I'm tampering with a little mission for some SEAD practice for up to 4 players (the extent of my local area player DCS player group), and I've noticed that no matter what I do, the SAM sites I put out on the map fail to fire on player aircraft. They ping me on the radar, but even at low-level fly-by they do not launch.

The batteries are all the same: 1 Kub STR 9S91 and 4 Kub KN 2P25.

What am I doing wrong?

Do you have place your units in one group or as single units on the map?

A SAM side need to be one group to act properly!

That explains it then. I placed them all as single units. Thank you, I'll attend to the issue at once.

Still, I have 1 radar and 4 launchers. It seems I can only arrange them as 2 groups, 1 radar group and 1 launcher group. Will it still work?

They all need to be in the same group to work under regular conditions. There is a script to coordinate SAM activity across the battlefield, but I don't use it and after a brief search I did not find it -- I thought the thread was in Mission Builders Corner.

You can set the ability of the SAM group, too. If you set it to Excellent, prepare for a tough battle.

Hey Boomstick.

For longer range SAM groups, you can find a lot preconfigured if you click on the "templates" icon in the ME. Just select what kind of site you want from the drop down menu and plop it on the map. You can also click and drag the entire group as a single unit just like with manually placed groups.

There are several short range IR SAMs that will function as single units for target practice as well but can be pretty nasty if you get close.

An SA-19 set on excellent is very happy to make problems for low flying aircraft.

SA-13s will also work solo, and SA-9s. Probably more but that's the extent of SAM exploration I've done so far haha.

Hope this helps!

Bear in mind that there are maximum distances between the radar and the launchers over which the system won't function. Try grouping the launchers and radar unit with less than 500m separation between each individual component.
