Spyros Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I've read some nostalgic threads in the forum about good old simulators like ACE, Combat Lynx, Combat Air Patrol etc, so I thought I'd upload a photo of my simulators for the elders to remember and the youngsters to discover (I hope that makes sense in English). Most of them are for the Amiga and the ZX Spectrum, except from the ones in bottom row which are for ehm... IBM Compatibles. :) Enjoy! :pilotfly: God forgives... Spyros doesn't.
dotChuckles Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Wow that's a pic full of memories right there... Spotting the Dog Fight box there brings back great memories of flying the Harrier over the Falklands listening to Megadeth. I long for the days when the Amiga500 was the cutting edge and all I had to worry about was my mock Standard Grades. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
bumfire Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 In the pic, of what I can make out, I had roughly 14 or 15 of those titles, maybe more if I could see clearly, but some rows I cant see what the names are, but for the ones I can see my total is around 14/15. Certainly brings back memories :)
Spyros Posted March 25, 2011 Author Posted March 25, 2011 @ dotChuckles Hey, I was a fan of Megadeth in the 80s too! @bumfire Yes the photo isn't very clear in some parts, probably got to do with the light and my shaky hands. :) Sorry about that! The games pictured are: Dawn Patrol, Reach for the Skies, Mig-29 Fulcrum, Flight Simulator 2, F-15 Strike Eagle 2, Thunderhawk, Combat Air Patrol, Subwar 2050, Jet, Tornado, Gunship 2000, F-19 Stealth Fighter, Coala, Silent Service 2, Dogfight, Av-8 Harrier Assault, Birds of Prey, A-10 Tank Killer, Flight of the Intruder, ACE, F-16 Combat Pilot, Falcon Mission Disk 1, Falcon Mission Disk 2, Falcon, Fighter Bomber, Fighter Bomber Advanced Missions, F-15 Strike Eagle, Strike Force Harrier, Spitfire 40, Red October, Silent Service, Combat Lynx, Skychase, Battlehawks 1942, ATF 2, F-29 Retaliator, Gunship, Interceptor, Night Raider, ATF, Delta Wing, Fighter Pilot, Jet Pilot, X-Plane 9, Lockon, Flaming Cliffs, DCS: Blackshark, Steel Beasts and FSX. I've got to admit that some of them weren't exactly simulators (eg. ATF), but they were as fun, so I couldn't omit them. God forgives... Spyros doesn't.

Spyros Posted March 26, 2011 Author Posted March 26, 2011 Great to see the Birds of Prey box again, loved that. That was a great game! You could fly almost any plane you could imagine, from Transport to Fighters (there wasn't an A-7 Corsair II in the game though  ). It even had a dynamic campaign, which was great for 90-91. At first I was put off by the fact that all airplanes had the same generic cockpit, but each plane had a different flight model so it didn't really matter, especially in HUD only view. :) God forgives... Spyros doesn't.
Jinja Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I've just spent the past few nights flicking through the massive bound-manual for F-22 Total Air War circa 98. The amount of info about different units appearing in the game was impressively unnecessary!... full background to several planes, full Block improvements and service contract details across Eastern Europe... gotta love the attention detail even back then. i7@3.5Ghz, ATI 5870, 16GB RAM, win7 64bit, TH2GO, Track-IR, 4screen pit, TM WArthog HOTAS
104th_Cobra Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Nice collection, indeed. I liked a lot Steel Beasts, a good MBT simulation. It would be very interesting if ED consider integration of a land battle environment. For multiplayer on CAS it will be a must have. 104th Cobra [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
