It's been known for a while (several other posts mention it) that when saving input device config files (for example for a Logitech Extreme Pro3D joystick), any configured modifier buttons for that profile do not get saved into the config file LUA.

That is unfortunate since other users who wish to use that profile need to manually add each of the modifier keys (and if they are named, make sure they have the exact same spelling) which seems a bit tedious.

1. is that an oversight / bug which should be filed or is there a good reason for not saving the modifiers along with the device profile ?

2. instead of manual configuration of the modifiers, is there a way to provide a snippet of code that users might paste into some lua file to reduce the effort/error possibilities when installing a profile ?

I realize this is mostly a non issue for "big" HOTAS controllers like the Thrustmaster ($500) or Saitek ($130) which have plenty of buttons, practically eliminating the need for modifiers.

However, for less hardcore users, a cheap but good joystick like the Logitech Extreme Pro3D ($25) is quite sufficient for a SU25T but needs a bunch of modifiers to provide enough "on stick" controls. For example, several people have profiles with all 6 base buttons as modifiers.

Hence my question.

Thanks

The modifiers.lua is in C:\Users\yourusername\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\A-10C\modifiers.lua, there's one in each aircraft folder so you can have different modifiers for each aircraft.

The problem is that it is labeled in the lua by the device ID, so won't work to transfer from one machine to another I think.

Probably just easier to specify which modifiers need to be setup in options, it really is a pretty painless process.

It might be tricky, due to each KB/Mouse/Device having different ID's.

With other devices, it's not a matter of Sharing the DCSW LUAs when Sharing a Profile, it's a Matter of Sharing the Profile for the software (ie Target, CH Hanger, Etc).

What you need to do is find a piece of software that will allow you to create an external profile for your Logitech Stick, like Joy2Key.

So that Button XXX = keyboard Press XXX,

Button Hold = SHIFT State,

and Joystick SHIFT Button + Button XXX = Keyboard press

And just map everything to be routed as keyboard presses. so all a user has to do is Configure his Axes, everything else will be mapped to simulate KB Presses as long as everyone uses the default/same KB Assignments the profile should work.
