  1. Took a quick look: Pitot heat is missing

As stated - this start up is as per the lesson in-sim, and as they don't refer to pitot heat in that, it's not in this diagram.:

This routine was taken directly from the Start-Up training mission and it works in the other missions, where you start from the ramp.

I have checked today as I continue to read through the manual, and the training start-up differs in several ways from the one described in the 'Aircraft Start-Up Procedures' section of the manual (from page 425).

However, this one does work and will get you flying very quickly. The manual version from p425 has more detail in regards to systems preparation and set-up.

  2. Ground targets are nearly always a bitch to find in FC2.

Scanning with the IR is the best option if you really can't see them, but know roughly where to look.

If you read BeachAV8R's A-10A Campaign AARs at SimHQ he points this out quite definitively.

  3. Hmm, thanks for this - I'll have a gander.

btw - v2.5.7 is now out and includes noo stuff, too.

PS - I have only just bought A-10C, so know pretty much nowt about it - but will definitely do a VAC profile, too, in time - so if SH has given up on it - there will be another one, in time.

You can DL my other profiles (FC2, BS, F4:AF vox comms, SF2 comms etc) at the VAC forum/download site.

  4. I had a fantastic time with BF2 - it was great, despite the cheats and bugs and poor technical simulation. I lived for that game for a long time and as an ex-soldier myself it even brought back something that I'd been missing since becoming a civvy (teamwork and camaraderie) in the excellent clan I was in.

We changed to CoD4, which was initially fun, but staled very quickly.

The clan reformed with a server for BF:BC2, but again, it didn't last. I had only two really enjoyable rounds in that and it has remained uninstalled since.

OPF Dragon Rising showed promise, but again, was a rubbish console game, like so many now and I have given up.

Yeah, BF3 vids look nice (why the hell do I have to be a yank again! like they are the only people in uniform) but I'm sure it will just be another in the seemingly endless line of console rejects.

I understand the problem for PC only releases - piratism is very widespread these days - but that doesn't mean the games have to suck so bad.

And until they get their butts in gear and put head tracking and voice control as standard parts of modern games, I'll stick to flying (and motor racing :D ).

PS - regarding MechWarrior - got MW2 3Dfx with my first Voodoo card and luvved it! Still have it in fact - but it won't work without the 3Dfx bit :(

  5. Hi Guys

this problem is driving me to the looney bin!

I'm using FC2 patched up to the latest FC only(but not the one that lets you mp with BS as I have issues with that) - I'm on my netbook so don't have access to the patch number.

I have just returned to FC after some months away (again) due to some frustrations (again) with the way things work.

Anyway, I'm flying the training missions as a way of easing back into things - where you can attack four trucks and four SPGs at a lake nearby.

Every weapon works just fine, except my Vikhrs, which just flat refuse to launch.

I can do a run-in, launch a 25ML, turn around and run-in again with Vikhr and nothing happens.

I have gone through the training videos and manual - several times - and spent hours yesterday trying to launch Vikhrs at those targets. It just wouldn't work.

If I wasn't able to fire anything would be one thing, but every missile working except Vikhr is very strange.

    Any ideas welcome.

  6. Hi, i have windows 7/64bits and i try to install Flaming Cliffs v1.1 (CD version) over Lock-on (CD version). When i restart my computer a message inform me that StarForce driver protection (v 3.6.10.3) is not compatible with my OS. If i launch Lock-on 1.1 a StarForce windows ask me if i want to restart to finish installation. Choosing restart a this time does not unlock anything.

The patch 1.12b install the StarForce v.3.7.19.4. but seems not to be compatible with W7. Does some W7 user have succeed to resolve this issue?

    Thanks for your answers.

I had this issue, too, and I have FC2, but prefer 1.12 and all the mods/missions I have for it. I also find my G940 works very well in FC1 but not so good in FC2 :)

I had been trying to install FC for a while, then gave up and went back to LOMAC 102 - but now I have FC in and am enjoying designing some new missions.

Anyone else struggling with FC installation in Win7 (I have 64 bit...), I followed this advice from another post and it worked just fine:

Important: Every step needs to be executed with Administrator privileges! Otherwise, some needed modules won't be installed.

    1. Install Lockon 1.0 (Close the autorun screen and start the installer by hand from Windows Explorer)

    2. Install Flaming Cliffs (Close the autorun screen and start the installer by hand from Windows Explorer)

    3. Install Patch 1.12b for "LockOn 1.1: Flaming Cliffs" simulator

    4. Start Lockon and reboot when instructed. After rebooting, ignore the message that the Starforce driver is disabled.

    5. Install the Starforce Update

    6. Reboot

Now you can start Flaming Cliffs using your regular user privileges.

  7. Well, I used to have it set up that way, too - but I found it quite awkward and so I swapped it over.

Usually when I'm using the Shkval I'm in autohover with 'turn on target' engaged, so it doesn't matter if there's such a small movement of the stick. It can't move that much with full FFB on, anyway.

I use the one on the throttle as a 4-way switch, with x23/x7 and incr/decr target size on the two axes, plus the weapon station selections on the shifted axes - works well.

  8. Good and helpful discussion going on here.

I now have my G940 set up to my liking, using some of the info provided here and then personal adjustments 'to taste' :)

The thing that frustrated me the most with it (I've had it about 6 weeks, so had all the latest soft/firmware from the start) was that, although I could see it was much better than my X52 in BS, I had not yet cracked the trimming system.

I never saw anything that told me the right way to do it - just stuff saying what it does.

It was only thanks to the 10th Producers' Notes video that I finally cracked it, and now I'm really enjoying my BS flying - instead of being continually frustrated and 'fighting' the thing around the missions.

Now I can concentrate on implementing the systems to their full capacity (again, thanks to the producers tute vids, which I have put onto a DVD and watch on my telly ;) ).

If anyone still isn't sure - the thing is to press the trimmer button (S4 on my stick), attain the attitude that you want and only then release the trimmer button.

For a year, I had been instantaneously pressing and releasing - so no wonder I had issues!

If anyone has doubts about the G940 - it is without doubt the best HOTAS I've come across. The FFB makes so much difference, but even apart from that, it's excellent. The wheels on the throttle are very accurate for fixed-wing trimming and the D-pad button on the stick is excellent for Shkval control. I use it in FSX, too - but it needs to be reset between changing profiles, I find, otherwise it can seem terrible.

However, I'm not as convinced with it in FC2.

  9. In the "Axis commands" section for the aircraft you want to set up, one of the commands you can assign is Zoom. Make sure that's got the correct TrackIR axis assigned to it. If you have a few controllers you'll need to scroll across to the right to see the TrackIR column.

That's what I did, but the zoom action is only a small portion of the axis line.

    In-sim, it's barely noticable.

On the aircraft where I use my X52 rotator for zoom, it's much more effective.

I initially set the slider, but it's got a bit choppy (probably dusty contacts) so I use the Y rotator now, which works well enough - but it would be so much better to use the TrackIR for it.

I'll give it another go after installing the patch and see what happens.

    Thanks for input :)

    JD

  10. belay that - can't find this option anywhere - not in TIR or FC2.

No 'z-displacement' or 'zoom' option

Using TrakIR 4 Pro and v4137 software.

    So I'm stumped :helpsmilie:

    JD

  11. Yeah. Go to your control settings, axis tune, and switch trackir z-axis from z-displacement to zoom.

Thanks! I've been searching in my TrackIR control box for half an hour to try and find this!

Now I will go into FC2 and do it instead!

    ...it's my age.... :(

  12. I use my X52 rotaries for trim in all Sims possible - but recently the performance dropped off and caused me some very scary moments.

The 'juddering' movement was noticable in the Windows game controller panel.

I opened up the throttle part (just the top, not the base) and squirted some lubricant into them. They are modern, fully-enclosed type of potentiometer - but there are a couple of small gaps where the lube will get in.

Since then it has been back to stable performance.

  13. I found the keys for that, but they don't work.. Any help?:pilotfly:

One thing that caught me out with changing targets and waypoints etc, was that, firstly the key has changed from FC1, and secondly, I think it's based on a US keyboard - on my keyboard it shows `, not tilde ~.

It was the same for some other commands such as the score board, which on my keyboard (UK) is the # key.

So make sure you take this into account, too.

    JD

  14. Yeah - I found the Su-33 steering extremely sensitive - not only that, but the nosewheel doesn't actually turn. From external view it looks terrible - like a 10 year old sim.

I'll look for that adjustment for the feel, though.
