IvanK Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 (edited) In MIG29S chasing 2 Jamming MIG29's. Both jamming strobes clearly visible. At around 45Km paints visible inside each jamming strobe indicating burn through. Locked the target but only got an angle lock with no range data or data on the MFD. At around 15km Range info and usual MFD lockon presentation. Is this a bug or a change in the latest version ? Previously as soon as the target was visible in the jamming strobe (i.e. burn through) Lockon could be taken. (1.2.7.23803) Edited February 17, 2014 by IvanK
IvanK Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 (edited) I have done some testing and I think its a display bug. The test was done MIG29S and MIG29S. I started 50Km co alt behind a jamming MIG29S and closed. The Target paint became visible within the jamming strobe at around 30Km. If I took a lock I achieved and angle lock only with no range or MFD data. As I continued to close a full lock occurred at 15Km with both range and MFD data visible. I then repeated the test with a non jamming MIG29A. This time The target was detected at 30Km (Same range as it apperred inside the jamming strobe above), lockon was achieved at 15Km... again lock on at the same range. Conclusion: Actual target detection occurs at around 30Km (in this stern chase scenario). In a jamming environment the Sim is displaying a skin paint inside the jamming strobe at the standard no jamming detection range, so it erroneously looks like a burn through. IMO the actual target should be displayed at a lesser range in the jamming environment.... i.e. when burn through occurs. So the bug is the early display of a target in a jamming strobe.
