Flagrum Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 The function and use of the AFN2 differs greatly between the two aircraft. I think, there is at least one bug involved and furthermore, I wonder if the other aspects could and should be somewhat consolidated. Before I post this in the bug forums and/or as a feature request, I want to hear your opinions before - as I am not really an expert in these topics ... A Bug! Bf190 manual: The vertical bar indicates the deviation from direction of the beacon.Fw190 manual: The vertical bar indicates the general direction of the homing beaconWhen flying towards the beacon, the AFN-2 in both aircraft exhibit the behaviour as described in their respective manuals. But although it is technically the same device, they work differently: the vertical bar of the Fw190 AFN-2 indicates the position of the beacon in relation to the aircraft (=center), but in the Bf190 it indicates the aircraft in relation to the beacon (=center). Afaik the vert. bar should function as a deviation indicator and thus the AFN-2 in the Fw190 is working incorrectly. Feature "Lorenz Approach" Bf190 manual: The frequency of AFN2 can be adjusted in the Mission Editor to desired ILS beaconThe marker lamp in the center of indicator will light when fly over airdrome's near and far NDBs.It seems, that the AFN2 implementation in the Bf190 shall resemble the function of the Lorenz approach system. In the ME at the radio tab, there is a separate entry field for the AFN2 fequency where you actually can enter a fequency outside the regular range of the FuG16. This allows the use the currently available ILS frequencies. My thoughts and questions on this: a) The vertical bar is very twitchy - almost digital. I could not manage to keep it centered. It either jumps completely to the left or completely to the right. Pilot error? Bug? b) Is it correct that there is no audio indication? I read here that you should hear different signals if you are too much to the left or too much to the right - and a steady signal if you are exact on course. Different capabilities Fw190 vs Bf109 The Fw190 AFN-2 allows seemingly only simple homing operations. As the AFN-2 is slaved to the FuG16 in the Fw190, it perhaps does not have the capability to be used for the Lorenz Approach? Or would you just need to have one of the 4 channels to be set up for the appropriate Lorenz beacon? How was it in reality? If the latter is the case, then I would like to see this implemented in DCS! The Bf109 AFN-2 allows seemingly only the Lorenz Approach operation. Is that realistic? Or shouldn't we have also the ability for simple homing operations? I tested this (ME: AFN2 feq. set to a custom NDB: result: no indication at all!). Furthermore, is it realistic that the AFN-2 can not be slaved directly to the FuG16 and thus can use only one single, fixed frequency?
ED Team NineLine Posted January 20, 2015 ED Team Posted January 20, 2015 (edited) The wont be able to be implemented fully until they create the proper beacon system in the sim. I hope this will be added for the Normandy map. As for how its working right now, the differences between the 109 and 190 seem odd, I've been meaning to ask if we can get them to match each other like other things, for example I am hoping they add the option for the MW50 tank for the 190 like we have on the 109. PS: There are some changes that havent come through yet I think as well for the 109. Edited January 20, 2015 by NineLine Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
