Track Ir assignment

I'm having some trouble with TiR in the 109 kurfurst module. Some missions it works fine others it is not working although both lights are lit on the camera.

 

My question is how do I make sure track ir is assigned to a specific module?

I don't have it assigned to any module and it works for all of them. I will state that I do not own the 109.

I find when it's temperamental it's due to distance or calibration.
