  1. I think the DCS platform/engine is good for civilian aircraft...but it's going to have a hard time competing with civilian sims since they model the whole world and DCS has only a few areas.
  2. I don't consider concern from customers about being restricted to play the titles they payed for with a new DRM as "meaningless". There is a lot of "noise" in the thread but there are some valid concerns as well.
  3. Just to clarify a point Skate...Steam's login based DRM works pretty well, but they have an unlimited offline mode. I don't know if this creates a rampant piracy problem...I wouldn't think so or they would change it. This doesn't include any layers of Developer DRM on top. I have had Steam in offline mode for months before. It was necessary as it wanted to update my IL-2 1946 past what the mods I had installed supported.
  4. Geez...that's a little over dramatic. Nobody's suggesting that ED have no DRM and give every module away for free. Just something that's not so intrusive and might hamper the ability to play the modules they have purchased. You can "feel" the hostility towards the customers concerned about their up to $800 investment in ED's products and their ability to play them with ED changing the DRM/terms. I would guess the new DRM will be required for the Hornet for sure. It reminds me of EA's much awaited Battlefield 3 release...they required you to install and agree to their new Origin client to play the game.
  5. The new features that can come with the new DRM have some good upsides...there is a concern about the flip side of giving them full control however. They would now have the ability to suspend/revoke your ability to play the modules you purchased quite easily...just like suspending your ability to use the forums. I think it would be disastrous for them to do so...but anything is possible.
  6. And if you're offline...how does this work? How long can you be "offline" with the current Starforce DRM before it forces you to go online and verify keys?
  7. Are you serious? Have you ever seen a millennial without their phone/electronics while on vacation? Bringing some comforts of home while being in an isolated area is not uncommon. That doesn't mean you're on it 24/7 while on vacation. Maybe every few days winding down in the cabin or whatever. lol...looks like you edited your previous response about vacation being b.s. The quote changed to your edited version when I pressed it. My response was to your un-edited post.
  8. True enough. Polls usually only have a small sample size though. Any country poll only samples a small group that represents the larger populous...so the poll has done it's job I would think. 90 days will probably be a bit too long for ED but I think 30 days would be the sweet spot. Especially if the current DRM phones home once a month or so anyway...it would be more seamless since it's already being done. (more or less) It's probably rare for someone to be without internet for 30 days. The 14 day option...well...people have been know to take 2 week vacations and bring their gaming laptops with them. Would be nice to have access to your modules in that scenario.
  9. It's a bit of a stretch to say there are 60,000 active forum members...given that the viewing numbers are usually in the teens or lower for threads. I Imagine moving the poll from the popular DCS World General section to the seldom viewed Payments and Activation area helped limit the number of votes.
  10. I mean it didn't seem widespread. You gave a specific example of the problem...when making a point one usually gives their best example and you said: A person that has violated the terms and "borrowed" a friends key to showcase a DCS product on his youtube page ...that could possibly lead to more sales...doesn't seem like a reason to hit the panic button and stop the majority of folks that were honoring the terms just fine. There is a simmer that was going to give his modules that he is done with away for free...but can't now. It seems that a person that wants to show goodwill to his fellow flight simmers by giving away something he's paid for is what I mean by "punish". If the new gift system allows the above goodwill type of gestures to continue...then great.
  11. It sure seems like the "many" are being punished from the actions of a "few". With no indication of how widespread this "abuse" was occurring...one would have to think it's relatively small in the overall scheme of things. I'm not sure how the new gifting scheme will work...but I have to imagine it will be geared toward purchasing new (full price) modules to give to someone. Is there any indication if you will be able to "gift" a module you are completely done with to someone that can use it under the new gift system?
  12. I voted for Dynamic Campaign. But what I'm really after is more or less a career system. Being in a squadron with wingmen that have names, a squadron kill board, medals, a chance to move up in rank...etc. Making a campaign truly dynamic can be a daunting task...so more like dynamic mission assignments within a career system is what I'm trying to say. It would breathe new life into the modules owned IMO.
  13. I was doing a fast mission for the Huey and after I crash landed I was looking around with F2 and saw an A-10 in the preparing to land with the wheels missing. Here's a link to pics (the last 4 pics in my post): http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4177464/Re:_DCS_World_Open_Beta_1.5_is#Post4177464
  14. Managed to get my password working and all seems well. No action needs to be taken.
  15. I can't login to digitalcombatsimulator.com to change my password. Apparently...I can't remember what it is even though I don't remember changing it. Even if I could...if collecting an email from ED by me is required to change the password...it's a no go since their emails aren't getting through.
  16. I understand Sith. I don't know if this helps at all...but my login works fine in 1.2.16: I don't remember doing a recovery for my password in the past...but it's possible since what I'm entering appears to be wrong in Beta 1.5. Since it appears AT&T has blacklisted emails from ED...it may be the path of least resistance if the webmaster could just pm me my password here at the forum instead of going through the hassle of working around this AT&T problem (assuming that's the issue). Just an idea.
  17. I know you guys are probably super busy...but is there a chance I can get this resolved by the weekend? Being locked out of my modules is super frustrating. :helpsmilie:
  18. Thanks Sith! I'm guessing it's an At&t thing...they seem to be blacklist happy. I have created another email address as I've had this problem with them blacklisting legit sites before. I can't login to use the support ticket system since not being able to login is my support problem...lol 1.5 is looking and working great on my rig...looking forward to flying my modules when I get this issue squared away. Cheers!
  19. Hello, I downloaded the 1.5 beta...at the login it was telling me my password/username was incorrect. After a couple of attempts...I initiated the forgot password process. It tells me that an email has been sent and when I check my email...nothing is showing up. There is nothing in my spam folder either and I'm receiving other emails just fine. It's possible AT&T has blacklisted stuff from ED as it has a .ru domain. Can you check and see if you are getting a bounce back on my password reset emails please? I have created another email address that I can switch my DCS credentials to if neccessary. I can pm my email address but it is the same address that this forum ID is using. Thank You!
  20. I have been trying to do a password reset since the beta is saying my credentials aren't correct...it says email has been sent but after a couple of tries and a couple hours...no email received. Nothing in the spam folder either.
  21. There really is a point where devoted fanboism and dev worship is counter-productive to the community when an innocent question can't be asked without the pitchforks coming out…as bongo has illustrated here. That's a shame, as I hoped this might have been something learned from previous experiences. :(
  22. I think what the OP is saying is that he wants a good benchmarking test. Using a campaign mission might not be good for that because I would think there are triggers that create some sort of randomness to them so they don't fly exactly the same all the time. Meaning, it might spawn more or less units depending on how the mission is built. That's bad for benchmarking because it's always changing. Especially if your trying to measure if your picking up 4-10 frames more or less. The falcon benhcmark was a single mission that started you in the air and you made yourself invulnerable and select the autopliot the second you started it. The mission was built to have the exact same units and variables every time you tested it
  23. You read my mind. Earlier during testing I tried to enable vsync in the ATI CCC but I have not seen vsync work in this control panel since they changed the setting to a slider instead of just a tick box. I was able to smooth out game play in Arma 2 by using a 3rd party FPS limiter since the ATI control panel is useless. I will try your method as soon as I can wrangle the rig out of my sons hands, he's playing Order of War right now.:noexpression: Thanks!
  24. I tried a few things from the suggestions so here we go. I ran real temp while playing a mission with some action and it reported the hottest it got was 54 degrees C. I was pretty sure it would be fine, when I was establishing my overclock I used the Prime95 torture test to put at full load to get a stable & cool overclock. The airflow in these monster Alienware cases is pretty good so I think the weather isnt an issue. I turned off the 3 A's...AA,AF and AI. It seemed the stutter was about every 10 to 15 seconds instead of every 5... hard to tell how much it improved because stutter is difficult to monitor with accuracy. It was still there..but even that small improvement isnt enough for me to play with the jaggies and lose those great graphics. I disabled the soundmax device in the device manager to test with no sound and no go. The Launcher.exe would error out and not let me launch the game. I think it is having an issue with the music that starts playing before the game window even opens up. I tried restarts etc. but couldnt get it to fire. I disabled the sound in game instead, on the audio tab but it didnt do anything...I didnt think it would cause the device drivers are still loaded in windows. The keyboard being a possible issue is a stretch I think...I dont have another one to test with anyway, but chances are its fine since other sims are fine with it. I benchmarked a mission track with FRAPS..it was the defense one i think? I am on my daughters laptop right now so I dont have the exact numbers but it was something like Min 43 Avg 81 Max 142. Good frames but stutter was apparent every few seconds. I am getting the feeling that its my hard drive. I defrag often but I have alot of data on there and Vista takes FOREVER to defrag. I havent tried My Defrag yet..but I had Game Booster defrag the DCS folder. Anyway...since there are not a bunch of peeps that have the same problem as me, my rig must have a gremlin in it somewhere. Thanks for the suggestions!:D
