Notable mission failure

I've got my fair share of being shot down brutally in my beautiful Ka-50. Seriously: Who would fire at such a beautiful heli???

 

My most notable one was in a campaign. SU25 overhead, but I didn't heed them much until my wingman got shot down by them. I sped back to our air defense cover but I had one on my tail. I neared our line and levelled my flight.

 

Suddenly the camera jumped to external view. My controls were locked. WTF?

The helo was hovering above our tanks - nothing worked. Then I spotted the damage, I had been hit by cannon fire. It must have killed the pilot.

 

Fun thing was that the helo was still hovering. It was drifting very slowly towards enemy lines, with a dead pilot in the seat.

I'v experienced the same, only it was 105mm from T-55, and all I could see externally was missing windshield window. Damage model is quite lacking, something blows of part of helicopter (stub wing, tail), and I barely notice, because all I can hear is silent thud. Also there is very little disturbance caused by hit alone.

Heh I was court martialed from a campaign mishap.

 

I did not even know that was possible until it happened..I was taking off from a airbase for a escort mission and made a wrong turn during my climb out/transition, I saw my wing man flying directly at my 12 o'clock assumed he was flying the correct way. I noticed the anti collision lights were backwards too late... BANG. Dead.

 

Anyways my wingman survived and ejected, I was court martialed in death.
