  1. Hmmm,, starting to look like my strategy in the instant action mission may be all wrong. Any of you have FC3/2024? I’m working with A-10A instant action Close Air Support. My plan is to attack/eliminate the helo’s (armed), then move on to deal with the enemy ground forces. Has anyone tried that mission? Is there a better strategy I should be using? thanks again for the assistance, orby
  2. Hi all,, trying to clarify this a bit, by ‘tied’, I meant that I was utilizing the seeker technology on the AGM-65. Maybe I’m misunderstanding this a bit. Doesn’t the AIM require the AGM to be pinging the enemy target before it can be launched? If not, what is the purpose of the AGM in that A2A fight. BTW, the A10 was providing CAS and going against enemy helicopters. If the AGM isn’t required, then the AIM can be fired completely independently and then chase the opposing heat signal on its own? thanks for helping me better understand this. orby
  3. Hello, Just started working with the wonderful Warthog, so I decided to start with the A-10A from FC2024. Something that has me a bit stumped is the the AIM-9M has a range of approx 18km, while the AGM-65D that it's tied to has range of approx 8-12km. But once I get into A2A mode, I find that I can't get a lock on to the enemy aircraft until I've closed to about 3-4 km. With that, I've completely lost my range advantage, and now I'm working feverishly to escape their AA defenses . Am I missing something? My understanding is the A-10A doesn't have any radar, so it doesn't appear that the aircraft is the cause. Does anyone have any insights as to what I might be doing wrong? Thanks for any assistance, orby
  4. Thanks for clearing that up...much appreciated.
  5. Hello, I was doing some learning on the subject of label distance, and was looking thru the labels.lua file. While there, I came across these mentions in the file… AirOn GroundOn NavyOn WeaponOn I think AirOn & NavyOn refer to aircraft & ships. But I was wondering if someone could clarify GroundOn & WeaponOn. In my mind, most remaining weapons would be ground based, so just trying to understand the difference between the two. Things get a bit messy when ground based weapons like tanks, AA defenses, etc. could be classed as either. thanks, orby
  6. Hello, Earlier this year, I upgraded my PC. When all was set & done, and my testing completed, it all resulted in my having 2 DCS installations. So I’ve kind of found myself using the older setup for testing, & trying new things. My question is.. how can I duplicate my keyboard & joystick settings/bindings in an automated way. I’m thinking along the lines of exporting things from the test machine, and importing them in the newer PC. My joysticks are the same on both machines, so that might make things easier. Thanks for the assistance, orby
  7. TKhaos, in your opinion, should everything related to FC3 be deleted (via account profile) BEFORE proceeding to purchase/install FC2024? I’m starting to think everything w/ DCS might be a lil easier by simply clearing out FC3. FC2024 is relatively inexpensive right now, so might just be worth a try. Thoughts?
  8. I can’t speak re: possible interference by Malwarebytes or McAfee, as I’m running with Windows Defender as my AV tool. But I don’t recall seeing any messages on my side re: possible malware being found. I was running with DCS V2.9.5 (reluctant to upgrade to v296 after reading about the problems). And then magically the authorization problems appeared on my V295 DCS. So, if my DCS version stayed the same with v295, what happened to suddenly trigger the fireworks? Maybe my Windows Defender updated its virus definitions, or maybe DCS did something new on their authorization servers. But either way, we’re not getting any insights from the folks at DCS, other than the vanilla ‘we’re working on it’. Hoping their forensics teams can get to the bottom of this.
  9. That’s certainly on my todo list for resolution of this issue. They certainly are aware of the problem; I’m giving them time to focus and get it right. I would hope they would create a site-wide post with the solution steps.
  10. I certainly hope so. What is quite concerning to me is that this problem is not limited to just FC3, but Afghan & Normandy also. That would indicate that EDS has a much wider problem with how they are handling authorizations. This does not place their QA process under a favorable light. As for myself,, I’ve completely lost 2 individual aircraft, cannot run any missions for either of them, and cannot find a way to individually re-install either of them. Can’t wait to see how EDS resolves my issues. Patience.
  11. Just to be sure,, I didn't see anything re: loadout for the FC3 A-10A CAS Instant Action mission briefing? Am I missing something, or is it hidden somewhere? Thanks for the help,, Much appreciated guys! orby
  12. Thanks... That 2nd one is really nice! I picked up the F/A-18C during the recent DCS Summer Sale, & hoping to get there some day. Speaking of the Huey,, are the rudder pedals pretty much a requirement when trying to fly helo's?
  13. Thanks for the reply. Certainly clears things up. I was flying the FC3 A-10A CAS mission, and was trying to find out how many & what type A2A, only for informational purposes. Surprised there wasn’t something in DCS to see the loadout situation in a view-only mode. But sure am having fun with this. Hoping to get more comfortable with the 'A', then I can go on to the A-10C, followed by one of the fighters, thx, orby
  14. Is it possible to view an aircraft's weapon loadout while in flight? I've read about doing it via ground crew comms, but continue to get no action when I try LAlt+'. And I'd guess that opening the canopy isn't recommended. <grin> thx, orby
  15. Hello, I’m relatively new to DCS & FC3, and have come across a small learning issue. After playing around with the CAS Instant Mission, I was able to get comfortable with launching A-to-G attacks with the Mavericks. However, when I moved to practice some A-A attacks on the helps, I wasn’t able to get much done. After switching to AA mode, I just couldn’t weapon release any missiles. I tried to do a weapon change (D), but nothing came up with that. When I went to check the load out (LAlt+’), I also couldn’t bring up the Rearming screen to see what weapons were loaded. I’m guessing I may be missing something here, so any help would be appreciated. thx, orby
  16. Oh dear,, you're seeing this similar problem with even the newer FC2024 installed? And, my understanding is that you need to be on V296, as it is required for FC2024? Just wondering what might happen if you uninstall/delete all of the legacy FC3 aircraft first, and then -full install- FC2024 again. Starting to become clearer that these issues are specifically tied to the V296 update. Let us know if you make any progress.
  17. I fully agree with you on the avoidance of v296 until these issues with FC3 are clearly resolved. And, yes, your idea of purchase & holding FC2024 might just be the best solution. It would also give us time to explore the idea of fully removing the FC3 aircraft before installing FC2024.
  18. Did you ever proceed & purchase the new FC2024 & install it under DCS V2.9.6? I was considering buying FC2024 for an install under V2.9.5, but the current mayhem going on with FC & DCS 296 has completely scared me off. I’m thinking of just waiting for all of it to clear, but then the current sale on FC2024 would prolly be over. let me know where you stand on things. PostNote: and then I see this, which doesn’t help any… orby
  19. Whew! In that screen (from the new non-Steam V296 launcher), when clicking the highlighted “Available” tab, the next screen shows nothing. (Sigh)
  20. Hi Max, would you have any insights as to how, if possible, one would go about un-installing FC3? Might be considering FC2024 at the sale price, but thinking it might be ‘an abundance of caution’ by removing FC3 and avoiding all this current craziness with FC3 & DCS V2.9.6 upgrade. Bear in mind, I can’t do it thru the Module Manager, as FC3 doesn’t show there as an installed module (part of the V2.9.6 upgrade fiasco) orby
  21. thanks for the reply, but not quite sure I’m following you on this. Where is the ‘upgrade discount’ located for purchase? BTW, I’m working with a regular EShop purchased version. thanks, orby
  22. I also would like to get a clear understanding of whether purchasing the new FC 2024 would resolve this issue. The new version is currently on sale as part of the summer sale. So with new features & enhancements, it might be worth it. But not looking to get into any deeper trouble by mixing in a purchase into this incident. orby
  23. Just an update, that I inserted the binding entries for the canopy into the Mods .lua file, and it worked perfectly. Thanks again for your help! Now that I’ve got it working, it’s time to create a spreadsheet, so that I can keep track of changes that are made. I’m certainly anticipating that updates to DCS will tend to rebuild those files, effectively removing any custom additions/changes. take care.
  24. Hello,, while I cannot help you with a solution to your G13 question, I do find it very interesting. I have a G13, and it didn’t come to mind as a possible hardware solution for new keybinds. Do you use it for any keybinds in your current setup? At worse, this reply may bump your question up to the top of the topic list ! Mike
  25. Hello again,, Thank You for the detailed reply. It certainly makes it easier, and I kind of feel better that it wasn’t a simple solution. I was starting to question myself as to why I couldn’t grasp the solution. But one thing I noticed is that you recommend putting the commands directly into the Mods structure, rather than into the <user>/saved games folder structure. Is there any special reason for that? And finally, kind of off-topic, but a Lua question… I’ve noticed that some commands use a name section with name =_(‘xxxx’), while others I’ve seen do not use the underscore _ Could you possibly explain? Thank You again for the help… you’ve been extremely helpful !! Much appreciated !! Mike
