Vedexent Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Vedexant, Make sure the screw at the back of the joystick is tight. I was having the same problems until I noticed it was loose and not allowing the pinky trigger to make good contact. Thanks! I'll look into it. Any suggestions for securing the plugs into the blocks? Also, thanks to the people who brought up silicone greasing - I've noticed a bit of sticking recently, both in the flight stick and pedals (I guess never being serviced in 2-3 years will do that).

algerad3 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 SilentGun, That is a tough spot to be in right now. The question you have is what is the best way to upgrade without spending too much cash and is it worth it. Yes, it is worth it. Now the question is what do you really want from your Hotas? X-52 pro gives you more buttons and rotaries as well as a display for information( A side project I am currently working on updating ). You also get dual stage triggers, rudder control and a "clutch" button that allows you to set up assorted key presses. You also have a mode switch which allows you to assign buttons which are mode dependent. At the price the x-52 pro is currently at, you might want to look at the X-55. More buttons, dual throttle and mode switch(just like the x-52pro) as well as rudder control (someone correct me if I am wrong on this, I am getting this info from Saitek site.) If you can spring for a Hog , save up and do it , but from the sounds of it , you want improvements now. I feel that either one of the two above will give you want you seek. Even though I have x-52 pro and X-65 I still use both( only because I could get both do I have both and I realize not everyone is as fortunate.) I am still so tempted on the X-55 .....It's a giggle and laughs thing i guess. Just take the time and review what every one has to say with a grain of salt(including me) and peruse the manufactures web sites and see what is best for your needs/finances. This purchase is for you ; not me or anyone else. We already made our purchases and can only offer words of experience. Just two more cents from me. 313_Nevo Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 1 saitek -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- bottom line: I never owned Saitek (I use MS Precision 2, old but reliable), but I honestly think that for that money ($200) you would not get more from any other system. @ripping go through these forums and simhq for example and you will find lot of people also ripping on TM Warthog. @greasing go through these forums and simhq for example and you will find lot of people who re-greased also the TM Warthog. In one case "mine had small metal splinters floating in the grease".
King_Hrothgar Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 1 Saitek, either X-52 regular or X-55. X-55 is the better HOTAS.
Tumbleweed Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I went from an Extreme 3D to an X-52 Pro and I wasn't dissapointed at all. I too had read of people ripping the X-52 and the quality of Saitek products but in complete honesty, I can't fault mine in any way shape or form. While the Extreme 3D is a great entry level stick, the X-52 takes it to another level. No more fumbling for keyboard shortcuts at all in some aircraft and a LOT less in others. Nice fluid movements give precise control of aircraft. No jerking etc. When I got my X-52 Pro I was heavily into flying the stang at the time and my poor X-52 Pro was underused due to having more buttons and switches on my stick than there were systems in the plane to map LOL. It sure is a hell of a stick. Wait til you get it (if you go for an X52) and see the size of just the joystick compared to the Extreme 3D - I was like OMG WTF it's huge but actually it isn't. It's just right and feels right. Four things I've done have massively improved my flying to the point where I'm confident enough to buzz close round other aircraft like a loon without any collisions and to fly close formation with delicate inputs. 1. Upgrade to X-52 Pro. 2. PS3Eye for Headtracking (nice n smooth) 3. Upgrade to a GTX 970 - hardly any lag or FPS drops now 4. 32" Monitor upgrade. - OMG everything is HUGE and I can see distant aircraft! It's like flying a completely different sim. When I pull in close to another aircraft in flight now it's like WOW and most importantly I've got the precise control over the aircraft I need thanks to the X-52. I can HIGHLY recommend the X-52 pro stick. Their software on the otherhand e.g. the control panel / config software for the X-52 sucks. Fortunately, it's not compulsary to use it. I don't. I just map my buttons and axis etc directly in DCS. Marks out of 10 for the X-52... I give it a 8.5 cos there's still some tweaks that could improve it but nothing major that hinders its performance or anything. My Hangar: P-51D Mustang - KA-50 Blackshark - A-10C Warthog - F-86F Sabre - FC3 - Combined Arms - UH-1H My Flying Adventures: www.dcs-pilot.com :pilotfly:
SilentGun Posted January 29, 2015 Author Posted January 29, 2015 Saitek X-52 Pro Worth my time and money? I'm so happy that people are giving me honest reviews! But now that I'm looking more into it the TM warthog is looking like a no, main reason is because I play other flight sims/games and the warthog is (from what I've herd) a very stiff stick. So my options now are the saitek x-52 or the x-55 because there that same price. So X-52 pro say: Pro And the X-55 say: Rhino Link to my Imgur screenshots and motto http://imgur.com/a/Gt7dF One day in DCS... Vipers will fly along side Tomcats... Viersbovsky Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 X-55 supposedly has a pretty bad button layout - you have to really strain your fingers to push some buttons without pushing others accidentally. I have an X-52pro, it is a nice stick, perfect for intermediate pilots. Normal or Pro... Pro just looks waaaaay nicer, honestly. Callsign "Lion"
King_Hrothgar Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Rhino I have both the X-52 Pro (8+ years old now) and the X-55. The X-52 Pro is more comfortable, it's superbly laid out and has an adjustable hand rest. But the X-55 has a ton more buttons. Ultimately, for me the number of buttons on the rhino beat the X-52's comfort.
SilentGun Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 Saitek X-52 Pro Worth my time and money? So I took all of your considerations and have finally come to a conclusion. I got the x-52!! But one of my friends donated it to me so thank you Buckethead!! After using the x-52 for about a week and a half now I just love it, it's so precise and easy to move. I do experience the pressure jerking (sticktion) but it's bearable. So thank you all again for the honest reviews, and thanks again Bucket for donating it to me!! :) (now I can save up for trackIR ;) ) Link to my Imgur screenshots and motto http://imgur.com/a/Gt7dF One day in DCS... King_Hrothgar Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Grab a little tub of silicone grease to lube the shaft and plate, it won't stick then. You can get it at any hardware store in the plumbing or electrical section. It costs next to nothing. Also, virtually all joysticks will stick like that unless you lube them. So not a problem limited to a 2nd hand X-52. Anyways, glad you're enjoying it. :)
