Pilotasso Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 (edited) gave myself a few Christmas presents. I was hoping to wait for the next -E variant of the intel CPU's, but looking at the disappointing Broadwell specs I decided to scrap that plan. Skylake -E is still well over 18 months away (at least). My GTX570 1.38GB was already showing its age and had insufficient mem to run star citizen, strggling to run MechWarrior maxed out, and of course anticipating EDGE. My vertex 3 240GB was nearly full. 8GB is just "enough" these days. So....I decided to keep my CPU (2500K@ 4.5GHz) as the CPU upgrade options these days are mediocre at best. Purchases: 16GB SKILL Ripjaws 2X8GB CL10-10-10-30 Gigabyte G1 (GTX970 with 4GB) SAMSUNG 840 EVO 240GB My previous RAM was 8-7-8-24 so I lost a bit of speed there to save money. But hope to more than compensate with the rest. :) Now I gonna give it a spin. :) Edited December 18, 2014 by Pilotasso .

But hope to more than compensate with the rest. :) Now I gonna gibe it a spin. :) Good choices on the GPU and SSD. What was the old RAMs frequency and the new frequency? Chances are the new stuff is actually faster, CAS and timings scale with frequency. Also, I'd hardly call the 4790K CPUs "mediocre at best". Shaman Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 (edited) Good stuff, good choice on memory brand too!:robot: Would you add me to your friendlist in MWO? "shamandgg" I am still running maxed out MWO, no hick ups yet. Made upgrade to my flight PC too. It has been like 3.5years running now this setup at 4.4GHz+ OC settings! Amazing. Still completely stable fully loaded. Best build I have ever made! Just upgraded to 16GB RAM, I was lucky to find exactly same memory bones to fill up two free slots. Didn't even need to adjust anything, all powered up beautifully with same high OC settings. THX, :) both kits were 1600MHZ, but the old kit was 1.65V while the new is 1.5V and had different timings. Couldn't find a match at the local stores. The CPU isn't mediocre, it wont yeld much performance for the money compared to what I got. Edited December 18, 2014 by Pilotasso .

galagamo Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Congratulations on the upgrade! it should keep you for a couple of 2 or 3 years at least. Are you in the states? If so would you be interested in selling that GTX570? I only ask because Ive been perusing the web lately for a used GPU for my old box also need a good PSU but I am on a budget. Couldn't find a match at the local stores. I would've went with a faster option but not a deal breaker either way. Enjoy the new build. I just started the one from my sig last night, will be finishing it after work tomorrow. Pretty pumped,it's gonna be a beast. Pilotasso Posted December 22, 2014 Author Posted December 22, 2014 Well I gave the new GFX a spin, and I am really impressed. :) My venerable GTX 570 looked half the card as this one. Much MUCH better frame rates and noticed also less choppiness. I guess 1.3 GB these days aren't enough anymore! .
