Swordfish Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 So im playing Oil war and have to take out some rocket arty. I get the the area, I recon, marking all the targets using the datalink and they show up on the abris. I think go through the pain in the ass of resetting my skhval and weapons and send all of the targets to my wingman. My idea is, I take out all the AA and get him to attack the rockets arty. I tell him to engage data link targets. "unable" I select the target button (im using the square one) and him on the datalink. Send target. Order to engage using option one. "roger" Sinks to 4m AGL and just sits there. Doing nothing. Give order again. Nothing. Try leaving data-link option highlighted. Nothing. Try all engage comms options, same thing unless I pick the 3rd one (f3) which then freezes the game. Im I doing something wrong with the data link? I've tried following the manual. Same as above. Datalink training mission works. Sometimes, occasionally sinks the 4m agl and sits there. Any ideas?
msalama Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 The Oil War is such an old campaign that it may well have problems running on any recent DCS version. But as a kludgy workaround, try opening the problematic mission(s) in the editor and resave them. May work, may not. Sorry for being unable to assist you any further - haven't played the Oil War in ages and thus can't remember anything about it... The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
Swordfish Posted January 16, 2015 Author Posted January 16, 2015 I was starting to think it could be something around that after playing the Mig21. I will give it a try.. Thanks for the idea
Swordfish Posted January 18, 2015 Author Posted January 18, 2015 Still having the same issue. Resaved the mission, send targets. Tell to engage, hovers 4m off the ground. Tell to engage again, mission crashes, so cannot even get a track.
King_Hrothgar Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 The Ka-50 AI is remarkably bad in general, it has nothing to do with the campaigns. The limitations of the Ka-50 AI are as follows: 1) They can only see non-SAM targets from less than 5km away. 2) They will always attack long range SAMs first, even if doing so is suicidal and those SAMs are far away and not a threat at their current location. These are the exception to their 5km visibility ring, they act as if they have an RWR. 3) They will typically attack your target if ordered, but will attempt to follow waypoints to do it. This is often impossible due to terrain and so they will sit idle instead of attacking. 4) Even though the Vikhr can reliably hit stuff at 8km, they will normally close to 4-5km to fire. 5) Rockets have the highest priority in their weapon selection, they will use them in preference to missiles. Always remove their rockets in the mission planner. 6) Like all other AI units, they see everything within their visibility ring, including stuff they have no LoS on. 7) They are really, really good at killing manpads and fixed AAA hiding in towns that are impossible for the player to see due to LoS from trees.
Swordfish Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 Seemed to solve the problem by editing the mission and actually changing something, not just re-saving it, so I just change my paint scheme. The Datalink works again so far. as for point 5 above, my wingmen always use Vik's first on anything but infantry. Otherwise they are fair points!
