Arcto10 Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Hey, I own a track IR 5 (and used to have a pro clip.....but there is nothing 'pro' about the build quality of them, hence why I am here!). So the pro-clip broke beyond repair and I lost the hat clip (3 reflective strips) ages ago. I do not want (Ok, cannot afford :P) a new pro-clip right now. What can I do? I don't have time to make an IR LED based thing at the moment so what do I need to emulate the Hat device? Is it just reflective tape? Just for reference, this is the hat clip http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/02-products/0-resources-products/TrackClip-black-isoRight.jpg
cichlidfan Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 (edited) Good reflective tape will work at least as good as what they used on the hat clip. Combine that with a cap and coat hanger should get you back in business. There is a small possibility that I may have a hat clip laying around somewhere that I don't need, if that might help. EDIT: If you are making your own, I have always thought that small reflective half-spheres would be much better than the horizontal surfaces used in the hat clip. xxJohnxx Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Yeah anything reflective should do. You might give tinfoil a try. However, as far as I know the positions and distances between the three reflectors are important, so you might want to look for accurate measurements before you start building yourself a replacement. I don't have mine around, else I could provide you with the necessary information. Maybe someone else can do that though. I am living about 3000 miles away from you so the cost of postage for you would be silly, but I do appreciate the offer! If you could possibly measure the space between the sensors that would be great. Something like Space between inner edge of bottom 2. Height of top sensor to bottom. Depth of top sensor to bottom. (and the depth from top one to bottom one) If that makes sense! Edited December 29, 2014 by Arcto10 The example model I made did not keep my spacing so got messed up!
cichlidfan Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 I just did a quick search to see if anyone had posted the measurements, and only found one semi useful link. A buddy of mine tossed me the 3-reflector hat clip that came with his TrackIR, since he uses the LED gadget that also came in the box. I have been getting great results with the clip and Free-Track, so I thought I would put down the model dimension specifications that I have been using. Seems like most TrackIR users will prefer the LEDs, so other folks may come upon an orphan hat clip too. For any that do, here is what I use: In the Free-Track GUI, from left to right-- [20] [37] [15] Or, facing the clip, that is-- height (axis y) [20] width (axis x) [15] (from the central reflector to either side one) depth (axis z) [37] I rather doubt those values are the best of all possible, so if any other folks care to share their own findings, perhaps we can make them better for any who come later. http://free-track.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=706 I will look for it this afternoon. I either stored them with a broken Proclip or I threw them away, not sure which. ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Arcto10 Posted December 29, 2014 Author Posted December 29, 2014 I tried to rep you but it seems that I rep'd you at some point previous and it will not let me :) I am gonna take a piece of a reflective hi-vis jacket and mess around with that and a baseball cap. I will update here as soon as I have any results. Unfortunately that will probably not be today (as I have to try and fix a vacuum cleaner....I live an exciting life :P)
cichlidfan Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 (edited) Found one. I measure 68mm, center to center, for the front reflectors, with the rear reflector (centered) 210mm behind and 38mm above. Good luck with the vacuum. Arcto10 Posted December 29, 2014 Author Posted December 29, 2014 It'll be harder than the reflector I would imagine :) Thank you again! 1
