One guy killed 3 with an AIM-120 in a matter of seconds, as well as got another with an AIM-9. Hadwell Posted January 11, 2015 Share Posted January 11, 2015 (edited) yeah I was there when they were doing that, but was like... no thanks... yeah it looks cool having a bunch of mig-21s in close formation, but really, to avoid giving noobraam/spamraam/aim120noobs multi-kills (not gonna say F-15 pilots, cause once the missiles off the pylon the aim-120 is its own self-contained aircraft), you need to fly more like how santi and I flew it doesn't look as pretty, but it means if anyone dies, there might be enough time for the others to escape and find the enemy. but not trying to say F-15 pilots always use aim-120s, they don't. I'll take two groms and 4 R-60Ms" ,well i missed with one of my groms, but my other hit an AA vehicle, and i got out ok then, since i had the R-60M's i went over to the enemies TA at krasnodar, so I was just flying along directly over the city, and all of a sudden picked up a friendly on my radar, I look up and see a mig-21 chasing an F-15, then the someone tells me it's him in the 21 on comms, has no missiles left, he shoots at him with his guns, misses, the F-15 rolls in on him, the guy on comms tells me to kill the F-15, so I go in and do just that. We had a 5-ship of -21s and were RTB from the AO. 3 were less than 1200L, but myself and another still had 1900L, so we decided to defend the rear because we knew the F-15 would be somewhere near us, as he was talking crap on all the -21s. Well, as we turn to scan the area we see a lone contrail. Both of us stayed low and lit the burners, then zoom-climbed to fire. We were only 30km from home plate and I didn't feel like landing imbalanced so I fired both of my R-3Rs when I noticed the target start to explode, then realized that my wingman also fired off both of his. If you notice on the gif, the F-15 was blown up so bad after the 3rd missile that there wasn't any piece of the remaining F-15 for my last R-3R to lock on to, and flew right through the debris field. Easily one of the funniest moments I've had in DCS. EDIT: Well, I tried to cut the video to show you guys but shadowplay decided to record in 0.25fps. Anyway I had a short fun session on the 104th. I was hunting near the red tgt area and saw a jet taxiing at Maykop which is the red a/o. Suprisingly the r13 tracked it and I fired. Ended up killing a friendly, sorry Tango 117. Turns out the base starts as blue, so despite the fact that ground vehicles were blowing up around it being attacked by red a10s, he still made it down safely. It turns to a red base after the targets are destroyed. So my mistake. His clanmate then quickly shot me down in retaliation ( I don't blame him lol). Anyway shortly after I end up joining in with the 117 guys and fly as a 4th 21 in their formation. All of a sudden the leader breaks as we make contact with an enemy 15, I try to find it but one of our migs was shot down :(. I quickly find the attacking f15 visually and hit him with an r-13m1...Ironically the Mig who got shot down, was the guy who team killed me in retaliaton for Tango.. so I retaliated his death..weird circumstance lol Anyway I also later on get fired at by a f15, dive low and he ends up flying over me without noticing that he did. I get behind him and hit him with an r13m1 as well. Both 15s I killed were on the deck so interestingly I couldn't use my radar to lock or iff them. I now have MUCH more faith in the R13m1 vs the r60m. I have had good luck with the 13s range, tracking, and damage done to target, and I have never seen a fighter survive a hit. R60m for me has had range, tracking and damage problems for me, as I have had the missile go stupid many times, and I have even had f15s limp home after being hit by one. R13m1s despite being older don't seem to chase flares any worse than the r60m does. However, If the enemy is smart with flares the 60 has an advantage in that you can carry double the number. It may also be slightly more maneuverable in a dogfight setting but I believe the 13 is much better overall Sorry guys wish I had videos for you but I'm not sure how to make them. It is bad in this area. this is often fatal. the Mig 21 was used against f15 in real, but it is shattered :D.
