tflash Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 In an interview with pilots from the Flying Tigers in Combat Aircraft European Edition Volume 12, No 8 there are two quotes that caught my attention on page 66: "One of the limiting factors for the A-10 is the speed it flies - and with how much energy we can release the bomb. When we drop an GBU-12 laser-guided bomb we can't drop it with forward energy like the F-15E or F-16to make corrections to a moving target." And: "If we carry two GBU-12s we will, by nature of the weapons pylons, only carry one GPS-guided bomb. With us, the gun is used 99% of the time." The first statement is logical, although I didn't anticipate it would have such great effect on the weapons employability: kinetics is still important! The second statement is completely new to me. I see plenty of opportunity to carry 2 GBU-12, two GBU 38 and a Litening pod? Maybe the quote has been misrepresented? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
