Random Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Been slowly learning the Mig and today I decided to go PVP for real for the 1st time. Another ACG pilot is currently learning the F15 and we went one on one. To balance it out I had GCI and he was limited to sparrows and the earlier sidewinder variant. All went to plan I took off and flew north to get away from the direct approach to his airfield. Staying low I patiently waited for my GCI controller to give me a vector. When he finally does I maneuvered to flank the incoming F15 and finally get abeam of him and turn in and begin my climb. The F15 is now dead ahead of me and my RWR hasn't made a peep. Drop tanks are now empty so they get jettisoned. Reheat engaged and I start to reel him in... 30km.... 20.... 10... This is where I make the mistake. I know its going to be hard to eyeball him and fire up the radar briefly to locate him and hope to send him an IR missile before he realises whats happening. I underestimated how quickly he would react to the RWR and he promptly turned head to head with me! Rear aspect IR missiles are now useless. A few passes and my RWR goes ballistic. I somehow avoid a sparrow I didn't even see and on the next pass actually SEE him launch. For some reason the jammer pod which was set to auto dispense chaff and flares wasn't and just as I switched to manual and hit the button the Sparrow made contact. I'm really enjoying this module, I've never really been into jets in flightsims but the sabre and now the Mig21 have got me properly hooked! Is there anyone out there willing to give me a bit of one on one tuition on how to use the Mig correctly?
Essah Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Jammer pod appears to be non-functional see this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=131879 After having fought against MiG-21's in BMS flying F-16, similar in capability to the F-15 the tactic the AI uses there seems to be one of the best bets for the MiG-12 against superior adversaries. Hug the ground to avoid being detected by enemy radar, let the GCI vector you to the target, but instead of turning on your radar, stay radar off, slide in below him as you're climbing, make sure to stay in dead angles below, and as you approach his altitude come in behind, Close in at a slightly lower altitude and eyeball the range for when you can make an IR shot. A good F-15/F-16 pair would fly in a line abreast formation in order for each pilot to be able to check his wingman's six o'clock for a silent attacker behind. A singleton flying straight could be a realistic target.
roob Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 So what I read was: don't ever use the radar and radar missiles for fighters with RWR ^^, My DCS stream [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Past broadcasts, Highlights Currently too much to do... But watch and (maybe) learn something :)
