Reinstall Windows - all controller setups gone!

So, I had to reinstall Windows after a crash - yes, using up yet another activation on the modules unnecessarily - and all my control settings have gone!

I copied all the config files, etc. back into Saved Games>DCSxx>Config, but still screwed.

What do I have to do to get them back working?

OK, so I've worked out a long way of doing this, i.e. save a new file for each device by changing something, then paste n the contents of the old config files.

Having to do this dozens of times, is a complete pain. Surely there must be another way.

You don't need to paste the info. You can just rename the old files to match the new file names. There is no other way to fix it since reloading windows changes the USB ID of your controllers.

What you should have done, in the first place, is to have used the Save Profile function to backup your controller profiles. Then you would have been able to just Load Profile each one back.

Thanks, I haven’t done them all as I thought there might be a quicker way.

So, can I not load in all the old ones as profiles, and then they will save as new?

They are not in the correct format, which is why the Save/Load Profile functions exist.

Why on earth is this so awkward? I mean, any other program has settings files that just simply load back on a reinstall

With the dozens of config files in DCS, what can’t it just save one for each device for each module without having the crazy naming convention? I assume it is related to changing device IDs, but still.

Loading the old profiles does work, I'm pleased to say. Not sure what you meant by 'wrong format', unless I'm missing something.

That's news to me. Perhaps they have made additional changes to the file structure since the last time I dug into it.

Yep, all good. I just loaded all the old settings in via load profile, copied them from the 2.0 folder to 1.5 as well, and all is good.
