I sometimes mess around on EBAY by throwing a low ball bid on a piece of hardware. Just checked what the XFX R9 290 DD I bid on sold for. Low and behold I got it for $160. Guess I'm going crossfire. Sure hope the Corsair TX850 can handle it. THE PS calculator says it will so I guess I'll find out.

I'm amazingly good at ebaying. I've done this a few times:

  1. see an auction for something rare I want end at a time I'm usually asleep
  2. set my alarm early to get up and try to snipe it
  3. wake up tired as hell in the middle of the night, drag myself out of bed
  4. make some coffee, sit down at computer
  5. get distracted by something, forget to place bid

Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5

That happens to me every day! :D

If your system need around 700w to run. That's a lot!

If your power supply is a bronze certification (85%), that mean he will generate 15% of heat: http://www.plugloadsolutions.com/80PlusPowerSupplies.aspx#

I mean 105w (15x7) of heat for your configuration. Yes! that's a lot of heat.

Your power supply run at 82% (700w) of his rated load (850w). A power supply should run at 50% to 75% of his rated load. (the range of his max efficiency)

You are always better to choose a gold certification for SLI/Crossfire configuration (high wattage): http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page362.htm

When you calculate the wattage, don't forget to choose a 90% utilization, because your components never run constantly at 100% utilization, all together at the same time.

Your power supply efficiency 83%? http://www.plugloadsolutions.com/80PlusPowerSuppliesDetail.aspx?id=25&type=2

Sorry for the bad news. But I think he can handle it, and heat up the room.

Nice PS cart there Demon. I was looking at a 1200W Corsair at the same time I was bidding on the 290. It sold for $122. I should have thrown a bid at it too. I'm going to give it a go with the PS I have. If it doesn't work out then I'll sell it and pick up a 1200-1500 watt unit.
