julian265 Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Have you ever lost elevator/rudder/aileron controls due to damage to linkages (not over-speed) in the P-51, 190, or 109? I don't think I have, which makes me wonder if it is possible in DCS, or just unlikely.
flyco Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I've knocked a few P-51 ailerons off on landing. I've also shot off a Fw 190 aileron, and it never seemed to affect his roll rate!
PLP Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I lost elevator authority in a dogfight recently, which made me promptly invest in real estate not long thereafter, more specifically I bought the farm. Edit: Was flying the Dora [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
julian265 Posted December 18, 2014 Author Posted December 18, 2014 Good to know, thx. PLP, are you sure you didn't just lose both elevators, as distinct from having cables cut etc?
Zabuzard Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I slightly touched a watchtower of the enemy some time ago and lost my left aileron due to that. Was a funny 30min flight back home not to mention the landing^^
PLP Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Good to know, thx. PLP, are you sure you didn't just lose both elevators, as distinct from having cables cut etc? I'm not 100% sure, but I think it still responded a bit, just not enough to pull up in time. I had one of the two surfaces blown off if I recall correctly. The point is this does not happen vs. AI because the AI always aims straight for the center of the plane I guess. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
313_Nevo Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 you know, there is always ASM mentioned, PFM mentioned, but never the DM.. keeps me wondering..
msalama Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 keeps me wondering.. To my knowledge ED are aware of the visual and systemic DM problems, and have acnowledged there's a need to improve them in the long run. That said, the implementation of control surface loss has always been present in the Mustang DM; I remember losing an aileron on a strafing run soon after the bird first came out and that definitely affected the roll rate as well... julian265 Posted December 20, 2014 Author Posted December 20, 2014 So far I have, and no one else has mentioned experiences of losing control cables (that is, still having all control surfaces attached, but no control over them). Losing the whole surface is one thing, but I'm under the impression that you can't currently damage the control mechanisms. This sort of damage used to be fairly common in another sim, which is not to say that it was correct or not, however I'd like to know whether it's even possible in DCS P-51/190/109 at the moment, or will be in the future.
msalama Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 ...or will be in the future. That's a good question. In this other sim you mention you lost your control links/cables all too frequently IMO - been there & done that too ;) - but as it comes to DCS, I've no clue if it's currently modelled at all. Anyone know? The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
