  1. I'll look into it, but I think full afterburner is already at maximum gain- keep in mind it can only be heard at full volume from the rear. :)
  2. What a coincidence, glad I realised it at the time I did :). That's interesting, are you on the steam or standalone version? If the standalone version, the key is making sure you're in the root DCS directory with the "mods" and "coremods" folders- if you don't see these then it won't be replacing the sound files.
  3. Haha, thank you for your kind words :) Glad you like it, will be working on an update soon.
  4. Thanks, let me know what you think of it when it's installed.

  6. About: This mod provides a complete sound overhaul for the aircraft, including mixing, creating, and editing new sounds from various real life sources, as well as re-writing nearly all the SDEF's (Config files for the how the sound behaves) for both internal, and external sounds. Mods have been produced before, however most are pre DCS 2.5 and are now 4 or 5 years old- they also only really altered dynamics, internal sounds, or external sounds- this mod does all of that, and more! Current key features of this mod include: Improved Internal & External engine sounds for both idle, and mil-thrust. Improved Internal & External afterburner sound. Improved engine surge sound with 5 variants. External sounds are now configured so that the volume changes based on the angle you are "listening" from. Previously, the afterburner (and all other sounds) could be heard from all angles, even the inlet, at the same volume. This mod provides a much more dynamic experience. New internal & external afterburner engage sound effect A complete overhaul of cockpit switch & button sound effects, now includes 28 separate switch recordings from a museum airframe with near one-to-one mapping for each switch type in the real cockpit. 80 Audio samples recorded, to provide variation for switches so each press sounds slightly different, providing a much more immersive and lifelike experience. Future key features of this mod will hopefully include: (Subject to change) Further cockpit recordings from the museum aircraft, I should have these recordings at the end of January/early February. (Currently V3.0 includes some duplicate/lower quality sounds to cover for those I am currently missing.) Planned for V4.0. Improved AC/DC generator/inverter sounds. Planned for V4.0. Improved fuel pump sounds. Planned for V4.0. Add gyro spool up/run/spool down sounds. This is subject to testing, and may require some very janky code to get it to work. There are limitations to what I can do without EFM access. (Maybe V4.0?) New cannon/gun sounds As always all suggestions and feedback welcome, however, it must be understood there are limitations to what can be done without access to the source code. FAQ: Q: Why have the updated switch sounds stopped working after I updated/repaired? The cockpit switch, dial, and button sounds could only be added through modification of coremod lua files. This means that whenever there is an update to the Mig 21, or you verify/run DCS repair you will need to reinstall the coremods section of the mod for the updated switch and button sounds to continue working. Comparatively, all the internal/external engine sounds are installed via saved games and do not require re-install after a DCS update/repair. To get around this issue, use a mod manager like OVGME. Q: Can you add new sounds to the Mig-21 like engine startup/shutdown? No, it is not possible to add new external sounds to the Mig-21 without access to the EFM. It is however possible to add a sound that plays at the beginning of another sound - e.g the afterburner pop sound. Q: Have you contacted the developers? Yes, they are aware the mod exists, however are very busy with their upcoming modules such as the F4U which take priority. Install/Uninstall guide: A readme.txt can be found within the zip file with a copy of the instructions below Install: Close DCS if open. Extract download zip to location of your choice (e.g Desktop). Navigate to your DCS World root folder, for STEAM users it is in C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DCSWorld (Alternatively right click the game in your steam library then properties > local files > browse local files) and for STANDALONE users it is in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta (Or just DCS World if on stable). Select the folder "Mods" from the extracted folder on your desktop (or whatever location you chose) then copy and paste it into the root folder mentioned above. (This is for the cockpit switch and button sounds) When prompted, choose "Replace clickabledata.lua" Select the folder "tech" from the extracted mod zip on your desktop (or whatever location you chose) and copy and paste it into C:\Users\YOURNAME\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta (Or just DCS World if on stable)\Mods (This is for all internal and external engine sounds) Uninstall For standalone - run DCS Repair and make sure "check for modified files" is selected. Then either delete the folder "Nin's Mig-21 Sound Mod V.x" from C:\Users\YOURNAME\Saved Games\DCS(.openbeta)\Mods\tech, or disable the mod through the module manager in DCS. For steam - Right click the game in your steam library then choose "Verify Integrity of game files". Then delete the folder "Nin's Mig-21 Sound Mod V.x" from C:\Users\YOURNAME\Saved Games\DCS(.openbeta)\Mods\tech. Comparison Video: COMING SOON Ex Czech Air Force MiG-21 UM 516909011: Version 3.0 of this mod would not have been possible without help from "Sandman" at the Osterreichisches Luftfahrtmuseum, Graz, Austria. He very kindly offered to record videos of him in the cockpit of their MiG-21 UM for me to then sample for this version of the sound mod. There were no existing recordings that I could find, and I am very grateful for his hard work. This means you are getting an even more accurate, true to life, representation of how the real aircraft sounds. The airframe used was moved to the museum from a sports club in Salzburg, Germany, in 2015. You can read about the move here. Sandman has also very kindly offered to continue to support the mod, and will be recording some more videos of the museums MiG-21 MF, which will allow me to add in the switches and buttons that are currently missing (Nose gear brake selector, secondary/primary pitot selector, etc) - I should have these recordings within the next 3-4 weeks or so, and they should be ready for V4.0.
