Yes the DCS Yak 52 is now a meme for Eagle Dynamics abandonware. They don't have anything to say anymore, except the usual stuff about "when the devs have time" (which they won't, don't and haven't because they're put to work on profitable new modules naturally), the community managers clearly can't do anything and are in an awkward spot so just resort to locking the multitude of mocking complaints threads . We've been mugged off with this module and ED decision makers apparantly dont care because we all keep buying the new profitable modules regardless. This is one of the issues with a trust based deal like Early Access and there isn't anything the customer can do when the firm pulls a fast one with a module like this that remains incomplete and silly in parts 3.5 years after launch. Lesson learned. EA works, when ED cares to finish the job.
@NineLine Your last comment hasn't aged very well has it? Funny that. Would you please now explain the near 3 year year gap and lack of progress to your customers. It's time to stop the nonsense and give us a formal statement on the status of this module. Thanks

Just to let you know it worked perfectly. DCS updated, repaired and working well.
Hopefully someone in the same situation can read this thread and gain some insight from it.
Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

Wow, this hole gets deeper and deeper. AV-8B, JF-17, M-2000C, MiG-29, Mosquito, P-47D, Su-27, Su-33 and Yak-52 are also affected.
Yak52? There arent any pylons, armor or weapons. Is the smoke pod doing it?

All seems to be going well, I've run the repair, all it found was 22 files in ../openbeta/downloads that "shouldn't be there".
Just downloading last Fridays update now, I couldnt fit it on the old SSD..... give me 2 hours.......... and I'll report back.
Quick question: What defines where DCS downloads updates/modules to?
Best regards,

Great thanks Rudel,
I've been through and formatted, allocated and labelled the new SSD as D drive, the old D drive is now labelled E drive and I have copied the entire program files folder across. Only has 2x folders in it "Eagle Dynamics" and "SRS".
So as my DCS OB shortcut points to D:Program files/Eagle Dynamics/etc can I just expect DCS to "work as normal"?
Thanks RDG

Cool, thats a lot simpler than I expected to be honest!
Does the order that the drives are placed along the daisychain make any difference, in terms of performance?
I'll get the physical installation done and come back with an update, hopefully someone else can also benefit from this info going forward. I imagine a lot of people will also be upgrading drive sizes in the not too distance future, given the size of the updates these days and the maps......if Syria is anything to go by.... I had to strip all my other terrains out to make room for the Syria install to complete. That's what finally prompted me to get a bigger drive.

So looking inside the case I can see there are 3 cables that are free to move and end in an unused spare connector.
2 of them appear to power supplies of some sort, a single fat one with a square chunky connector and a messy one that has all sorts of connections coming from it. One very thin cable shoots off to the case fan.
I figure that the important part is is the daisychained cables that have the SSDs sprouting from them? What a faff! I had to unscrew one of the SSDs to get enough slack in the cables to get a usable image.
Pic attached. I've Labelled it:
"A": Run from the PSU.
"A1": Daisychain running on from first SSD, 200GB D drive in this case. Next along the chain is the spare connector? and then next along (off the left side off the image) is the C Drive SSD (OS) which is the end of the chain.
"B": Sata Cable? Runs to Mobo Sata 6 Port.
So am I right in thinking that I have one spare SSD power conector on that daisychain (The one middle left in the pic) and need one more sata cable to connet the new SSD to one of the spare Sata connections on the mobo? Then I can use the simpler "direct copy from one drive to another" method? Then relabel drives to suit?
Cheers

Thanks Rudel, for that info, I understand what goes on inside a PC but only in general terms, certainly not details of individual component groups. its always good to learn something new.
My project for tommorow is to fit the SSD when it arrives and get DCS running, I've got all day if I need it so I will have a rummage around and see what is inside the PSU section of the chassis and report back.
I've got a shiny new Hornet to fiddle with........

Thanks again chaps, Ive had a look and attached a picture:
Seems like the C Drive (The one labelled MB in the pic, which has the OS on it) is plugged into a Sata3 slot and D drive is plugged into Sata 6 slot. Can you confirm I am correct on that?
Would I be better off moving C drive (OS) to a Sata 6 slot as well as settling the new 1TB SSD into a Sata 6?
There a no extra cables either.
Thoughts?
Cheers

That's fantastic, thanks U.S. and Rudel
I get what I need to do now, will take the side off the case and have a look at the mobo, see what is plugged where etc.
If the two current drives are in the Sata 6 slots (#9 on the diagram?), how would I proceed? Put the new drive in one of the Sata 3 slots (#8 on diagram), copy the contents, remove the old SSD and then move the new SSD across to the now empty Sata 6 slot?
Cheers

Righto, thanks, mobo is an ASUS H81M-Plus: https://www.asus.com/SupportOnly/H81MPLUS/HelpDesk_Knowledge/
So I cant just copy the ED/DCS openbeta folder to the external SSD, remove the (old) SSD D drive, fit the (new) 1TB SSD and paste the ED/DCS Openbeta folder back from the external SSD?

I think that's my point, I need to remove (old) SSD D drive and replace with a larger SSD, which is going to be (new) D drive.
-
Wow fast! Thanks chaps.
Good question Rudel.
I dont know tbh. I went on the Crucial.com website, used the checkertool to enter my Motherboard and it spat out a list of different sized SSDs, then I ordered the 1TB model number cheaper, on Amazon.
Its a 2.5" Sata drive, there are 2x Sata SSD slots, I dont appear to have M2 but I've ordered the Sata drive now anyway.

Hiya,
Could I ask for some technical guidance please?
I currently have a 2 SSD setup:
C drive: 500GB SSD with OS (Win10), all my normal, non DCS PC stuff and my DCS Saved Games folder.
D drive: 200GB SSD with Eagle dynamics/DCS Openbeta folder only.
But...... clearly 200GB is not enough for DCS these days so I have bitten the bullet and ordered a 1TB SSD.
Could someone please explain the correct way to do the following:
1: Remove 200GB D drive, install new 1TB SSD as D drive and move Eagle Dynamics/DCS openbeta to the new SSD.
2: Leave 500GB C drive alone and leave the Saved Games folder there as well.
It's really just a case of swapping one D drive for a larger D drive in an efficient manner that allows DCS to continue to work.
I'm comfortable with physically removing/installing the SSDs, but not sure how to deal with the existing ED folder before removing the old SSD that it is currently on or how to get the ED folder onto the new SSD.
I do have access to a 1TB external SSD that I can use as a holding space. Is it as simple as copying the ED folder out of (old) D drive and pasting it back to the new SSD which will also get labelled D drive?
I hope that my request makes sense. Any advice will be gratefully recieved.
Thanks in advance.

Hi mate. I've got this today. its only the Mig 29C, the other two MiG 29 models dont have the red circle on the line for "target lock".
There is no info when hovering over red circle (usually explains the clash) just say "Target Lock". i.e the name of the function on that line.
Not being able to lock is a bit of a problem.
-
Hiya, I use that setup but with G27 pedals (Throttle brake and clutch). Same as you I couldnt get it to work, in DCS, the way you are trying. What I did was set the brake and throttle as one axis in Windows Control Panel and the clutch is always seperate anyhow. Now I can use the brake and throttle as rudder pedals and the clutch as a single "both wheels" wheel brake. Works ok but the middle pedal is heavier sprung as its meant to be a brake pedal, but it works.......

If you press the radar toggle button while tracking a target with IRST, that would IFF the target without actually alerting it on RWR.
Is that right? Didn't know that, thought the simple act of turning the radar on put it into a detectable mode.

Good post.
It's the coolest looking bird in DCS in my view.
I love the Soviet design cues, am a big fan of brutalist architechture and the function as form aesthetic.
I'd buy a FF Mig 29 on day one and could easily get lost in learning it, the same thing I did with the L-39, when starting out, oddly enough.
If you want help with that server idea, I'll give you a hand, I enjoy battling and mainly losing to the AI but online multiplayer is superb in the other Sims/Games I've done in the past; (GPL,CS 1.6, CS:GO, IRacing etc.)
You'd have a sizeable audience with newcomers but I can see issues with "Vulching" veterans taking the mickey by loitering around airfields to splash wobbling learners.

@BIGNEWY Whilst your community work is great and this update is appreciated, the response has worn thinner than a thin thing on Thinday in Thinville.
The reason they are busy is because they've been given new projects before finishing the Yak. Repeating that response now just makes it WORSE.
It is a fun aircraft but the immersion factor is through the floor. (You clearly also know this.)
I know that you personally say that you keep bringing it up with the devs, but you are being ignored and so are we. It's very poor form and honestly it takes the "Mickey" out of those of us who have been waiting a very very very long time for what appear to be simple issues to resolve.
You are being professionally embarassed on this issue and it is time to do something to move the problem up the chain of command, going over the head of whoever is blocking a resolution, if you have to. If it is coming from the top then a written apology would be an excellent starting point.
Being a customer care professional at one time myself, I cannot understand, from an E.D. corporate standpoint, how senior management are willing to allow this nonesense to continue to damage their reputation. At the very least, it is time for E.D. to hold their hands up and begin some form of customer care resolution initiative, with regard to this missold product, (it IS starting to have a strong whiff of abandonware.) I.e. OFFER of a refund/free single engine prop module of choice/something/ANYTHING but a continuation of the fobbing off of Yak 52 module owners.
You can't keep flogging the same dead horse forever, well you can, but it just looks ridiculous.
Rather than just "moaning" I will clarify so that you have something sensible to take to management:
Context:
The release trailer date is 3 Aug 2018. (3 yrs & 5 months, 41 months or 1246 days.) "W.I.P" or E.A. is part E.D business model but is being devalued by Yak 52
Right now the Yak is 2nd item down on the DCS/Home/Products/Planes web page https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/planes/index.php?PAGEN_1=2
Some examples of inaccurate text on the Yak "Details" page are:
1:The DCS: Yak-52 provides a realistic pilot training progression......
2:Detailed and realistic simulation of post-stall behavior that allows edge-of and out-of-envelope maneuvers. (Until you hit the ground or another object.)
3:Complete systems modelling of the Yak-52 that includes the engine, fuel, electrical and pneumatic systems. (How long can a real Yak run with its temps in the red?)
4:Cooperative multiplayer. Fly with a friend in the same aircraft. (Great! just not online, people avoid servers with the Yak because of its weaponised airframe.)
Not much else needs saying after watching that does it? Please don't try to mug us off any more:
Mr Grey, THIS, is all well and good BUT has a "believe by" date in the eyes of your Yak 52 CUSTOMERS:
Enough is surely enough now.
I hope others will chime in, in support, otherwise we might as well all just accept what we have now and realise we have been taken for fools.
Thank you.
Yours Sincerely,
RDG

Wow I need to delve deeper into Taiwan. What a mess!
Defacto a country - Civil war, hold territory, no peace treaty.
UN Non Country - Only 14 Nations recognising it. USA, UK, E.U. not recognising it.
Defo no ED Taiwan map coming any century soon........
-
Alright then, no I'm certainly not disregarding anyones point, just trying to get my head round it. I'm missing your point and quoting the bit ofwhat you wrote that doesnt seem to hold for Afghanistan. ED aren't ignoring that region if the Bagram coordinates easter egg is to be believed.
So ok USA and "Russia" never fought each other in Afghanistan or Korea to be fair and Taiwan is a China issue nothing to do with "Russia", conflict wise at least.
Or are you getting into semantics over "Speculation" and "Officialy"?
Im not trying to argue against your "ED avoid the politically sensitive" point its probably correct but Afghanistan content is surely just as sensitive, if not more than so Taiwan.

It's just my speculation but ED being Russian company with US following, they're avoiding regions that both side have political interest in. Korea and Taiwan for example.
What I was saying is that you can't really make that argument for an Afghanistan map though. They both still have a (geo)political interest there whether official or not.
Why has the Yak had no updates
in DCS: Yak-52
