hideki2 Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 (edited) Hello! Is there anyone here that knows something about RC Shock absorbers? I want to give my Rudder and cyclic more "hydraulic" feel. I already fitted some rc shocks into my CH Pro Pedals, but I'm not satisfied with the effect as they are way to soft. especially that the only way I can mount them is pretty close to rudder pivoting point. I need RC shocks that are relatively small (about 15 - 20cm fully extended) that have as much damping as possible. Or maybe anyone has a better idea? Later today I will post some pictures of my rudder pedals. I also want to add four shocks to my extended MSFFB2. Edited November 28, 2014 by hideki2
T_A Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 oil filled rc shocks usually start from 60mm full extended eye to eye for 1/10 scale smaller than that its probably not oil filled and you wont be able to put different weight oil IAF.Tomer My Rig: Core i7 6700K + Corsair Hydro H100i GTX Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7,G.Skill 32GB DDR4 3000Mhz Gigabyte GTX 980 OC Samsung 840EVO 250GB + 3xCrucial 275GB in RAID 0 (1500 MB/s) Asus MG279Q | TM Warthog + Saitek Combat Pedals + TrackIR 5 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hideki2 Posted November 28, 2014 Author Posted November 28, 2014 (edited) oil filled rc shocks usually start from 60mm full extended eye to eye for 1/10 scale smaller than that its probably not oil filled and you wont be able to put different weight oil Currently I use those shocks http://www.ebay.com/itm/181423862661?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Even after filling them with a much heavier oil they show very little resistance. Maybe I could get some recommendations? The ones shown above are perfect fit in size for my pedals. Ps. Perhaps i should be more clear. I emptied them from factory oil which was giving almost no damping. I filled them with castrol 10w40 I had stashed around, now I can feel some resistance, but certainly not what i need, Today i will try differential oil which is super thic w80 - 90 ish? I hope it will be better. Otherwise I'm open to suggestions. Also I might not need to mod my joystick after all! User @Avarage_pilot has made an app that introduces damping into ffb stick, I will give it a go later today. I still need shocks in pedals sorted out tho. Edited November 28, 2014 by hideki2
Phantom_Mark Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Maybe a touch big but how about a Superbike steering head damper ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUZUKI-TL1000S-TLS1000-TL000-S-STANDARD-STEERING-DAMPER-/161451410334?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item259741039e They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, I have seen much slimmer smaller versions than the factory version I linked there. The other option which comes to mind is gas struts from the bonnet/boot of a car, SUV , extensively used in many vehicles these days, some quite compact as well.
hideki2 Posted November 28, 2014 Author Posted November 28, 2014 Thanks for reply! Steering damper looks promising. Those gas struts are no go, as they always have also spring action in them.
Suchacz Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 What about gas pistons used for furniture doors? for example (0:23) Per aspera ad astra! P5138 Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 This may help. Fanatec makes a set of pedals for driving sims that use a shock for the brake pedal, and this is a suggestion for an improved shock from some users: http://www.isrtv.com/forums/topic/11365-clubsport-pedals-2014/?p=109433 1
