  1. late coming back to the thread and corrected my response to 'crank' rather than 'false start'
  2. i voted for the last option... however, i think it is perfectly legitimate to point out the fact that the KA-50 was, in full battle scenarios, to be used with the more modern/higher computing power (if you can put it that way) KA-52...so in many scenarios...we are asking, or get asked to do tasks that were not the primary design of the aircraft...and typically that means it will do it poorly... having a second crew member with the proper equipment...or the presence of KA-52s on the battlefield really would change the effectiveness of the KA-50 a great deal...in many cases it would be more like playing with the labels on...
  3. if you quickly start an engine and shut it down it will be flooded with fuel and you will need to dry start it using the crank start option on the toggle switch by the APU-L-R selector switch. it will run the engine for about 15-20 seconds and clear it of any fuel...then it should start...
  4. haha...i did this same thing just for kicks...honestly was easier than i thought it would be.
  5. im sure you are slammed with VFAT stuff all of the time...if i do choose to go the live route, i would appreciate advice since you are surely the expert. thanks!
  6. i was on their site watching the replays of former shows...and that is a very impressive group! i would love to work with anyone from that team...but i am so new to the community side of sims that i really dont have any contacts or relationships with anyone. so any help is appreciated.
  7. i certainly have no problem with doing something live and really making an event of it. i just wanted to be as inclusive as possible, knowing that schedules vary greatly for people. perhaps submitted tracks open to everyone as the 'qualifiers' and the semi-final or finals broadcast live? i also think the team/squad event idea is a great one. i do not know too much about livestream, or even the mission builder and what its full potential is. if anyone is wanting/willing to help me with this project just shoot me a PM.
  8. interesting....i am pretty sure that while viewing the track i was always in the 3rd person view...but i will certainly keep note of that for next time.
  9. due to the differences of play times and time zones i was thinking of making it as a mission that could be downloaded and played at your convenience. if there was indeed some interest we could set a deadline to email me your tracks, and i could record them and upload a video and publish the results. the events i described are just ideas...if people like them then we could do a sign up thread or something...or if someone has some ideas for other events, this is a good place to bat that around. ultimately i hope that it is a both a fun and learning experience for everyone since it will be very interesting to see the method that other pilots approach common tasks.
  10. this might belong in the tracks/missions/campaigns forum...but it is just a concept at the moment and not really any of those things... anyway...i was thinking that it might be fun if we did some sort of DCS: Blackshark rodeo or skills competition. basically create a mission file for different events, all in the spirit of fun, and then share the tracks and compare, crowning a winner in each 'event'. some examples of what i am talking about is having a set number of trucks in a field and a fixed load out of say 40 rockets. each pilot will take off and have say 3min or until the end of their armament to kill as many trucks as they can, then land again within the time frame. winner would be determined by who got the most kills with the 40 rockets and landed their bird safely within the specified amount of time. a non combat, pilot type competition would be landing on the back of a moving frigate within a time frame...winner determined who can do it the quickest without damaging the chopper. a shuttle run: leave from one airfield, land at a FARP, change load-out, land at another FARP, change load-out again, land back at airfield...again, maximum time allotment and quickest undamaged ka-50 pilot to complete the shuttle run wins. anyway, this are just a few off the top of my head, and thought it could be good for laughs as the submissions are posted and timed/judged. any thoughts/comments/interest? think its stupid? really though...who does not want to take part in a rodeo flown with $20,000,000 horses? lol.
  11. so i was training in a self made mission of mine designed to hone rocket and gun skills...very simple setup...convoy of humvees with machine guns on top, and i have to take them out before they reach a certain waypoint. so i am flying and taking enemy fire and some damage, and pull off a pretty cool EXTREMELY low to the ground circle strafe maneuver where i managed to still catch a couple humvees with my cannon. prior to the maneuver i had put my landing gear down in case i hit the deck... to cut to the chase...i pulled off the maneuver and managed to land the bird safely, though heavily damaged...since it was a pretty lucky thing i did not smash into the ground, i wanted to see it in 3rd person glory and be pleased with myself... however, when i went and played back the track, while dropping altitude and strafing, my landing gear caught the turf, rolled the helicopter and exploded next to the convoy... i did not save the track, just thinking it was bugged anyway...so it cannot be further analyzed unfortunately. i was just wondering if anyone had comments on this, or is it just a weird one time occurrence?
  12. On my eyefinity setup I have to put the desktop into mt 3x1 setting (5040x1080 have 22" monitors) then in the game I can select that resolution and then choose 3 screens or 3 with shkval and ebris. When I do it this way then it auto selects the right aspect ratio and don't have any weird zooming or distortion. I hope that is clear. If not I will be happy to explain in more detail or give screenshots. Forgot to mention I have an ATI 5850 using latest drivers and ccc software.
  13. oops! bad first post...
  14. the game has always run very well on my computer, and i can fly for hours without any crashes or other problems (other than the occasional micro-freeze during battle). however, i was playing the Georgian Oil War campaign, the first phase (it is the second option on my campaigns list under 'deployment'). i was trying to start the third mission, and right after i hit the pause key to start the mission, it runs for about 2 seconds then freezes. i can still hear sound and everything, but nothing responds and i have to force windows to kill the game. i tried any number of other missions and flights with no freezing problems of any sort. it is just that mission in the campaign. any ideas? i would like to continue if possible...just strange it is so isolated.
  15. i bought DCS:BS last october and have put in about 30hrs or so flying time. i am finally getting to about the point where i don't have to think too much while flying or operating weapon systems, so i can concentrate on tactics and accomplishing missions more readily. i would also like to get in some multiplayer time, but the time i play (late CST) make it so there are not too many others around. so is anyone around during late night CST usa looking for some MP?
