I think the DCS platform/engine is good for civilian aircraft...but it's going to have a hard time competing with civilian sims since they model the whole world and DCS has only a few areas.

I don't consider concern from customers about being restricted to play the titles they payed for with a new DRM as "meaningless". There is a lot of "noise" in the thread but there are some valid concerns as well.

Just to clarify a point Skate...Steam's login based DRM works pretty well, but they have an unlimited offline mode. I don't know if this creates a rampant piracy problem...I wouldn't think so or they would change it. This doesn't include any layers of Developer DRM on top. I have had Steam in offline mode for months before. It was necessary as it wanted to update my IL-2 1946 past what the mods I had installed supported.

Geez...that's a little over dramatic. Nobody's suggesting that ED have no DRM and give every module away for free. Just something that's not so intrusive and might hamper the ability to play the modules they have purchased. You can "feel" the hostility towards the customers concerned about their up to $800 investment in ED's products and their ability to play them with ED changing the DRM/terms. I would guess the new DRM will be required for the Hornet for sure. It reminds me of EA's much awaited Battlefield 3 release...they required you to install and agree to their new Origin client to play the game.

The new features that can come with the new DRM have some good upsides...there is a concern about the flip side of giving them full control however. They would now have the ability to suspend/revoke your ability to play the modules you purchased quite easily...just like suspending your ability to use the forums. I think it would be disastrous for them to do so...but anything is possible.

And if you're offline...how does this work? How long can you be "offline" with the current Starforce DRM before it forces you to go online and verify keys?

Are you serious? Have you ever seen a millennial without their phone/electronics while on vacation? Bringing some comforts of home while being in an isolated area is not uncommon. That doesn't mean you're on it 24/7 while on vacation. Maybe every few days winding down in the cabin or whatever. lol...looks like you edited your previous response about vacation being b.s. The quote changed to your edited version when I pressed it. My response was to your un-edited post.

True enough. Polls usually only have a small sample size though. Any country poll only samples a small group that represents the larger populous...so the poll has done it's job I would think. 90 days will probably be a bit too long for ED but I think 30 days would be the sweet spot. Especially if the current DRM phones home once a month or so anyway...it would be more seamless since it's already being done. (more or less) It's probably rare for someone to be without internet for 30 days. The 14 day option...well...people have been know to take 2 week vacations and bring their gaming laptops with them. Would be nice to have access to your modules in that scenario.

It's a bit of a stretch to say there are 60,000 active forum members...given that the viewing numbers are usually in the teens or lower for threads. I Imagine moving the poll from the popular DCS World General section to the seldom viewed Payments and Activation area helped limit the number of votes.

Transfer of keys between accounts is suspended

I mean it didn't seem widespread. You gave a specific example of the problem...when making a point one usually gives their best example and you said: A person that has violated the terms and "borrowed" a friends key to showcase a DCS product on his youtube page ...that could possibly lead to more sales...doesn't seem like a reason to hit the panic button and stop the majority of folks that were honoring the terms just fine. There is a simmer that was going to give his modules that he is done with away for free...but can't now. It seems that a person that wants to show goodwill to his fellow flight simmers by giving away something he's paid for is what I mean by "punish". If the new gift system allows the above goodwill type of gestures to continue...then great. -

It sure seems like the "many" are being punished from the actions of a "few". With no indication of how widespread this "abuse" was occurring...one would have to think it's relatively small in the overall scheme of things. I'm not sure how the new gifting scheme will work...but I have to imagine it will be geared toward purchasing new (full price) modules to give to someone. Is there any indication if you will be able to "gift" a module you are completely done with to someone that can use it under the new gift system? -
I voted for Dynamic Campaign. But what I'm really after is more or less a career system. Being in a squadron with wingmen that have names, a squadron kill board, medals, a chance to move up in rank...etc. Making a campaign truly dynamic can be a daunting task...so more like dynamic mission assignments within a career system is what I'm trying to say. It would breathe new life into the modules owned IMO.

I was doing a fast mission for the Huey and after I crash landed I was looking around with F2 and saw an A-10 in the preparing to land with the wheels missing. Here's a link to pics (the last 4 pics in my post): http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4177464/Re:_DCS_World_Open_Beta_1.5_is#Post4177464

Managed to get my password working and all seems well. No action needs to be taken.
