Just a reminder that you should always think twice before feeding a monopolist by choosing its products, be it Autodesk, Google, Creative or another legal but clearly abusive company.

well you should be thinking twice, but when it comes to the world of 3d you dont have much choice, unless you want to be different for the sake of being different, when it comes to its professional usage.

But with that said a 3000-5000 dollars piece of sofrware that has broken menus when you scale up your text, is appalling.

I'm certainly not saying one should go on one-man vendetta against the abusive company. Just to make the matter of monopoly and broader perspective one of the key aspects of software/service selection. Oftentimes it's this or that so throwing in the matter of the company's reputation may even make things easier :)

As for the scarse choice, yes it's all getting to the point where a monopolist has been running wild. For any 3D artist I'd seriously recommend to re-consider Blender. It has come a long way since the past few years and to such a degree that any evaluation of the software dating pre-2013 is no longer valid.

As an amateur, what I find really helpful is the Blender's changelog. http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:Ref/Release_Notes It's highlights-based and categorized unlike most other software changelogs being kind of spit-out from bug-tracking software.
