Does anyone have a useful application for the AGM-65K besides being a Tunguska target drone?

Locking onto targets, be it tanks, houses, ships, fuel tanks, bridges, ... in optimal contrast conditions seem only possible from on average 1.5 miles,

with a very narrow engagement frame: less than a second later and the missile will overshoot the target.

Sometimes I do manage to lock and shoot from about 1.5, and then the missile really flies straight into the target as a point blank weapon.

If I lock earlier, you get not a real lock but just a kind of ground stabilisation and the missile will overshoot. Anyway, I almost never manage to engage from medium altitude. 500 meters high and 1.5 miles is the only window that works.

I had the impression that in 1.11 I could lock and engage from about 2.9 miles?

This is way of the mark and certainly contrasts with the way the missile is described, both by raytheon and the USAF, as giving standoff range.

1,5 miles/500 meters is in no way standoff. Seems to me more "texas hunting season range" and anyway puts you right in the engagement envelope of almost anything on the ground, because no less then some seconds later you are already overflying the target.

EDIT: I sometimes get somewhat better results. Flew twice same mission; first time: 1.8 nm for first kill, 0.8 for last; second time: 2.8 (!) for first, 0.8 for last (against BTR-70, clear whether, summer 20 degrees). I had a slightly different angle second time. 2.8-0.8 is of course a much more acceptable range. I'll test further!

Until the LockOn K gets its Scene Mag capabilities that its been missing from the beginning, its not good for much other than mopping up after the missile carriers and big guns in a convoy have been taken out. I always use Ds myself. :D
