steve65 Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Now that the mig-29 hdd is different than it used to be before the update I'm having some trouble getting all the information presented on the HUD in BVR mode straight.i think I have most all the info figured out except for 2 things,is the radar range number the one on the left side of the HUD just above the ILV/HI/MED indication and what is the number at the bottom of the HUD below the radar azimuth bar (it's a number with a decimal in it and usually starts at 10).if someone could post a screen shot showing what each symbol and numer is for it would be very helpful.:book:
Weta43 Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 The scale on the left is the distance from the bottom of the HUD to the top. It has the total range as a number at the top & then tick marks to allow estimation. The number in the middle at the bottom is the expected range to the target - if you think about the angle from the nose up to a target 5000m above you that is 10km in front of you is quite different from the angle to one at the same altitude, but 50km away. that number is to help point your radar at the correct angle. you set the expected range & it is displayed by that number, and the expected altitude relative to your own, and it appears on the right of the HUD display. If you had a target 50 km away, and at 5000m greater altitude than you, and you set the number at the bottom to 50, the elevation number at the right to '5' (5km), and the HUD scale to 100, the radar beam should be pointing at the target, and hopefully it will show half way up your hud. Cheers.
steve65 Posted December 2, 2014 Author Posted December 2, 2014 Thank you very much Weta43 that information is very helpful. Definitly a different process than western type radar and is definitly going to take some pratice to master.so how do you estimate the range to target to set that number at the bottom of the HUD.do you use GCI or AWACS or is there some other procedure you can use to get that number.:joystick:
Weta43 Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 (edited) If you have GCI/EWR/AWACs, that's the place to get it (that's the way the planes were designed to be used) - at work, so can't write screeds, but have a look in the manual at how the scan and gymbals work & it should make sense - you can still cover / scan the entire scanable volume regardless of where it's set, just the information displayed won't be as useful if you have it set too close, and it will take longer to scan if you have it too far away. Hadwell Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 (edited) yeah just set up a axis on your stick or a throttle quadrant or something for vertical scan, and one for radar range, and you're good to go. it's like analog battleship(the board game) in 3D, you can set it to scan any point in the radars limits, it automatically scans left to right, so you only need to scan up and down and in and out.
