OK, if I got this correct, you tried to use intercom without any VOIP protocols? In that case it won't work. You need either SRS or DCS voice chat not only enabled but active.

If cold start, make sure RAD ALT is turned ON. If hot start, still make sure you have RAD ALT readout on your IHADSS.

When you are starting the mission, keep collective half way up and quite a lot of left pedal. As soon as you press Fly, wiggle both so they synchronise with the game. I won't look pretty, but you should be able to survive. Do not check synchronisation option in settings because that will introduce a lot of other problems.
