llama Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Hey there folks, I hope yu are having a good morning (or evening, afternoon, whatever it is wherever you may be ;) ). Ibhave a question for you, oh gurus of input and output =) . I currently own 3 sticks and 2 throtttles that I would like to combine to create a super nifty, ultra-cool, frankenstick! ;) the sticks are as follows: 1. X52, which the left hat, and 2 buttons are inop. 2. X65, fully functional 3. Thrustmaster Pro FLCS (REALLY old, gameport) Here is what I am thinking, I would like to be able to use the grip from the 65 with the pots from the thrustmaster for helos and WWII aircraft, but would also like to still retain the use of the force sensing stick for fast movers. Do you think if I use the board from the x52, I could connect the pots from the flcs? If yes, could I use cannon plugs to make the stick interchangeable? Foreseen problems: 1. I have no idea if I the pots can interface with any of the other components 2. I have never tried to mod a stick of ANY kind, so my knowledge is minimal 3. I also do not know any programming languages, so I would have to be able to use the saitek drivers. 4. I have not disassembled the 65 to take a look at the innards and have not been able to find a good photo of what it looks like. Do any of you have a photo that would work? I googled it, but could not find anything that showed the wires and such Let me know what yu guys think, any inout is greatly appreciated :) Asrock z68 Extreme4Gen3 Intel i5-2500K 8GB ram EVGA GTX 770 4GB Creative Recon3d Fatality Champion HDD's 320 GB Maxtor 7200RPM (OS and misc system files) 1 TB Hitachi 7200 RPM (games and music, storage) 64 GB Sandisk u100 SSD (Star Wars and DCS world 1.2.7) Trackir 4 Saitek X65F:joystick: Saitek X52 (Use flightstick for helo and WWII Sims, but X65 throttle) CH Pro pedals Thrustmaster MFD's Logitech X5500 Speakers Sennheiser PC360 Headphones Win 7 Home Premium (64 Bit)
Sokol1_br Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Do you think if I use the board from the x52, I could connect the pots from the flcs? If yes, could I use cannon plugs to make the stick interchangeable? You can use FLCS grip with Saitek base, but need rewire buttons and HATS on FLCS accord the electrical scheme used in Saitek - they are not compatible PnP - or, in other words you need made your FLCS work like Saitek X-52 grip. Pots (on FLCS) is easy to wire (just 3 wires per pot) in actual Saitek X-52 HALL sensor connections (both work in the same way, as voltage divider), probable as "bonus" you get some "spikes" - normal on 90's Tm pot's. BTW - These buttons dont working in X-52 grip is just fault micro-switch's, you can replace then (cost cheap). And are a good training for the rest of you project. If you fail in this, abort the rest. :D Foreseen problems: 1. I have no idea if I the pots can interface with any of the other components Pot's don interface with other components, only with axis connections (3 pins for each por), this is the easy part of his project. 2. I have never tried to mod a stick of ANY kind, so my knowledge is minimal You need know at least how do (good) solders and have appropriated tools for this. 3. I also do not know any programming languages, so I would have to be able to use the saitek drivers. You dont need fiddle with programming languages, drivers. With the above modifications, the FLCS grip is seem like a Saitek grip, so for Windows, drivers, games, dont matter. 4. I have not disassembled the 65 to take a look at the innards and have not been able to find a good photo of what it looks like. Do any of you have a photo that would work? Leave the X-65 out this "Frankstick", use only the FLCS grip on Saitek base. No advantage of X-65 grip over FLCS one, both have similar functions. Wire multiple buttons/HATS involve work with "key matrix" - combine lines and columns - what require planing and (lot) of patience. Sokol1
llama Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 Excellent, thanks for the input :) is there a preferred brand/vendor for replacement microswitches?
