I'm curious:

  1. What do people typically use Tacview for.
  2. What version would you recommend (and I'm assuming your answer to #1 would influence answer #2).

I'd like to get a version of this for "training" purposes: practice a Basic Fighter Maneuver / Air Combat Maneuver / Acrobatic Maneuver - by myself or with (a) partner(s) - and then play it back to analyze how well it was performed, and how it could be improved.

I'd like to use it in a similar manner for group missions; sort of a "post game analysis".

Given that - is there any value that people have seen in going for the Professional over the Home edition? As an aside - even if the Free edition would work "well enough", I'd still like to support the software author's efforts, so that's not an option here.

One of the things I read early on was that the free edition does a pretty good job at covering all the bases that most people need.

As a server in some cases I like to go back in it to see if triggers didn't fire because of a bug or because we missed someone- even though I build the missions a lot of them are highly randomized so I don't know where everything is.

There are a few cases where people get shot down by something and cry foul and I like to be able to go back and review footage. We had a guy in the server the other day who seemed to have radar in his su25... he was able to fly straight to other people in the server and shoot them down as if magically. Pretty easy to see him adjusting his flight path to various units WAY in advance after watching the game play footage on tacview (can fast forward AND rewind- unlike tracks) and then VERY easily snatch his UCID from a log and ban him from the server forever. So, so sick of people taking advantage of the fact I leave exports on.

Anyway I feel a bit guilty saying the free version is fine for almost everything- but it is. Then again I've never used the pro version so I'm not sure what additional benefits there may be.
