Exorcet Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I'm assuming NWS works as it does because that's how it works in the real F-15. NWS isn't a critical button though, so I'd rather not place it on the HOTAS, which is already full. Would it be easy to make NWS toggle-able? It might not be technically correct, but I doubt this will have any serious negative impact on the sim. dok_rp Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 What joystick are you using? I'm asking that because if you have any Thrustmaster or Saitek joysticks, you can easily make any button "togglable". That's what I did with the TARGET software. :)
Exorcet Posted May 6, 2014 Author Posted May 6, 2014 I have the X52, but between two computers I was never able to get the software to work. The first one installed fine, but crashed DCS after 20 minutes. The second one just doesn't work at all. The second one just doesn't work at all. That's unfortunate that you can't get the software working because you could just set up an alternative Mode layer for ground ops which wouldn't then conflict with any of your inflight stuff. I use Mode 3 on my X52 Pro for ground movement which frees up most of the buttons. However, I don't use DCS for the joystick button mappings (which is why I can use the mode selector), I just use DCS for the joystick axis and clear out all the 'JOY' button assignments. i7-4790K@4.7GHz : EVGA 1070 SC : 16GB Corsair Vengence Pro : 2xEVO 840 SSD : EVGA 850W PSU : CORSAIR H100i Cooler : ASUS Z97-AR MB : CORSAIR OBSIDIAN 750D FULL TOWER
ED Team cofcorpse Posted May 6, 2014 ED Team Posted May 6, 2014 (edited) NWS isn't a critical button though It might not be technically correct, but I doubt this will have any serious negative impact on the sim. If you write that NWS isn't important, why we should change it and make it technically incorrect? Is it difficult to use keyboard or there are other issues? P.S.: IRL it IS on stick Edited May 6, 2014 by cofcorpse
Exorcet Posted May 6, 2014 Author Posted May 6, 2014 If you write that NWS isn't important, why we should change it and make it technically incorrect? Is it difficult to use keyboard or there are other issues? P.S.: IRL it IS on stick It is important, just not critical to have on HOTAS since I wouldn't use it occasionally. I'm not asking for it to be changed to an incorrect representation either, but asking for an additional way to set the controls. We have airbrake up, airbrake down, and airbrake toggle. The problem is using with my control set up. I have to hold the S key and release the throttle. The amount of throttle needed for taxi speed may not be enough to maintain speed during a turn and ground maneuvering just becomes clumsy. I can use my right hand, releasing the stick instead and use Z/X rudder or increase throttle to more than what's needed and fiddle with the W key while turning, but making NWS toggleable would be preferred and much neater. Like I originally said I don't know how much effort this involves, but if it's simple to add in I would appreciate it.
