TEMPEST.114 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Hi Please forgive me if I'm duplicating anything, I'm new around here. I've just bought the A10C and Huey modules, an Obutto R3volution, and a 23" touchscreen monitor in addition to my 3 monitor setup. The idea being to replicate the great touchscreen multimonitor set ups seen here and in youtube. However, I'm also playing Elite Dangerous, and I'd like to know if there is a free or paid app for windows 8+ that would let me create 'touch buttons' and assign them to keyboard presses. I'm an ex iOS and Mac OS X Dev, so I can't do windows programming myself, but I'd gladly pay if someone had already invented this 'wheel'. Thanks.
TEMPEST.114 Posted May 2, 2014 Author Posted May 2, 2014 Windows 8 touchscreen app for key mapping? I'm building quite a nice little cockpit for ED and DCS A10C and the Huey modules, and as such I'm adding a 23" touchscreen to my existing multi monitor setup. In DCS you can map OSD's and stuff to the touchscreen monitor and therefore control them with your fingers. Does anyone know of a windows 8.1 app that allows you to create on-screen 'buttons' and key map them to global keyboard presses so I can do the same setup but for other games (Elite Dangerous specifically)? I've been googling for over an hour. There is a few for ios (my ipad will work but I wanted to use the new monitor.) but I can't find any for windows 8 Anyone know of any? Thanks
cichlidfan Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Helios is what you are seeing used with DCS. The touch screen functionality does not originate within the sim. http://gadrocsworkshop.com/helios/ ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! How do I get that screen to show then, if the game doesn't support viewports or integrations with Helios? I have 3 monitors (game) and then a touchscreen monitor which in DCS I know will work as I've seen the youtube videos. But I need the same kinda thing to work in other games. Maybe I didn't make that clear in my post, sorry.
cichlidfan Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 (edited) Helios, which runs in the background, will send keystrokes to whatever application is running. I have created profiles for other flight sims. You will not be able to create gauges for other games but you can easily create a panel of switches and buttons for sending commands to the game. Even with DCS, Helios is only fully functional (i.e. supports gauges and data export) with the A-10C and Ka-50 modules. EDIT: There is another application out there that might also be of some use. I don't recall the details but I think it can also be used with other games (though it was not designed with that in mind, either). http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=71729 Edited May 2, 2014 by cichlidfan ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! But knowing windows, when the other game (Elite Dangerous) is running full screen in my 3 monitors, how do I get windows to display the Helios program and custom buttons / switches, while both apps have focus? I didn't think Windows allowed that kind of thing?

TEMPEST.114 Posted May 2, 2014 Author Posted May 2, 2014 It does. Cool! I'll take your word for it and try it! Thanks so much! :)
