  1. Hi all,

    Due to TrackIR 5 (and it's polling rate of 120Hz) I have to lock my FPS at 60 (because 120fps is unachievable in DCS) - and 60fps in an achievable derivative of 120.

    I achieve this by using 'Nvidia Inspector' locking DCS to 60FPS using the 'Flip Metering' method.

    ** NOTE - my normal average FPS without locking them are around 80FPS ***

    This eliminates that 'jittery condition' when panning around, and it's quite smooth.

    However, this only works when the FPS are dead on 60FPS.

    My question - I notice with the FPS counter (Ctrl - Pause) that the FPS never seems to stay perfectly on 60FPS, rather every couple of seconds etc, it will jump to 72 (for a split second) then back to 60, then 59 (split second), or 62 (split second) etc etc back to 60.

    My Rig seems capable of maintaining 60FPS but it appears there's something in the background (every couple of seconds) that seems to confuse (momentarily) the FPS lock.

    Does anyone have any better experience on how to completely lock 60FPS...?

    Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    My System:

    i7 8700K @ 5.0ghz

    Nvidia 1080ti

    1TB SSD m.2

    16GB @ 3200mhz

    3440 x 1440 G-Sync

    TrackiR 5

    Thrust Master Warthog HOTAS

    MFG Crosswinds

    In Nvidia Control Panel try Vertical Sync= Fast. I also have 144hz monitor no tearing with TrackIR. I also set the monitor to 60.I neither need 120 fps nor I have hardware for it.

  2. Great, now you complain that they release the patch notes ahead of the patch. If they hold back the patch notes till the patch has been uploaded on the servers, then people are complaining too.

    I guess ED just can't do it right, no matter what they do...

    You are right.. Silly me!

  3. Kegetys man!

    I don't know what you've done but it's unbelievable what you've achieved here. 60 fps locked (Non-VR) with my weak rig.I could fly fluidly first time in 2.5.6.

    Only problem it takes a little while to load models in ME, that's it!

    I hope you continue to update the mod along with ED patches. It's obvious they are not going to go this direction.

    Thanks a lot.

  4. I have a question about the Tomcat. I'm pretty much fed up with ED and the EA planes. I've waited forever for the Hornet to be complete and now it seems it will be well into 2021 for that to happen. Like a dummy, I bought the Viper and it's even worse.

    Good point! I was exactly thinking the same, especially after the last ''hopeless'' roadmap update.

  5. It's not an on/off button. The conclusion of this thread can't be buy/don't buy/only matter of time.. We are not questioning the quality of the product here. Especially NOT Heatblur's way of doing things.

    You buy an aircraft not a t-shirt! The way it handles, it's systems, the era and the technology of the respective era. How does it compare to newer jets? Is it complicated like Hornet?

    Will i hate it like i did the F-86? Am i capable of flying it? ? Is it resource hungry for my ''on the limit rig?'' These are the questions i can answer only by me after a while of trying it.

    Let's think you want to buy a car. It's very well made by a known company. You get inside you can't find any mistakes but still you think it's not the right one for you! May be you are a very tall person you can't sit comfortably! May be you got used to your previous car and hope to find some feeling of it but you can't - In that case what Warthog is for me- No matter what the reason is... Would you blame the company? Or you would think you have a different taste than others ( which is the case most of the time, that's why we all don't drive the same cars)

    Sorry for the babbling but ''the ONE module to rule them all'' is not a very helpful sentence when you want to TEST an airplane.

    Stay safe!

  6. We will definitely give you another chance to try it in the future. When and how I cannot say yet, but I think it is also nice if not everything comes at once.

    The year is long, and there are so many great modules etc to try and buy right now, we really recommend you do that, they are not to be missed imo.

    I will also see if we can make the next free weekend a prolonged one. Please understand however that for the first couple years, in our niche market new modules unfortunately struggle to break even. The investments are enormous and the return is very limited. Hence we need to be careful, that these new modules do not get cornered into a sales-shopping mechanism too early. For older modules which broke even on their investment that does not matter that much anymore, but for new modules that can be very hurtful to the business. It is also different if you have a large portfolio of around 40 modules, then this effect is mitigated somewhat. And while it is definitely not about money, or greed, we still must make sure that the business remains healthy. Not only so we can bring you new modules in the future, but also so we can maintain the existing ones. In the end, and contrary to other games, we basically signed a life long contract: every two weeks or so there will be an update that requires our attention, hopefully for a long long time to come. So we are all in it for the long game and have to make compromises unfortunately. Thank you for your understanding.

    In any case we hope that you enjoy the free month to the fullest!

    Thank you for quick answer! I'm looking forward to get my my hands on Tomcat!.

    And a general complaint - not at all critics on ED or you!- but it's sad to see game developers /companies lost the spirit of ''try and buy'' hence the demo releases. Chasing free play times is not very handy if you have a life outside gaming..

    Take care all!

  7. Our apologies that we do not partake in the free month, but since we just had our sale and a free weekend last month, we decided not to partake in another sale right afterwards.

    In general we try to keep our sales not necessarily tied to ED sales, for one, because one takes away attention from the other, for second it is nice if you have goodies spread out through the year and for last, with only 2 fairly new and very new modules available vs around 40, mostly seasoned ones, managing sales poses different challenges for us than for ED.

    In no way has this decision to do with greed or money however, I hope our brought portfolio as the largest community sponsor in DCS proves that as well. We try to give back as much as we can and we will continue to do so. Thank you for your kind understanding and most importantly: your incredible support!

    We hope you stay safe in these times and that you enjoy the free month at its fullest.

    If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

    Well, it does not have to be a sale.. You let it free for a month. If liked, could be bought for a normal price.. I missed the last one. It was a day long i guess and I could not make it.

    I was really wondering about the Tomcat. But it's quite expensive for saying ''it's not my thing'' and let it rot in the drive.. Trying it for a month would be long enough to decide if you get well with the machine.

    I was little disappointed -no offense- but in that exact moment i saw that you're not participating, i just asked : Why???

    I'm pretty sure you have your reasons businesswise. After all, it's your sweat, blood and tears, you can do whatever you like with it!. Just saying!

    Stay safe out there!

  8. It's most transparent post to date.Thank you for that.

    As i'm willing to complain about few additions which i was expecting to happen ''yesterday'', i'd rather give no comment about the deadlines.

    As a user/customer i expect that all the list's been done in a day so finally we have somehow a complete product - everybody has it's own complete definition in dictionary i guess-, but that's not how things work in real life is it?..

    Take care of yourselves.

  9. To be fair, they used OpenGL before switching to Vulkan, not DX11. OpenGL is kinda low on the totem pole to begin with, and huge gains going to Vulkan make sense. Not sure if we can expect to see those from DX11 to Vulkan...

    Oh i didn’t know it was OpenGL.That makes sense now.Thank you

  10. Just check web/youtube for integrated Vulkan API for one of the civilian sims on the market.

    They say the performance gains are almost %50. No stuttering no hick ups. I wish ED could make this priority one.

    I tried to not give any brands in order to not break the forum rules. You will have to make an easy guess for it, as there are not so many options.

  11. It could be the "brain melting", "ground braking", "highly detailed and complex aircraft representing a huge milestone" to be announced this year. Who knows after all.

    Well, that’s news to me? Is that a statement from ED?

  12. ⋆UPDATE 2⋆ 03/08/20

    Lot of people were complaining about the weakness of strobe lights, including me!

    So here is the workaround for it! It's very powerful now and reflects from the ground and body!

    siqyu4ul_o.gif

    For those interested, I attached both the F-16C.lua (if you'll replace the .lua file take a backup or rename the original as.lua.bak) and a so called "mod" JSGME compatible.

    I tested the Anti Collision Knob, it works in every stage (1,2,3,4,A,B,C) So no problems there!

    My aim was to add some immersion and real life look to the game. I hope you can enjoy it.

    (OBSOLETE FOR NEW VERSION)

    1-Turn off Anti Collision knob. Assuming that you start at night, AC knob is on position 1.

    NEW UPDATED PROCEDURE AS OF MARCH 8

    If you start the same mission with ''FLY AGAIN'' button, the sequence does not start everytime on one knob turn. After many tests, new procedure would be:

    Assuming that you start at night, AC knob is on position 1.

    1 - Turn the MASTER light knob all the way to NORM.

    2 - Turn off Anti Collision knob.

    3 - Then turn on Anti-Collison lights to 1. If it does not start turn off and turn to 1 again until you see the lights working, you can now set the A/C light position to whatever you like.

    KNOWN ISSUES:

    Sometimes it does not initiate the sequence at the start of the mission.(Hot start) In that case turn off and on, the MASTER switch, until you see lights working (I did it twice). Sometimes it starts right away, sometimes does not. I tested a lot, tried every option to see if I can find a way around: No joy

    NOT KNOWN / NOT TESTED

    MULTIPLAYER IC

    I DO NOT EVEN KNOW HOW MULTIPLAYER START PAGE LOOKS LIKE SO DON'T ASK!!!!!! I never fly MP, don't know , not interested!

    If you have any doubt that this file will break something or cause problems, do not even attempt to install.I give no guarantee whatsoever.

    I don't see it as a mod as how we consider the ''Modding'' word. That is why the title is ''Workaround''. ED created the natostrobelight option and somehow did not integrate it except few AI helicopters and A-10C, so only thing I've made was to adapt the option into F-16.That's it!

    And how it all started:

    F-16 New Strobe Light.zip

    F-16C.lua

  13. Last of the last..It's the best I could do. Some workarounds, some tweaks.Looks like that.

    If you like it, I attached both the modded FA-18C.lua (if you'll replace the .lua file take a backup or rename the original as.lua.bak) and a so called "mod" JSGME compatible.Also for those who know what they are doing:

    			[1]	= {
    			typename	=	"collection",
    			lights 		= {
    							{typename = "natostrobelight", argument = 193, period = 1.3, phase_shift = 0, color = {0.8,0,0}, intensity_max = 68, position  = {-5.32, 2.58, -1.81}},
    						},
    		},

    Enjoy!

    F-18 Strobe Light Mod.zip

    FA-18C.lua

  14. Exactly, if we can just add an additional argument to this entry, we're done.

    A few flyables have good strobe lights, such as the A-10C and the JF-17. The Mirage looks good too, although it doesn't light up as much.

    We can't! Arguments must be defined in a 3D environment as a connection to animations/ .lua files.

    That would mean .EDM files must be tempered with..and that is illegal afaik.

    Again question comes to ED: Function is there guy, why not use it?

  15. maybe ed can chime in help with this.

    possible for the f16?

    It's much worse than the F-18.Positions are all over the place, i don't even see where it's flashing.But i'm looking to it.

    BTW i will upload the F-18.lua file as it is! Give me little time.

    ED would place this during the Early Access phase but they didn't. I would like to see it as in all their wisdom must be a reason to not activate it.

    But like i said why AH-64 has these lights and flyables don't? That's very curious.

    Hopefully, or someone who knows more about how this works. It doesn't seem particularly complicated, we're just missing some key details.

    I tried for the F-16, you don't have the above problem, since there's a single strobe on the tail, but it kinda messes up the anti-collision patterns that you select via the knob in the cockpit. The strobe effect isn't well placed, but when I tried to adjust its position, it stopped showing up.

    Like i doubt single argument for strobe lights limits us. Other units with natostrobelights have multiple entries for arguments.

    No, it's not complicated may be somebody with much more expertise on modding will handle this.

  16. The left one looks really good, good job! There must be a way to get to work for both of them, since the original effect is working for both. I think the answer is in modifying argnatostrobelight somehow, since it's applied to both strobes.

    Thank you!

    argnatostrobelight does not have the same effect.It must be the default one no? Reflections go away when selecting that one.

    I don't know what is causing this.May be shaders? Intensity entry also did not work on it..

    I checked two units (A-10C and AH-64) both have reflections and are really powerful and unfortunately both use ''natostrobelight'' argument.

    I'll let you know if i get my mind around it.

  17. I found the lights_data for the Hornet is in the FA-18C.lua in CoreMods. I managed to get a red strobelight effect, but I can't correct its position with pos_correction.

    I also don't know how to make it work for the two separate strobe lights. I assume with "connector", but I don't really know how to find the names of the lights.

    You're probably much further ahead, I'm looking forward to the result! I'll keep poking around in the meantime.

    Don't know how much further I am.:cry:

    But here is the code:

    lights = {
    		{typename = "natostrobelight", argument = 193, period = 1.2, phase_shift = 0, connector = "RED_BEACON L", color = {0.8,0,0}, intensity = 200, position = {-5.3, 2.2, -3.0}},
    		{typename = "natostrobelight", argument = 193, period = 1.2, phase_shift = 0, connector = "RED_BEACON R", color = {0.8,0,0}, intensity = 200, position = {0.820, 0.2, 0.0}}
    },

    The bothering thing is: I tried to use connectors which are non-existent in 3d model.Connector names defined in 3D models somehow and my guess is they have fixed positions. This is where I am clueless.

    After trial and error I managed to get strobe lights working with an ok positioning on the left vertical stabilizer, but as you see in the code, as there are no two separate arguments for them(arg=193 for both Vert.Sta.)my guess is when you tweak left also the right will be.

    What I didn't try is to input extreme values to right side to see if it's moving..

    Knowing that everytime I change a value, I have to restart the game check if it's correct and pray there is no syntax fault in lua file. It's really time consuming. Praying is... not the lua part :D

    Kidding aside:

    I don't understand why AH-64's which nobody can fly has natostrobelights and Hornet does not.Yes Apache has working strobe lights.

    May be ED will add strobe lights in 2021 or so and all work will be in vain, but hey until then we will not be more pathetic than AI Apache right?

    Greetings

  18. I'll also want to check the lua, do you mind telling me where it is? Or share the lua with your edits so far?

    This sounds very interesting, if we can get strobe lights like the A-10C, it'd be great. :thumbup: Btw, the gif link is broken, I can't see it either.

    Sure!.We can exchange some knowledge.I will write the code soon. Thank you for your interest!
