Now, that's a descent idea. What's the advantage of running the Android App?

Now we're getting somewhere.. good info ZaltysZ. Thanks.
US limits export of HPC (high performance computers) depending on how much operations they can do per second (MTOPS). Intel 486DX4@100Mhz should be at 70-80 MTOPS. MTOPS limit went from 195 to 2000 in 1993, and 486DX4 is a 1994 product, so it never has been a HPC. -
Call Dell and tell them you want to buy a PC that you're sending to a country under trade sanction or export control. Sure, they go through Dubai and France from time to time.. and it would be impossible to completely contain tech creep, but we do a decent job of controlling sales of even small orders to those countries. The sale of a large shipment of CPUs to a controlled country is unlikely.
Russia has engineers that are every bit as capable as US engineers (more so in some areas) so they don't need US components. Again, I don't want this to be political. I'm merely curious as to whether there was artistic license taken with the ABRIS boot sequence, or if the 486DX4 was actually used. It's technical curiosity not political indignation.

See OP for new file.
NEW VERSION ATTACHED TO OPFurther refinement of the profile. Added a string of commands that clears the radio menu before each ATC command. There were contextual issues (F2 means something else if you're inbound landing FI) that this resolves. I made this a standalone command as well, just say 'Clear Coms' if you need to reset the radio menu. Also added Ground Crew commands and reformatted the reference and added PNG and XLS to the ZIP.

Yeah you're right Bit.. truth is stranger than fiction. I was in CICs during the cold war and was surprised at some of what I heard.. from many angles. Interesting times.
Are you asserting that Intel is a Malaysian company.. or that Intel's security was so lax that the KGB was able to steal thousands of chips? Of course they weren't manufactured in America, what is? :)
I'm still hoping that someone who knows facts will reply with something conclusive about whether the 486DX4 Intel chip is/was actually in the Blackshark. Curiosity gnaws at me.

You're talking about Time on Target (TOT). This is used in military operations to coordinate simultaneous attacks by disparate assets. I don't think the ABRIS provides this information. I believe approximate TOT is achieved by speed constraints given in mission briefings. The ABRIS does however, give you continuously calculated estimated time of arrival for each waypoint. You'll find this on the NAV page for the current and next steerpoints, as well as calculated time for each steerpoint on the PLAN page.

No doubt, there is historical precedence for tech creep across borders, but there are U.S. trade restrictions in place these days aimed at preventing it.. my question is: Does the Blackshark actually have a 486DX4, and is it actually an Intel chip? Just curious. That's an awful lot of work for a 100mhz processor to tackle.
-
When the ABRIS boots it shows the chip as a 486DX4. This is an intel designator. Is this accurate? Was intel able to sell hardware to the Russian Military?
EDIT: Clarification; as text is a poor medium to convey human emotion, let me say that this is stated with no political motivation or disapproval.. it's simple scientific curiosity from someone who previously worked with U.S. Military technology in the 90s that may have had a similar chip.

I think it's important to fully understand the subject before you post. This problem is that the NAV page loses orientation after using ERBL. If this is the way the Blackshark works IRL, it's either an engineering limitation or is bugged as well.

What I mean is.. if you're looking out of the cockpit.. chances are you're seeing the HUD predominately. It's frequently viewed so requires appropriate attention. These are warplanes and there's nothing more important than situational awareness (eyes up is the reason they place appropriate data in the HUD). I'm sure that if ED plans to make adjustments, they'll have the access and talent they need to make it happen, they're fairly sierra hotel.. but if we gather some conclusive information for them it may be further incentive.

Grimes, is there any advantage to using 'Late Activation' rather than 'Start Time'/2, or are they completely equal in function? I'm seeking optimization for a mission with a lot of units.

Yes, I ended up using a SP1 for the Abris.. it looks better.
I found another nice feature where the SP3 serving up the Shval display can double as a kneeboard. I set OneNote up behind the Shval display.. when I want to take notes I alt+tab to bring OneNote in front of the Shval Display.. then I can write on the SP3 like a kneeboard. Then just alt+tab back to DCS.

Awesome, thanks Snoopy! Conclusive information instead of conjecture is always good. Perhaps you can look at the HUD from different perspectives and describe whether the theories in this thread are correct since pics are unlikely. The more information the better. Sorry to trouble you with this. I know you're probably busy as hell, but the HUD is arguably the most important object in the sim to render accurately since we view it more than anything else while in flight.. and I'm hoping they'll make some corrections when they update it for Oculus.

I had a few spare Surface Pro 3s laying around so I decided to see if I could port my shval and abris over to them. I ended up using TeamViewer (because of multiple simultaneous controlling connections), Helios, and Windows Magnifier.
Just:
- Set up your Helios on a secondary monitor
- TeamView(free) in with each of your Surface Pros
- Open Windows Magnifier on each SP3 and zoom in to the areas you want to use (landscape or portrait, doesn't matter)
Enjoy touch capability on some very nice displays.
Oh.. also, if you use the 'invert colors' capability within Magnifier the Shval looks like FLIR heh

Yeah, I'm really pleased with the app. Be sure to check out my prepared VAC profile. If you create all the possible wingman commands, there's quite a lot of them. My profile will at least be a solid foundation. Luck to you.
PS> I did purchase VAC. It is very Inexpensive and therefore well worth trying.I love the idea of "dictating" voice/radio commands (having been a Dragon Naturally Speaking user from the early or mid 1990's).
I hope to read up and start programming (setting up) VAC over the next week or so.

I think they're going to have to address the HUD ratio, resolution, and perspective for the Oculus anyway. Maybe we can provide the devs with some conclusive points on how the HUD diverges from a realistic and/or usable view to give them some preemptive intel.
Can you weigh in on this Snoopy.. are you still Crew Chief on the Warthog? Maybe you could speak with a pilot about any challenges they have with the HUD? A few pictures from different positions and perspectives would rock if you can get authorization and you can find the time. If nothing else maybe with the HUD test text showing?

You can convert pro profiles to standard. This is from the profile thread:

Good to see you too Snoopy! I hope you and your family are well. I've always been reading the boards but work has had me too busy to be really active. You know me though.. I can never pass up a good RTFM.:book:
Good to see you still around old friend! -
Try this prebuilt x52 profile. A lot of people say they love it. It comes with full instructions and a control diagram.

I've been revisiting the Blackshark lately.. and working in the editor a bit. After I'm done revisiting my 2nd favorite girl, I'll venture back to my first love, Ms. Warthog. I haven't been online.. but I'm sure I will shortly. I just ordered the Oculus DK2.. I suspect Data Intelligence will take a backseat to Warthog once I get it setup.
cold start up
in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark

There was previously some talk of making ramp start an option in the Mission Planner that's selectable before each mission. I'm not sure if they scrapped the idea or delayed it. I'd like to see this happen too.
If you're determined to make it happen manually, the editor really is pretty easy to use. If you're not familiar, here's how:
(NOTE: I'd save a copy of the mission before editing it, but if you do run into trouble you can just delete the mission and the updater will replace it.)
- Select Mission Editor from the DCS main menu
- Open the individual mission from the Campaign from X:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\Ka-50
\Missions\EN\Campaigns.
- Mission time is accessed via the 4th icon down, 'Create Mission Briefing'
- INU Points are accessed by selecting the aircraft, then the 5th icon over, 'INU Fix Point'
Luck to you.
