I dont recall any specifics with regards to navigation or mapping capabilities being clarified in the original Hornet list of features.

SO thus the question being will we get TAMMAC?

TAMMAC or Tactical Aircraft Moving Map Capability was a feature that made its way to legacy Hornets post afc 327 which was applied to Lots 12 and above.

in short TAMMAC is simply a new digital map computer and memory unit, offering way of storing mapping data and allows for additional moving map modes.

Further elaborating TAMMAC replaces Weapons replaceable assemblies, the AN/ASQ-196 DVMS which consisted of the Digital MAP computer and the Digital Memory unit. TaMMAc system consits of MU119/A Advanced memory unit, new CP-2414/A digital map computer, and a High speed interface Bus connecting the two together.

As to what this actually translates for the virtual pilot is offering 3 mapping mode types

1st mode is "CHRT" or CHART map. This is essentially the same classic moving map we currently have in our lot 20 Hornet, and a feature that Hornets had since lot 12. This is still an option is still retained in the tammac system.

2nd mode: DTED or Digital Terrain Elevation Data : a Digital map that includes representing elevated terrain with slope shading

3rd mode: CIB , Controlled Image BASE " is a mode that provides a plan view panchromatic image derived from a variety of mission planning, command control, communications, and intelligence systems

It would be nice if we did.

More or less we have CHRT now.

yea CHRT is the basic mapping mode that was present before TAMMAC was integrated, but that option is still included in TAMMAC

What does the CIB mode exactly do?

I can appreciate DTED mode if the AMPCD's readability eventually gets improved...... lol

CIB is specialized sat imagery more or less, it can be integrated with other sensor data too. Its pretty tightly controlled so im sure if we get something it will be approximated, and its often used for specific areas like a target region.

For approximation would it be viable using a public source than for sat imagery? IE google maps( sat view) or something as a baseline?

because in comparison essentially all of the chart maps we already use, although being authentic are really dated ones anyways. For eg Caucasus is from cold war era, dating from 1985. That specific region of the Persian gulf, is from 1994.
