stinkx Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Hey people, First of all i must say that i enjoy being in this wonderful community. I'm a novice simmer with less than a month of experience (and lots of crashes ) under my belt. So far i have been using a 3d extreme pro by logitech to fly and enjoy the sights and the occasional sam collisions. I got my hands on some money and decided to buy a better hardware with some hotas function. Tested a used x52 pro ( we dont have these hardware in vendors here in turkey) and luckily saitek had a good interface for button and slider response testing. I noticed some oscillations in sliders and the mouse on the throttle and decided not to buy it. Now i found a good priced warthog with less than 20 hours usage but I have to test it under 90 minutes. Does thrustmaster have a similar interface for testing the button responses or do i have to test it in the game? And while we are at it: what should i look for besides the signals of the buttons and the stick? I will be testing the gear in 5 days. In the meantime any help is appreciated. Thanks for your time Stinkx out o7
aeliusg Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Where are you testing it? I'm pretty sure you can use the regular game controller dialog to test it without even installing any drivers if that's not convenient. The buttons on the stick will likely all work, but be sure to test the various hats. The grey one on the top right of the stick is an 8-way POV and the other ones show up as button presses. The hat on the left side of the stick also has a press-down button. You'll want to pay attention to the switches on the throttle. Make sure the flaps switch isn't too loose and the hats on the the side of it don't feel loose either. Besides that look for smoothness in the stick. There's always a little friction when you move it at first but it should be buttery smooth afterwards. If it's only got 20 hours like you said there probably won't be any issues (if it went bad I think the guy would've returned it, right?).
stinkx Posted July 15, 2014 Author Posted July 15, 2014 Thanks for the reply aeliusg. I will be testing it at the current owners place on my own laptop. The thing is the current owner's wife had bought it as a present on a trip to the states. So a return would not be possible. I was just searching for an interface to test the buttons and responses like in saitek's, so i could preinstall it and save time. I will look into the game controller interface. Also thanks for the pointers, i will surely check those as well.
aeliusg Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 If you are testing on your own laptop, you may as well download the drivers: http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=1&fid=3&pid=311&cid=1 Then go to game controllers/properties or settings and test it, same way you test your Logitech joystick.
