Erk104 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 The manual Says this: "INS Alignment The INS requires alignment any time the aircraft has been dark and cold for a long period of time. In the case of DCS, an alignment is required every time you: Start from the ramp Have requested aircraft repairs from the ground crew Has requested a rearm/refuel from the ground crew." My question is wouldn't you be able to add ground power prior to shut down for repair to maintain your INS while repairs were underway? With rearm or refuel you don't need to shut down therefore your engine should maintain the INS would it not?
Zeus67 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 It is based on the following assumptions: Rearm and refuel do not require that you move the aircraft from where you parked. Repair requires that you move the aircraft to the hangar, even if in-game the aircraft does not move at all. That is why Repair requires a full alignment. "Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning." "The three most dangerous things in the world are a programmer with a soldering iron, a hardware type with a program patch and a user with an idea."

What if you were to connect Ground Power? and Keep the INS up and running? Much like you do with the APU keeping the CDU warm on the A-10C?
nomdeplume Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 The point is that any reasonable "repair" activity would necessitate moving the aircraft. Moving the aircraft will invalidate the INS alignment. The A-10 has a GPS that continually corrects the INS position, but the M-2000C does not.
Erk104 Posted July 7, 2016 Author Posted July 7, 2016 (edited) I understand the need for realism for the simulation however from the game playability standpoint to have to wait 11 minutes between start of repair and realignment is a bit much in my opinion. I mean the repair is sped up I would think that realignment could be sped up as well. Nothing in these sims 100% real anyway. I just think finding a balance between realism and playability is the key. I really like this sim though you all are doing a very good job. Edited July 7, 2016 by Erk104

You can select in options, to always have a always fully aligned INS. If you don't want full realism and prefer speed.
Erk104 Posted July 7, 2016 Author Posted July 7, 2016 Does this apply to Multiplayer servers as well? so if I go to a multiplayer server I won't have to align as long as I have option checked? or is the host server rules enforced?

Depends on the mission designer. Your setting can be overruled by the server, but it doesn't have to be.
