looked at it again and it actually shows that an F-5 took off from Nalchik and was headed for the AWACSes. It looks like an AI plane (no name is listed for it) but it might have been a Blue player. Link for tacview: https://drive.google.com/open?id=19iBqeZl6qSoldtXdGkTxmqFupnLQo8of
  6. M. Alpenwolf, we just had some problems with Ossetia. Mi-8s couldn't load any crates ("too far from logistics") and then both Red AWACS were shot down with no Blue forces on the map at about twelve minutes into the mission.
  7. There were between 4-12 players online during the last four hours of the mission, except for about 30 minutes when it dropped to just two players. Mission ended at 1700 GMT on Sunday, so right before what seems to be a peak time for the server.
  8. Just finished up another great Abu Dhabi mission. Air assaults at the airports, then counterattacks to retake the fields, big air battle over downtown, close air support of troops in contact: it had it all. Loads of fun!
  9. Same thing happened to me last night during Open Range and there were no Blue forces on the server yet. I was flying an Mi-8 from Mineralnye Vody so maybe it has to something do with where you spawn. But it's not really a big deal now that we know about it; it's just something to plan around.
  10. Will the AP-30 grenade launcher pod be allowed on the Mi-8?
  11. A dusk or night-time version of Two Towns or Five Points would be fun to try, with the artillery shooting illumination rounds over the frontlines every five minutes or so. But might work better when the weapons restrictions are back in place so that the strikers have to fly into the illuminated area instead of just using standoff weapons.
  12. Sending this clip to every Red player who still refuses to use SRS or fly with wingmen. Guys, see what's possible? :smartass:
  13. Just give the mission some time, it'll pick up. The surprising thing, for me, about the Abu Dhabi mission is how cool it was to be fighting overhead a huge city. Very different from all the other missions. Flying the Mi-8 into the dropzones felt like flying into Mogadishu in Black Hawk Down.
  14. A-7E Corsair II coming to DCS World
  15. Brown Floyd - Mi-8
  16. Unfortunately, the server just crashed. It happened a couple seconds after I had taken off from the Red airbase in the Abu Dhabi mission, but that was probably just a coincidence.
  17. Looks great! Do the helos use "real slingloading" or the simulated multiplayer style? (He asks while nervously re-reading Chapter 13 of the Mi-8 flight manual.)
  18. I have mine on a 250gb SSD and it fits no problem. With the 3 main maps and a few planes, it takes up around 150gb.
  19. Nobody's mentioned the Viggen yet, but I think it's the plane that best captures the whole mid-Cold War vibe, with its basic HUD and its effective-but-inscrutable onboard computer.
  20. You adjust the magnetic compass heading (as indicated on the backup course indicator, right side of front panel) until it matches the gyrocompass heading (as indicated on the ring on the Central Indicator, surrounding the radar display).
  21. In Ossetia, the Mi-8s are not able to order up AA crates from the spawn points like they used to. The message "You are not close enough to friendly logistics to get a crate!" is returned when you try to get a crate from the CTLD menu. Update: Blue is reporting in chat that their ground crew menu is not working, so they cannot get airborne in the F-5. Maybe something's bugged in the mission. Previous mission (Five Points) worked fine.
  22. The F10 map restriction is the most underrated feature of this server, I think. It feels very realistic and immersive to be frantically searching for the ground target (e.g., Blue EWR-1 in the Desert. If you know, you know.) while the AWACS is calmly giving you reports of a bandit closing in fast, or trying to figure out where you are after a dogfight and you're at bingo fuel. It feels like cheating and I hate it now when I go to another server and they've got you and all the blue force displayed perfectly on the F10 map.
  23. Did some Phone Booth today and it was the first time I've seen Red clear out Beslan completely. (Having two Ka-50s with the unrestricted weapons helped...) There were two hours left on the scenario and so we thought that it would get boring, but no, a bunch of other units appeared and we got some additional tasking. We had no idea that would happen and it was a fun surprise for us all. Great mission design, Alpen!
  24. Just learned from another forum that the UH-1 Huey module has an "autopilot" mode which simulates your co-pilot taking control of the aircraft. The mode is even disabled if your co-pilot is killed. This sure would be a nice (and frankly, realistic) feature for the ZA, especially when I'm fiddling around with the F10 map or the RSBN dials to hit the next waypoint.
  25. A. Wolf, Thank you for adding Su-25As to the missions. However, the new ones at Mineralnye Vody in Open Range are not working for me. They're doing that thing where they start 6 feet above the apron and then slam into the ground.
