mjeh Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 First post, hello everyone :) First off I'm sorry if this has already been posted and/ or answered, I did some searching here and in the lock on section, but I could not find anything related. So, my problem is that whenever I try to set up a group of multiple large aircraft in the mission editor, only one (the lead, I assume?) aircraft from the group actually pops up when I run the mission in the sim. I have confirmed this behaviour with both il-76 and various tupolev bombers, and in both DCS and Lock On sims. Workaround is obviously to set up more groups of aircraft, but I guess my question is this; Can large aircraft have wingmen?
Eddie Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Can large aircraft have wingmen? No, bombers and other large aircraft operate as singles.
Jona33 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 The copy paste function in the ME (Ctrl C/CtrlV) is very useful. It's been like this since LOMAC though. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
mjeh Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 The copy paste function in the ME (Ctrl C/CtrlV) is very useful. It's been like this since LOMAC though. Indeed! This begs a follow up question, though; Will the AI avoid mid air-collisions?
Jona33 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I'm not entirely sure TBH. I know that Mi-8's have crashed into my shark before and wingman collisions happen a lot in A-10 on landing. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
mjeh Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 Pesky wingmen! Well, I don't really need them to fly close to eachother anyway :) Thanks for the input!
Speed Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 (edited) Indeed! This begs a follow up question, though; Will the AI avoid mid air-collisions? I've definitely seen them take evasive action to avoid a collision However, sometimes they fail to: 2NRoRGTtCtI I would guess that failing to take evasive action might have something to do with them trying to execute some precise, controlled task where they are under strict flight limits... but that doesn't exactly explain the above video. EtherealN Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Pesky wingmen! Well, I don't really need them to fly close to eachother anyway :) Thanks for the input! Yeah, the reason for this restriction was that having "wingmen" for large aircraft causes things like runway starts where a pair of aircraft would be inside each other. In fact...i never seem to get a 2-ship AI flight to get airborn TOGETHER when you choose a startup from ramp. I read in some thread though that IRL loaded jets (= loaded with bombs or missiles) do NEVER take off together !! Is that true ??

Live aircraft AFAIK always have at least 20 seconds between them and the wingman. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
