This has been going about in my head for quite some time. I see people saying that Two-Seat planes are not totally feasible yet even though the Huey has changed the field quite a bit, which rules out stuff like the Tomcat and Phantom from being fully produced.

Then I got to thinking, those two planes have all the instruments you really need to fight the bad guys up in the driver's seat. While no, you can't in actuality operate the radar up front, you do have a display, and that really is all you need for DCS, even is high-fidelity. The GIB's place in those birds is absolutely dominated by the sensor display, which at least is partially duplicated in the front. That is really all you need; do you really need to be sitting in the back seat to control the Radar and IRST?

Plus the bombing for the Phantom and Tomcat Alpha doesn't really need any fancy displays since they only got to use precision munitions in a regular occasion later in their lifetimes. The F-14D has MFDs, so it doesn't need it per se, and the Phantom's guided munitions capability is rather limited honestly and only a couple of weapons need a TV display.

Plus all the weapons can be controlled as normal, except for some of the guided munitions of course, but that can't really be helped.

I am crap at send-offs, so just start ruining my whole idea and argument already :D

Given the current inability to have dual human control, you have to have an AI RIO. Which could be awesome, cause he wouldn't miss a thing. Honestly I think certain pieces are in place to make this work, even though AI functions via a certain number of cheats. Take the wingman support logic, blended with that missile warning audio cue you get with certain game mode option turned on and you're half way there. Having the AI handle sensors and intelligent target selection might be a whole other issue however.

Im working on an F-14D again after a long break.

1. Carl Vinson catapult is non existent as far as I can tell, so I'm just going to make a ground crew radio command that will count down and push your speed to 80kts instantly and let the engines do the rest.

2. With the MFD's you can access every page the NWO can in his seat on his MFD's. So in the event of death or incapacitation the pilot can still keep as much functionality as possible.

My plan is the make the seats changeable like the huey. they both have sticks so you'll still maintain stick control so you can still maneuver in that seat during a fight.

I'm to the hard part now... 3d modeling of the plane and pit. Used ED's f-14a model for testing with f-15 pit

Love to fly a phantom...Even in a skilled pilots hands its out classed by todays jets and pilots but still the sexy beast it was back in the day.

Wouldnt mind a few ww2 bombers to that are as functional as the rest are..

As for the back seaters issue, why not have a lil drop down menue for his tasks but have some sorta auto for emerg or chk 6 and so on..

The "SCALES" of aeronautical performance will weigh heavily on your next move..
