First, I'd say he goes up more than 2 or 3 metres, and second - just before executing the maneuovre he rolls 45 degrees away, so by the time he's finished he's noticeably further away. He's just made the displacement sideways, not directly up.

tell that to these guys:

 

 

at 1:55 and again at 2:05, the pilot performs a Cobra with almost no visible altitude gain during the manuever, and ends the manuever at the same altitude he started it.

 

At 1:55 he gains altitude, just by the fact that the camera is slightly below both aircraft.

 

On 2:05, he gains very little (would get a 9 out of 10 from me, if I was the judge), and the contrails are deflected due to the change of exhaust direction.

Except that as I said, at 2:04 he banks then performs the manoeuvre, so while he doesn't climb, by the time he's finished he's a lot further away from his wingman than when he starts.

If you can't see it by eye, take some screenshots and check the relative sizes of the two aircraft before and after the cobra.

that roll was significantly less than 45 degrees, and at 2:19 we can see that it resulted in negligible horizontal displacement: In that execution, the pilot rolled -towards- his wingman with the camera, and did not reduce lateral separation during the manuever.

Because I'm sad, so very sad...

 

Before I posted above I'd already taken screenshots, measured the planes, and checked that the one doing the cobra got smaller relative to the one not.

To me - that means he got further away..

To me - that means he moved off his original path when he performed the manoeuvre - not up, but away.

 

I'm happy with that - don't need to discuss it any more.

Some people believe in Santa, some - in the idea, that getting a kick of AT LEAST 3.5-4g the body's CoG will keep the initial velocity vector... :D

is disabling the "fly assistance" aid (s key) consistent with performing the cobra in a real SU-27? Also has anyone tried flying around with the aid turned off in general? You can get up to some pretty wild stuff, usually ending in a violent nose over into the inverted. After this there is either a glitch which causes the pov of the pilot to go black and the aircraft unresponsive, or the nose over actually kills the pilot.

Yes, Yes, and - yes you can can't you :)

 

The POV goes black and the controls unresponsive in a simulation of unconciousness caused by negative "G"s. If you're a bit careful about it you can watch your vision 'red-out' before the onset of unconciousness.

 

Blood draining from the brain you can counter with a G suit and training, and you can withstand quite a few G before you become jam.

Too much negative G just blows blood vessels in your brain - & you die.
